journey into the heart of Australia, while

our families at home hope and pray for us. This experience will provide a tremendous opportunity for a high level of staff and student interaction, and hopefully, the chance for us to grow closer as a school community. As students, we ask that our families will be

with us as we embark on the challenge of the coming year. Throughout the year, let us pray that our Father in Heaven will bring thoughts of love and peace into the hearts of each one of us, so that by the end of 1988, the sense of family between us will be a

strong one which will extend well into our futures.

That time they broke their agreement with us. The new road they made, cut through a very sacred place. This is true what I'm telling you. The Caterpillar

EASTER IN BROOME - MARY ROARTY, I.B.V.M. Each year, Christians throughout the world commemorate the Death and Resurrection

of Jesus. In Australia, we recall and celebrate

these events with special love - all of us responding in our own way. In the liturgy of the church for Lent and Holy Week and

&

Easter there is a certain sameness about the

celebrations in most parts of our country Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday, Good $

Friday, Easter Vigil and Resurrection. But in Broome it is somewhat different.

For seven years I have been privileged to

have taught in our Loreto School in Broome and I have come to appreciate and

i

understand a little of what the Life, Death

and Resurrection of Jesus mean to the

Aboriginal people. They are a people who have a very deep understanding and respect for Life and Death, so naturally, this is shown in their liturgies. Ash Wednesday is a time for remembering that they are a people of the earth - the dust. They came from the

and used to the full on Easter morning to

express the great joy of knowing that the Lord has risen.

We will open our Alleluia package at our "Alleluia Mass" after the holidays. We will be putting the Alleuia back into our lives

through prayer, song and good work. Easter celebrates the life of Jesus - his new life

began on Easter morning. This is different from his life that began in Bethlehem. It is more wonderful in many ways as this life will last forever. In the Junior School, we

explore the message of Easter through a number of activities. The symbols of the egg, chicken, candie, and butterfly are utilized to help the children understand the essence of this great feast within the Church.
