TRAMLINES MOVES TO HILLSBOROUGH SHEFFIELD’S popular inner-city music festival, Tramlines, is to move the main stage to Hillsborough Park next year. Organisers have been granted an event licence for the park in what will be the festival’s 10th anniversary. It launched in 2009 as a free festival by Tramlines Events in conjunction with Sheffield Council, with Tramline Events taking full control the following year. Count of Ten, who also run Y Not and Truck Festival, acquired a 38% stake in 2013. This move saw the festival introduce a cost for some venues but still kept a number of venues free of charge. This year, Tramlines took place at the Ponderosa, Devonshire Green and Endcliffe Park. Last year’s headliners were The Libertines, Primal Scream and All Saints. Now, in yet another big change, the main stage will be moved to Hillsborough Park. Although this makes it easier for many to reach, the citycentre aspect of the festival will be diminished. “I’m delighted that our licence for Hillsborough Park has been approved,” said festival director Sarah Nulty. “We can now put our plans into practice as we celebrate the 10th an-
niversary with the biggest and best Tramlines to date. The first line-up announcement will be early next year so please keep an eye on our website and social media channels.” Nulty was keen to stress that the centre wouldn’t be abandoned saying, “The festival is working closely with Sheffield City Council on the city-centre proposition to ensure that it remains a core part of the weekend, and more information on those plans will be released in the new year.” The new venue at Hillsborough Park will accommodate 40,000 people. Sheffield City Council approved the licence for Hillsborough Park and said the event is likely to attract 100,000 to the city again. Richard Eyre, head of major events, said: “The main festival will be at Hillsborough, but we’re still 100% committed to keeping the fringe festival in the city centre, free for Sheffield people and businesses. “People can still dip in and out of the free city centre events.” The council said the city centre offering is likely to include a buskers stage near the station, food festival at the Peace Gardens, and world music community stage at Devonshire Green.
