Women of Weld Hold Fund Raising Breakfast at the Fort In Ft. Lupton, CO where Weld County Candidates Speak

Women of Weld (WOW) hosted a fundraising breakfast at the Fort in Fort Lupton, Colorado. Many candidates showed up to participate. With Weld County Commissioner Sean Conway doing a good job auctioning off the donated baked goods as a fund raiser for candidates who win their primary. There were lots of WOW folks and lots of candidates but not a whole lot of the general public. We should be asking ourselves how we encourage people to participate more so that there will be greater voter turnout. See pictures on Page 16.

Lincoln Club of Colorado Hosts 4th Congressional District Debate at Northridge High School in Greeley

The Lincoln Club of Colorado, hosted the 4th Congressional District Debate. The event opened by Lincoln Club President Mary Dambman, brought Barbara Kirkmeyer, Steve Laffey, Ken Buck and Scott Renfroe to the table. Moderating the event was Eli Stokol of Channel 31 news. Kirkmeyer and Laffey appeared relaxed and conversational at their table. The same could not be said about Renfroe and Buck, a little chilly perhaps. Seating as well as opening statements were determined by random drawing before the event. About 75 people attended, written questions were submitted with Stokol asking for responses in alternating order.

Stoneham, CO Celebrates 125th Anniversary

On June 14th, 2014 the residents of Stoneham will celebrate the 125th anniversary of the founding of the town. The Stoneham Historical Society (see picture) has been meeting and planning the event. Many of the area’s original homesteading families are represented including, the Northrup, Bartram, Willich, Ott, Mertens and Tappy to name a few. It is amazing to read through the early history about the trials and tribulations that homesteading really involved. It was a challenge in the early 1900’s that really tested people. The stories of W.D. Northrup, the Saga of the Bartram family as written by Arlene Bartram Frasco Baggley, the Tappy family, the Stoneham Historical Society plans Willich’s and many more make 125th Anniversary Celebration. for a fascinating look at a different time and place in Colorado history. At the last Stoneham Historical Society meeting we had the opportunity to meet Dorothy Willich who, at 101, still lives on the homestead about 7 miles north of town. In reviewing the family stories in the “ Homesteading the Dryland – A History of Northeast Weld County edited by Bud Wells, Dorothy is mentioned as the school teacher from Greeley, who came to Stoneham, as Kenneth Willich’s new bride in 1936! She was a city gal. Dorothy Willich, What a change the dry land was for her! 101 Years Young

Attention: Voters in House District 63 Republican Primary

This past week, you have received material from the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners Super Pac and Christy Rodriquez’s Colorado Campaign for Life supporting incumbent Lori Saine for the office. In the case of the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners Super Pac it contained an implied untruth about Bruce Sparrow’s views on the 2nd Amendment. The Colorado Campaign for Life just contained a vile advertisement. Under the rules for 501 ( C ) 4 organizations donors can be anonymous. Originally, it was designed to protect people against threats and harassment. It was not contemplated to be used by people that would publish untruths or use vile material to convey a message; however false it may be, while hiding in the backroom. When asked, Lori Saine said she did not authorize Christy Rodriquez ‘s Colorado Campaign for Life Campaign material and did not know about the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners Super Pac advertisement. I have to take her at her word. It is important that you are not intimidated or so disgusted to the point you do not vote. YOUR VOTE IS IMPORTANT. It is your right. Bruce Sparrow needs your vote to represent rural Colorado at the State House. We, the people who live in Colorado House District 63, deserve better representation in Denver.
