Basics of Quilting Gail Schaffler $135 This course is perfect for anyone who would like to learn to quilt. At orientation we discuss the pattern, the supply list, and you choose your fabrics. As you complete your quilt top during the following 4 classes, the course covers rotary cutting basics, sewing and sub-cutting strip sets, constructing pieced blocks, attaching borders and binding. Hand Appliqué Bernice Aebly $70 No sewing machine needed, this is all hand work. Slow down the pace and learn the basics of needle turn hand appliqué . We will use Kim Diehl’s book ‘Simple Appliqué’ as a reference, focusing on the needle turn method of appliqué. You will learn how to prep the pieces, learn the invisible tack stitch, learn how to work with points and curves, circles and bias stems. This project has bigger pieces, making it easy for a beginner to learn the basics of hand appliqué . ORT Thu Feb 7 6 pm - 8 pm Classes Thu Feb 14 & 21 6 - 9 pm Machine Appliqué Barb Leger $90 Learn all the basics to complete any satin stitch appliqué project. If you have a zigzag stitch on your machine, along with stitch length and width adjustments, you can do this. We will cover straight lines, inside and outside curves, inside and outside corners and points. We will also talk about needle and thread choice, machine settings, and other tips to help you get that beautiful finished look. There will be a skills class in the morning followed by a workshop in the afternoon where you can work on any appliqué project you have waiting for you (maybe a Row by Row, a block of the month or any other project you want support with). Wool Appliqué Bernice Aebly $70 Wool appliqué and wool embellishment are new, popular techniques in the quilting world. Add wool to flannel, cotton or wool on wool. Wool adds warmth, softness and makes a project very cozy. Wool is easy to work with because you have no seam allowances and no frayed edges because it is felted. We will learn how to felt wool, where to get wool, and about the variety of threads that can be used. This basic class will focus on hand work and get you started in the love of wool projects. Are We There Yet Laurrie Gerzanich $100 Want to try curves but not sure you want to make a full bed sized quilt? This quick and easy modern quilted wall hanging uses the Mini Quick Curve Ruler. To make things even less stressful for those of you that are scared of curves, you don’t have to worry about your points matching up, because we deliberately cut them off. Once you learn the techniques used in this project, you may decide that you want to expand the pattern into a full sized quilt, which would be no problem. Coffee & Cream Sharon Dimond $70 Coffee and Cream was designed to demonstrate how versatile Westalee Design Templates can be. It uses only one template and the result is a single design that changes when you “TempLeeQuilt” it. Make a quilt, a bed runner or whatever you choose! This technique allows you to quilt and do raw edge appliqué all at one time. Easy Pouches & Beach Bag Barb Leger $90 Want to learn how to make a variety of easy, fun pouches? During the first 4 hour class we will make a cell phone bag, a tissue pocket, a peeka-boo bag (with see through insert), a candy bag, a waterproof bag (for diapers or a wet swimsuit) and a snap happy bag. During the second class we will advance to make a mesh beach bag. Hopefully all bags will be completed during class time. A mandatory kit will need to be purchased as all pieces will be cut and ready to go. Register before February 28 so your kit can be cut. It’s A Wrap Clothesline Bowl Lisa Bernhard $45 You asked for it so here it is! Learn the art of fabric wrapped clothesline. In this three hour class you’ll construct a one-ofa-kind bowl of your choosing from the book ‘It’s a Wrap’. Once you learn the method you’ll be able to make trivets, coasters, bowls, baskets and even rugs to compliment your home or for gift giving. Once you make one project you’ll be hooked! A great stash buster. Book required. ORT Wed Mar 20 6 - 7 pm Class Tue Mar 26 6 - 9 pm Key Largo Barb Leger $100 This pattern comes from a Fons and Porter magazine. It is constructed with easy four patches and log cabin blocks and then embellished with some simple appliqué. The pattern is square but Barb has altered it to make a rectangular twin. Lemoyne Trails Gail Schaffler $110 This is a beautiful quilt that showcases the Lemoyne Star and snail’s trail blocks. The pattern is designed as a companion pattern for the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star and Large Square Squared tools by Studio 180 Design (tools required). Haven’t tried these great tools? There are no “Y” seams - it’s all straight line piecing. You can choose to use yardage and make a traditional one (similar to the one in the bottom picture) or you can start with a panel and enlarge it with the hexies (similar to the one in the top picture). Both use the same techniques. We have fabric arriving daily, so you never know what you may find in stock. There is always something wonderful to sew for these beautiful quilts. Perfect Endings Barb Leger $70 Dig those projects out of your closet – you are about to get them done! During this full day class you will learn many techniques to help you finish your quilt once it has been quilted. You will go home with small samples of binding with mitered corners, continuous bias binding, two-colour binding - with no hand stitching! Gail Schaffler, Studio 180 Design Certified Instructor Tucker U is a fantastic program that offers classes using the tools by Studio 180 Design. These tools are designed to help improve your quilting skills and accuracy by streamlining and simplifying construction of numerous units commonly used in quilting. To guarantee your place in a class, payment must be made at the time of registration. Phone registrations are accepted with Visa or Mastercard. If you are unable to attend a class, you may ask a friend to take your place. There are no refunds on registration fees. Class Pass exempt. If minimum enrollment is not met, we reserve the right to cancel the class. In this case a full tuition refund will be given. If there is no orientation, it is your responsibility to ensure that you get a list of materials or a pre-class homework list. Lori’s Country Cottage aims to keep the cost of classes down so we require that your supplies be purchased from Lori’s Country Cottage. Do not purchase your materials until the class has minimum enrollment. Due to copyright laws, class participants are required to have the pattern or book if applicable. No children, babies or guests in class. Teens 16 years and older are welcome in our adult classes. Please leave the store number at home for emergencies and have your cell phone turned off during class. Please be prompt for on-time start to classes. Most of our classes have an orientation class (ORT) scheduled prior to the actual class. This clue will include the fabric requirements and the cutting instructions for the full quilt. Every second Saturday another clue will be revealed. An invite to a private Facebook page will be sent prior to start for you to follow along with other Mystery participants all over North America. October 15 is the deadline for the quilt to be finished to submit in our viewer’s choice contest. Quilts will be displayed at Lori’s Country Cottage for viewers choice voting. The winning quilter will be awarded a $100 gift card to Lori’s Country Cottage.
