Weld Energy Councils, Fort Lupton Colorado’s United States Senator Cory Gardner gets Chamber Host Community Forum with First Hand View of Flood Damage Repair Status and Update from Evans Mayor John Morris and Anadarko Petroleum Corporation August 11, 2015 – Fort Lupton, CO – The Energy Councils of Weld County and Fort Community Development Manager Zach Ratkai Lupton Chamber of Commerce were joined by Anadarko Petroleum Corporation today at
a community forum to connect community members with the exploration and production company as it continues development in the area. “We have achieved many milestones in the Wattenberg field and Weld County since beginning activity in the area more than 30 years ago. We look forward to new opportunities in Fort Lupton and value our continued partnership with area communities and leadership, as we safely provide the oil and natural gas resources that power Coloradans’ way of life,” said Craig Walters, Anadarko Vice President of Operations for the Greater Wattenberg Area. Colorado holds almost ten percent of the nation’s natural gas resources and two percent of its oil reserves. Anadarko has invested almost $8 billion in capital projects since 2007, most of it in Weld County. While today’s oil and gas prices have impacted the local economy, Anadarko’s investment in Fort Lupton speaks to the long-term potential of the energy sector in Weld County. By the end of 2015, Anadarko expects to have drilled 300 wells in Weld County. “While many oil and gas companies have been scaling back their operations and local governments look for ways to attract additional jobs and investment to our communities, Fort Lupton and Weld County have been working with partners like Anadarko to find new economic development opportunities,” said Energy Council of East Weld Chair Bonnie Dunston, “and today we are recognizing the hard work and partnerships that lead to a promising future.” Weld County Commissioner Barbara Kirkmeyer explained, “We work with oil and gas companies and with citizens every week as commissioners, and whether it be on the regulations side, or the fiscal side with county tax dollars, we know how to make things work to everyone’s benefit in Weld County.” Fort Lupton Mayor Tommy Holton added, “In Fort Lupton we work every day to bring new jobs and investment to the community. And we work to provide for the safety and welfare of our citizens. Our partnership moving forward with Anadarko stands as a testament to our city working with the business community to spur our community forward.” The Weld Energy Councils work to engage the community in a two- way dialogue and education about the energy industry in Weld County. The Councils are a diverse grassroots team of business and community leaders who support responsible energy development and sustainable economic growth. Visit www.weldenergy.org for more information.
U.S. Senator Cory Gardner met with Evans town officials, Mayor Tom Morris, City Manager Aden Hogan and other town officials, along with Weld County Commissioner’s Barb Kirkmeyer and Sean Conway. The group gathered at the Evans city hall complex and then motored off to visit two sites, including Riverside Park. Many did not realize that Senator Gardner was on site the day of the floods and was in one of the last cars to get out before the roads were closed. Town officials shared frustration about the obtaining of FEMA authorized funds and about the process itself, as the requirements for application are burdensome for small communities. Upfronting the expenses of an extraordinary nature and than having to wait for reimbursement puts a strain on smaller communities. Commissioner Kirkmeyer noted that downtown Evans is just as important to its citizens as downtown Boulder is to its. Senator Gardner committed to following up with the FEMA folks in Washington. While at one site the Salazar’s, local residents of Evans for over 30 years, shared with Senator Gardener the personal frustration that they have had to experience as their house is just across the washed out road area the group was meeting at. It was refreshing to view the local, state and federal officials discussing very specific issues. Maybe we all would be better off if there was more of that!
