Maple Syrup Season MAPLE SUGARING

Feb. 29, Mar. 1, 7, & 8 | 11:30 am-3:30 pm Carlisle Reservation, Visitor Center It may not look or feel like spring, but the late winter is when all the trees are preparing for the change in seasons. Help us celebrate this special time by learning how to take sap from sugar maple trees to turn into maple syrup! We will explore the history and science of Maple Sugaring through hands-on activities geared for all ages. Discover the secrets of maple sugaring by a brief indoor lecture, hiking to the sugar bush and collecting sap with a Naturalist, and visiting the Sugar Shack to see the sap being converted into syrup.

Train rides through a second sugar bush may also be available, weather permitting.

MAPLE COOK-OFF Sat., Mar. 21 | 12-3 pm The North Star Preserve/Henry’s Barn, Oberlin Calling all cooks and maple connoisseurs! We are looking for individuals or teams to prepare maple-inspired dishes and compete against other maple chefs for prizes! Don’t forget - your dish must contain real maple syrup or maple sugar! Entry is limited to 15 chef contestants, first come first serve, and contestants must register in person at the Carlisle Visitor Center to compete. Registration deadline to enter the competition as a chef contestant in this event is March 1.
