Bothactiveandpassiveformsof gardeningcanmakeadifferencetoyour mentalandphysicalhealth,according tohorticulturaltherapistToniSalter. ‘Gardeningactivitieslikedigging, shovellingandplayingwithsoilcan provideinstantgratificationforyour mind,’saysToni. ‘Focusingonanactivitylikethiscan beagreatdistractionfrom feelingsof anxietyandcanproducearewarding endresult.Ithelpsto“stayinthe moment”andappreciatetheprocess.’ Toniexplainsthatevenmorepassive activitieslikepottingupseedlingsor sowingseedscanbeaform ofrelaxation, especiallyifthegardenerisgiven choice overwhatisbeingplanted.
