Ft. Lupton High School Reunion Class of 1954 and 1964 What a fantastic turnout for the joint celebration of the Fort Lupton High School graduating classes of1954 and 1964 and their invited guests held this past weekend at the Fort in Fort Lupton, CO as they celebrated 50 and 60 years since graduation. Invited guest, Mr. Don Cummins announced that exactly 100 years ago this year (2014), the first class graduated from FLHS with three graduates! Wow! An attendance of over 100 shared in the celebration by taking a tour of the newly opened Fort…many members of the classes weren’t aware the Fort was in existence let alone how it came to be but with many thanks to the volunteers of the South Platte Valley Historical Society (all dressed in period clothing relevant to that time in history) they all learned about why and how many, many volunteers and donations achieved the reconstruction of the Fort and many of the donated outbuildings. After the tours and class photos, all the attendees gathered together around the flag pole in the central part of the Fort for the presentation of the colors by The Buffalo Soldiers, followed by the Pledge of AlClass of 1954 legiance and Grace by Dr. Jim Barrington prior to the evening meal. The meal was graciously served by Forlurado Club, a local group of women whose service in the club is to work together to make some of the needs of the Fort Lupton Schools and Community come to fruition. The meal in keeping with the old time social events consisted of Sloppy Joes, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad, Baked Beans and a Veggie tray and refreshing iced tea, lemonade or cold water. The Class of ’54 honored all with an array of various types of cookies and cupcakes. The entertainment for the evening was provided by Tannnis Bator who presents herself as “Rattlesnake Kate”, a true legend of the Fort Lupton area, as she takes on the life of Kate and how she came to kill so many, many rattlesnakes at one time. Her Class of 1964 history can be found in the Greeley Museum as well as other information on her in the local Fort Lupton City Museum. Cont. on Page 5, See Ft. Lupton High School Reunion

Stoneham, CO 125th Anniversary Celebration, Milepost 256.26

The story of Stoneham beginnings has a lot to do with the railroad, but that is another story, the real story of Stoneham is about its people and what it took to homestead in the early 1900’s. Many of the original homesteading families were represented at the 125th Anniversary Celebration last Saturday, many of whom participated in the celebration parade. Researching the many stories of the individual families tells a story of coming to a new land and working long and hard to make a living and to raise a family in what at best could be described as a hard environment. The work ethic and family values that were exhibited are a testimony to the strength of the men and woman who came. We applaud them as they are a basic component of the proud history of Colorado’s early settlers. There are many stories to tell of the original families we have selected a few to share. For any errors in compiling we apologize for and take full responsibility. Big thanks to the Stoneham Historical Society, President Barry Bartram and all the folks who assisted us in gathering the material for our articles including Jan Northrup, Kay Dollershell, Barbara Maleby, Ann Mertens and Judy Tappy to name a few.
