& MORE LACE

feminine sweet & delicate

C

lose your eyes and let’s rewind! Remember as a little girl, there was always a delicate, floral-like ensemble you saw in your mother’s photos? It was white and reached miles long. If you’re thinking of wedding dresses, then cheers! Because lace reminded me of the wedding dress I saw in my parent’s photos too. The lace was an exquisite addition to the dress, making it look very precious and beautiful. Lace is often used on dresses that are worn for special occasions because of its delicate, net-like ornamental fabric that gives the outfit an elegant vibe.

“Lace is a classic fabric that has resisted to fashion trends over the years” – Alessandra Boratto, Mini Trends and Co.

Since then, lace has already evolved beyond dresses used for weddings and fancy parties. Today, we see lace embody in all shapes and forms of clothing and accessories, such as t-shirts, tank tops, cardigans, dresses, shorts, skirts, headbands, necklaces, socks, and many more. The idea of lace being worn for casual day-to-day life is not absurd, as lace still retains its dainty, soft textile. Although lace is a fragile material, little girls often feel intimated with the thought of lace because they have the impression that lace is difficult to pull off and is worn by grown ups only. But that is not true! Lace is a style that would look adorable on all girls, especially during springtime. Girly, sweet lace dress isn’t your little girl’s style? Let’s try it as pants paired with a leather jacket of matching colour for a smart, casual look. Better yet, blue denim overalls with a tint of lace that are comfortable for those active ones for a more boyish look.

sorts of way to include lace into outfits without having to wear a complete lace outfit. So if you think your girls don’t like, still give it a try, as there are fun alternatives!

black, creating a statement with the lace fabric. Combining lace, such a fine fabric to very vivid colours shows the contrast between the two. But even then, when the little girls wore the clothes, it could still showcase their youth, innocent, and sweet side.

– Alessandra Boratto, Mini Trends and Co.

Colours play a huge part in textile because different coloured lace can easily change a style. Cream, white, peach and other soft pastel colours make it delicate, reminding us of little princesses and fairies. Dark navy blue, red, black colours make it more chic, bold and edgy attitude. Other colours such as neon green, blue, orange adds a sense of fun craziness, for retro style. The lace trend was also spotted during the Dolce & Gabbana children’s summer collection 2015. The lace fabric was not within the usual expectance of soft, delicate, and light colours. Instead, it was mixed with bold, vibrant colours of red and

Suri Cruise, known as a young trendsetter, has been spotted wearing a white, ruffle-layered lace dress, with her long hair floating past her shoulder. Upon seeing her in the outfit, makes us want to go ‘awe’ because of the princess style. North West was spotted in Paris Fashion Week, wearing an all black, sheer lace, Givenchy outfit, matching with Kim Kardashian. The attire has an edgy style, yet still overloads us with her cuteness.

Lace is a timeless piece that will continue to surprise us with something new each and every time.

KEEPING IT CASUAL Nike Levi’s Kids Rock- NYFW 2015 Catwalk

CATW Bright colours, layering and bold patterns were seen at the Nike Levi’s Kids Rock Runway for Fall 2015. The show consisted of children’s looks from both Nike and Levi’s brand including Jordan, Hurley and Converse as well, all of which are under the Haddad Brands umbrella. The casual street wear look was a common theme of the entire show. Nike and Levi’s did not dissapoint in their first collaboration together. An energetic vibe was brought out by Nike. Bright neon colours paired with dark neutrals such as grey and black made the colours stand out and appear quite bold. Trends from 90’s fashion made their way in as well with shirts draped around the waist. In many of the girl’s looks statements were made with leggings whether it be with the use a bright colours or bold printed patterns. On top, the silhouettes where kept loose and boxy in contrast to the tight bottoms. Chunky headbands finished off the sporty looks.

CHéRI APRIL CHÉRI apRIl 2015

A handful of celebrity children were spotted taking taking the runway including Kiyan Anthony, Carter Sabithia, Cyia Sabithia, Jaden Sabithia as well as Leah Still.

WALK The Levi’s looks were much more toned down in comparison, colour wise. Red and army green were colours used to accent the light and dark shades of denim. Many denim on denim looks were seen which can risk looking overpowering. The use of the different washes of denim however broke up the looks in a very clean way.

The layering of denim collared shirts, jackets and overalls was done with soft fabrics and plaid patterns. The red plaid with the denim provides a very casual, laid back and classic feel. The ripped jeans complimented the laid back style and gave new depth to the looks. Overall the show provided a fresh new take on casual classic looks. Perfect for heading to the playground or going to school, Levi’s and Nike have got the little ones covered for whatever adventures they might take on next.

MAMMA Dolce & Gabbana Goes Family Friendly

FILE

Models of a very young age were unexpectedly spotted heading down the runway during Milan Fashion Week 2015. It was an ode to mothers everywhere in Dolce & Gabbana’s appropriately named “Viva La Mama” show. The collection was quite personal, inspired with memories of youth and featuring matching mother daughter looks. It was truly a celebration of motherhood and all its wonders. In every culture family is of utmost importance and that is no exception to the Italian culture where Dolce & Gabbana gets its roots. Models strutted down the runway with their children. Pregnant model Bianca Balti looked glowing as she showed off her figure. The show was quite different than the typical high fashion show but it was a breath of fresh air.

“She’s always there, she’s the person you can always call. Every man everywhere has a mother.”

– Stefano Gabbana Designers Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce were inspired by their own mothers and memories growing up. The designs created for women were translated into juniors wear.

But floral’s mixed in with bold plaid, stripped and polka dotted patterns to incorporate the right amount of playful youth that give life to the clothes.

Silk dresses with drawings that appeared to be straight out of a children’s colouring book were seen. As well as red rosy floral’s complimented with soft pinks and beautiful sequin embroidered phrases relating to the theme of mothers. Dolce and Gabbana’s junior collection can be seen at It was a particulary smart move in marketing the www.dolcegabbana.com/child Dolce & Gabbana Junior line that was first launched back in 2012.
