HER $116 MILLION LIFE! KATE HUDSON How the mum-of-three finds balance while building her own successful personal brand E very day is a juggling act for Kate Hudson. ‘She’s up early working out, getting the kids ready for school and going to work, and she still finds the energy to go to dinner with girlfriends or cook dinner for the family when she gets home,’ a source tells of the busy actress, author and fitness guru, who has two clothing lines, a new podcastandher very own brandofvodka. Phew! And the 40-year-old has no plans of slowing down anytime soon. ‘She’s building an empire, and still singing and acting,’ says the source. ‘She wants todo it all.’ That’s an impressive goal, especially with three kids – 14-month-old Rani Rose (with musician Danny Fujikawa) and sons Ryder, 16 (with ex Chris Robinson), and Bingham, eight (with ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy) and another said to be on the way. ‘She’s balancing a lot of different things,’ says the source, ‘but she’s very content and feels fulfilled.’ HELPING HANDS Of course, she couldn’t tackle all her to-dos alone. According to the source, Danny, 33, is a huge support. ‘He’s a very hands-on dad and a true partner, and they’re a great team.’

A nanny takes care of Rani when Kate’s on the clock – she’s also an ambassador for Weight Watchers and has two movies in post-production – and the source says both boys spend ample time with their dads. ‘Kate’s good at co-parenting and encourages Ryder and Bingham to have great relationships with their fathers.’ She also does her best to keep her work and family lives separate. ‘If I come in 9 to 5, do all my work and shut off my phone, I can have a balanced life,’ Kate’s previously said. ‘I try not to let work spill into time with the kids.’ FAMILY FIRST Ultimately, Kate’s children and boyfriend are her top priority. ‘Family’s most important and what she’s really all about,’ says the source.

On weekends, she disconnects from work to focus on being a mum. ‘She loves to cook and chill out and have family and friends over. Her door’s always open, and she loves throwing theme parties and having her nieces and nephews over for sleepovers,’ adds the insider. ‘They’re all one big, happy family.’ MUM GOALS ‘I never thought my life would look like that, but it is what it is,’ Kate says of sharing three kids with three men. ‘All I care about is happy kids, and we all make that the priority.’ Good for you, hon!

ALEXA CHUNG SPOTLIGHT

Calling all fashionistas! The design guru has brought her fabulousness to Netflix S he’s one of the most stylish women in the world and a successful fashion designer in her own right. But now uber-cool Alexa Chung, along with Queer Eye’s Tan France, is on the hunt for the next big thing in fashion – and we can’t get enough of her new show Next in Fashion or the looks Alexa is serving up.

As she goes on the hunt for fashion’s newest star, Alexa, 36, tells OK! about her sense of style, being her own boss, the stars she’d love to makeover, and how we’re all her inspiration when it comes to looking and feeling good. Yep, even grandads… Alexa and Tan launched their new show on January 29

Advice and support from two of the most well-known faces in the biz

FASHION FORWARD Next in Fashion follows 18 daring designers who’ve worked for the likes of Stella McCartney, but aren’t household names. The winner receives $375,000 from Net-a-Porter and the chance to have their first collection showcased on their website.

How did you first become involved with Next in Fashion? I was approached quite late in the day, but I immediately said yes! I have my own fashion line in London, so it took a bit of manoeuvring. I spoke to my CEO and said, ‘I have been offered this thing…’ He literally flipped the table and was like, ‘What? Netflix! Yeah, we’re doing it!’

What was it like being paired with Queer Eye’s fashion maven, Tan, as judges on the show? Had you encountered each other before? It’s a leap of faith when they put you together, but we’d already met very briefly at a party. I’m a huge fan of Tan anyway, so I

ROLE MODEL THE FORMER RUNWAY STAR STARTED HER OWN BUSINESS ‘I started my own brand [in 2016]… and for some reason, naively, I thought it would be quite easy,’ Alexa laughed at the 2019 Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards. Her intention is to design clothes that women want to wear, which are inspired by her own style and described as ‘combining Parisian chic with a New York edge’. Nailed it!

Do you think the show accurately reflects diversity within the fashion industry? My experience of working in fashion and also setting up my own company is that it’s quite typical that you’ll have an office full of people from all over the world. In my office, there is only about five British people – everyone else is from somewhere else. So this show is less a gimmick and more an actual reflection of what goes on in the industry.

I AM COMPELLED TO OBSERVE FASHION CONSTANTLY… I’M OBSESSED!

emotional.Ithinkthechallengeisn’t necessarily creating things. I have fun in the office and it’s great, but the challenge is communication, learning to be diplomatic and taking care of other people’s feelings. That is the main thing about business, I think.

What’s the best part of having your own fashion label? Free clothes! Free clothes that look exactly as I want them to look – that was always the idea. I still feel spoilt, actually. I did an order of my own collection one time, and it arrived when I was at my mum’s house because there was a delivery mess up, so these nine boxes of clothes were there. I started unwrapping them in front of my sister and my mum, and I felt so guilty about being given something that I’d made!

Where do you get your ideas for new styles? Does inspiration just strike? I am compelled to observe fashion constantly, not necessarily even fashion per se but clothes. I’m obsessed! I do a stocktake of what people are wearing. Alex Turner

I’m always inspired by looking at strangers and seeing what they have on. It’s not necessarily a 27-year-old woman looking fabulous – often it’s grandpas, because stylishness can come from anything or anyone.

You’ve worked hard and built a successful career, but is there anything else you really want to get out of life? Everything! ENTERTAINMENT

Fanshavesufferedthrough an unusually long break between seasons four and five of Outlander, with #droughtlander trending on Twitter during the show’s absence from our TV screens. Thankfully, the new season is finally here. And while we’re excited to sink our teeth into the time-travelling epic romance once more, the show’s easy-onthe-eye star Sam Heughan has admitted he rather enjoyed his filming break.

‘For me, personally, it’s been fantastic. It opened a lot of opportunities,’ the 39-year-old Scottish actor shared of his time off. ‘I shot two movies in the hiatus last year. I actually think it’s necessary for me as an actor to go and do something different. I’ve been doing Outlander for six years now and so it’s good to go and stretch myself and try new things.’

Be that as it may, we’ve been waiting with bated breath to see what’s in store for Sam’s character Jamie and his true love Claire (played by Caitriona Balfe). At the end of last season, the governor of North Carolina orders Jamie to hunt down a rebellious group led by his good friend and godfather, Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix). It’s obvious that Jamie has some difficult decisions ahead of him, and Sam says it’s going to test his character’s loyalties like never before.

‘The greater objective of the season is that they know this war is coming, and Jamie’s on the wrong side,’ says Sam. ‘He’s doing it because he needs to provide for people. So he’s really stuck between a rock and a historic hard place.’ A LOVE ACROSS T Outlander returns After a very long wait, the series is back – here’s what you need to know about season five. Swoon alert!

RIHANNA celebrates her 32nd birthday on February 20

WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE WEEK AHEAD HOLDS? TURN TO THE STARS TO FIND OUT!

PISCES FEB 19-MAR 20 Where would Adele be without her team of killer producers? This week is all about collabs, thanks to action planet Mars in your astro zone of netw orking. If you’re feeling more overworked than a royal nanny, look at the people around you and delegate. This zone also rules tech, so maps, apps and virtual services could save you time (and sanity).

GEMINI MAY 21-JUN 21 If you’ve got more-thanfriendly feelings for a friend, the planets are giving you an amber light. Love planet V enus is in your zone of social connections, which could prompt romances between ‘platonic’ friends (but tread carefully). Couples: swapping your usual Netflix and chill nights for social events will get you out of a rut.

ARIES MAR 21-APR 19 There’s something different about you, Aries… wait, are you having a *feeling*? We jest, but this weekend, you may experience a shift from your normal peppy MO into a more emotional, softer vibe. Don’t fight it. This is a good time for doing something creative or connecting with your favourite humans on a more compassionate level.

TAURUS APR 20-MAY 20 Say hello to your old friend fear. Yep, you’re going to have to get your Brené Brown on and draw on deep reserves of courage. Go-getter Mars in your astro zone of risk-taking is pushing you to take a leap of faith… but being one of the more comfort-zone-happy signs, you might not be fully on board. Remember fear isn’t a reason to abandon your plans.

CANCER JUN 22-JUL 22 Here’s a ’Gram-able quote that might resonate: if everyone else loves you, you probably don’t. This week, setting boundaries will be your superpower –but you’ll have to let go of your fear of ruffling feathers. This Sunday, relationships planet Venus and big-energy planet Jupiter are clashing, so if you’ve been going along with what others want, step up and state your needs.

LEO JUL 23-AUG 22 Sure, your sign is ruled by the sun, but that doesn’t mean everyone wants to revolve around you. Stressy Mars is in your astro zone of intimacy, which puts control issues right up in your grill. If your key relationships are full of tension, being attached to your version of events won’t help. Meanwhile, if you’re working hard, be careful not to sacrifice your wellbeing.

VIRGO AUG 23-SEPT 22 Here comes all your emotional baggage. On Sunday, love planet Venus in your astro zone of history does fisticuffs with independent Jupiter. Watch out for the influence of unhealthy relationship behaviours. Instead of overreacting, give yourself time to reflect on what’s going on underneath. Lean on a trusted friend or expert if you need an outsider’s perspective.

LIBRA SEPT 23-OCT 23 If you look up ‘romantic’ in the Macquarie Dictionary, you’ll probably find a pic of your own face. With love planet Venus in your zone of relationships, that energy is hell big. Singles could attract someone with long-term potential or coupled-up Libras could get a little romantic. And if you’re in a love situation that isn’t the real deal, you may have a decision to make…

SCORPIO OCT 24-NOV 21 Focus, Scorpio! Intense Mars is burning up your astro zone of brainpower and ideas, and the result could be o ver-stimulation at a Times Square level. Take the wheel of the out-of-control car that is your brain, and direct your focus and energy towards what’s important. Meanwhile, Monday’s new moon is a sweet time to set love goals.

SAGITTARIUS NOV 22-DEC 21 On Friday, radical changemaker planet Uranus hooks up with pushy Mars in your astro zone of work and self-esteem, pouring petrol on your wildest plans. From overhauling work processes to overthrowing the patriarchy, nothing is off the table. Love-wise, if you’re disheartened about your romantic future, Venus in your romantic zone will have you feeling the love vibes again.

TEXT BY TRUDIE M C CONNOCHIE CAPRICORN DEC 22-JAN 19 It’s getting hot in here! Erotic Mars is turning up the passion in your sign, helping you bring sexy back (yaaas!). Couples could spice up their sexual repertoire while singles may suddenly get a lot of attention. Meanwhile, Monday’s new moon brings a kinda magic to your goals and plans. Try taking a creative approach to what you’re working on to get momentum.

AQUARIUS JAN 20-FEB 18 It’s nice to be nice, but not when people are taking the piss. Intensifier Mars in your astro zone of compassion could prompt you to give the benefit of the doubt to peeps who don’t deserve it –especially in the romance department. If you’re seeking a LTR, don’t let desire overshadow any red flags. This is also the zone of endings, so some Aquarians might find themselves saying, ‘Bye, Felicia!’

The practical things you can do to help rebuild Australia, one town at a time

There’s not a single Australian who hasn’t had their hearts broken by the horrifi c bushfi res that have swept through our country. The road to rebuild will be lon g but as a nation we will: brick by brick, fence by fence. Bauer Media launched this campaign to help our neighbours in their time of need.

Each week we will shine a spotlight on a town telling our generous readers how they can help, from the best fundraisers to donate to that specifi cally benefi t the locals, to products they can buy from that town or region that support small businesses there. We’ll highlight the farmers who need fencing supplies, the schools which are short of books and pencils, the yoga school that needs mats or how to plan a getaway to the region when the time is right to bolster their local tourism industry.

The Rebuild Our Towns campaign is centred on the fact that practical help doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Our love and thoughts go out to every person, but actions speak louder than words, so join us to make a diff erence and help our heartland heal.

Go to rebuildourtowns.com.au and watch as we move from one town to another over the coming months
