Securing Your Home during the Real Estate Sale Process For homeowners who have recently put their homes on the market, nothing is as frustrating a problem as making sure the house remains secure while you are away from it. This is especially true of homes being sold by members of the military, but even civilian homeowners encounter the issue of securing the home that has been put up for sale while also not currently living in the home. The easiest solution that will ease many homeowners’ fear of having an unauthorized entry into the vacant home is a lock box. This security item, similar to a safe, is capable of safeguarding the desired item in a way that prevents it from being accessed by unauthorized users. What is a lock box? Essentially, it is a small rectangular box, as the name implies, that you can use to store your keys. It is usually about the size of a hand and comes with a variety of security options. A more traditional lock box will have a rolling combination, similar to old-school briefcases. Newer lock boxes, however, have an option of easy to press numerical keys. Some may even be an electronic lock. For real estate purposes, a simple and easily accessibly lock box is usually preferred. The best boxes for your real estate needs can be placed in a variety of places, be it the obvious front door or even somewhere along the side of the house. If you are living elsewhere during the real estate process, then an electronic lock may be something to consider. The added security of the electronic locks is something that can give you, the homeowner, a greater sense of ease while you remain separated from your previous home. In searching for an electronic lock, one thing to look for is some kind of remote access. This makes it easier for you to control who does and does not have access to the contents of the lock box. With some electronic locks, you also have the opportunity to create special, one-time use codes. This is a way to assure yourself that your home remains as secure as possible while you allow multiple people, usually real estate agents and potential buyers, to access and view your home. The potential for security with a lock box is not something that should be overlooked, especially not when there is now affordable access to even more secure electronic locks. In choosing one particular lock box over another, the most important things to consider are the history of the company associated with the lock box and the overall level of customer service that is provided. If some unforeseen circumstance were to happen that made accessing the box more difficult, then having an easily accessible support line on hand would be of great importance.
