OF THE BUCHAREST METROPOLITAN AREA INTERFACE Master final thesis Bucharest Metropolitan Area
36 568 HA In order to identify the peri-urban landscape’s dominant features, a relevant research area was chosen- namely the area located in the northern part of Bucharest between the DN1 highway in West , the Vlăsia- Cociovaliştea mainstream in the North, DN2 at the East and the city’s administrative border in the South. For a better understanding of the component elements, the site in matter has been divided into three areas as a result of the identification of three different but complementary characters: 1. The 1st area- ”the multifunctional suburbia” with prominent urban character 2. The 2nd area- “ Valea Mostiştei “ agricultural park, which represents a semi-rural character 3. The 3rd area- rural area with national heritage elements The strategy for the site’s development over the last 20 years has the purpose of creating a complementary identity for each of the three areas and their relations through a green network and the connection with the city and Snagov- Căldăruşani and Valea Mostiştei area in the South in the future.

WILDLIFE GARDEN FOR ‘AUREL VLAICU’ HOP RESEARCH CENTRE Bachelor final thesis
Aurel Vlaicu, Hunedoara District, Romania
masterplan-15 HA, wildlife garden-1 HA The project approaches different territorial scales, to the detail scale of this wildlife garden. There was elaborated a strategy for the entire settlements system from Geoagiu area in Hunedoara, the Aurel Vlaicu village was chosed to be analysed and some regulations were proposed for a specific area- the proposed hop research centre and the surroundings. Wildlife garden is a detail of this hop research centre masterplan and it was created into a dirrect relation with the forest, having the same theme- biodiversiy. This garden was created in order to get in contact with the wildlife, to understand and to appreciate it.

90 HA The project consisted in rehabilitation of the biggest urban park from Brăila city. The aim was to use some sustanable concepts in order to awake people interest for this green area and which could involve the local community in its maintenance and development. Thematical gardens inside the park are illustrating the three stances of nature which contributed to the concept: - experimental nature- in the research area of wetland habbitats and greenhouses - picturesque nature- flower beds, rockery, visual connections ( thematical paths) - productive nature- small community plots with vegetables, fruits and flowers with educational purpose All those new elements are designed to be integrated into the existing park and to connect the sportive areas from the main entrance with the stadium area in the purpose of creating a multifunctional park for the city.

OLTENIŢA REGIONAL MASTERPLAN
Olteniţa, Călăraşi district, Romania
This project approached the economical and touristic development of this large territory related to the Metropolitan area of Bucharest. The regional masterplan elaboration included an entire documentation and a series of anlalysis that pointed out some dirrections to follow, strenghts but also weaknesses that have to be taken into account. The solution proposes the establishment of a strong settlements structure which contains villages and also the Olteniţa city. The strenghts of each of thissettlements were emphasized and there were developed activities that compensate the lack of industry, tourism or agriculture in some of them. Moreover, the Danube proximity was exploied, there was elaborated a possible transboundary partnership between Olteniţa and Turtucaia (in Bulgaria) regarding tourism.

GARDEN OF SOUND AND REFLECTION International garden festival, Jardines de Metis 2013
Redford gardens, Quebec, Canada
0,02 HA Garden of sound and reflection with its main contemplation purpose is a place where the visitors are surprised as they cross through the garden. The visitors are captivated by the special element- the metallic structure reflection into the mirrors, and as they arrive in the garden’s core they can watch it as a real object and listen to the sound made by the wind blowing through wind chemis. The idea of reflection is sugested by the mirrors which are reflecting the metallic structure and the vegetation. A special mirror is the circular pond which also reflects the metallic structure from behind. This structure was thought as a landmark of the garden, which impresses by its silhouette and by the fact that it becomes active when the wind blows. Moreover, the plants have been chosen in order to bend with every blowing. The garden becomes a place of a set with fixed elements: the water pond, metallic structure and temporary elements- the sound of wind.

KNOWLEDGE- FLOW GARDEN ‘Evoking Memories’, Slant Competition 2013 Elevation Torino, Italy
0,066 HA Masterplan Located in Turin, Italy, the garden reconsiders two different approaches: agricultural small field and the fruit and herbs garden based on the projects work from the Erasmus Programme UPWARD, which me and my teammate attended in different periods of time. The two classrooms where we were working are being transformed in our common memory for an outside ‘clasroom garden’. The garden is located between the two buildings of the Architecture Faculty (Morgari and Valentino Castle) for the usage of students that can enjoy nature and learn by attending classes in small groups outside the faculty. The inspiration for plants , colours, materials came from the project solutions each developed during the workshop: agricultural park and linear park with community gardens and orchard. Therefore the result is a combination of two gardens: agricultural small field and fruits and herbs garden. The garden consists in two rooms represented only by walls (nor roof), each with its own access and connections between them. The windows are wide opend to the green space beside the walls so the garden is also connected with the outside.

Brussels, Belgium
Masterplan
The workshop had the puropse to make students aware of the fastern changes of landscape and of the periphery. For this analysis a study area was proposed: the area containing the periphery of Anderlecht -Brussels and the Flamish Brabant province. Every team had to came up with four scenarios and at the next step to choose one and take it to the level of proposal. The scenario we chosed - Smart Living The technology has improved to the level of being cheap and accessible. At the same time the commuting is becoming expensive so more people (office workers) are able to work at home. Multifunctional sub-urban clusters are developed in the outskirts of the city. Smart-housing.
