BYPASS REOPENS AFTER MAJOR FLOODING Armed robbery in Ecclesfield POLICE are investigating following reports of an armed robbery at a shop in Ecclesfield on Sunday January 21. Just before 5.50pm a man entered the Co-Op, in High Street, carrying what is described as a machete. He made demands for money before leaving via the back entrance of the shop with a quantity of cash, made up mainly of coins. He left the area heading towards Barnsley Road in a silver Vauxhall Corsa, thought to have been stolen the previous evening from the High Green area. No one was injured during the incident but staff members were understandably left incredibly shaken. The man is described as wearing a blue ski mask/ balaclava, a blue hoodie, grey jogging bottoms and carrying a Sainsbury’s bag. The car was later found burnt out in the Shiregreen area and enquiries remain ongoing to identify the offender.
The A616 Stocksbridge Bypass has re-opened with traffic management measures in place after being closed for almost a week due to flooding. These photos from Highways England show the extent of the problem which saw the road closed between the A6102 and the A628.
Officers are asking anyone with information to come forward and for businesses to be mindful of anyone trying to change large quantities of coins. Anyone with information is asked to call either 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting incident number 756 of 21 January 2018.
