Staying local this summer? Immerse yourself in Nottingam’s rich history while enjoying fun-filled family days out! Many of us will be spending more time at home this summer, so it’s lucky that our city is so rich in history for us to experience and enjoy with friends and family.

The gates of city centre landmark, Nottingham Castle, will swing open this summer following a £30million investment. After entering through its historic gatehouse, discover the legend of Robin Hood and stories of the Castle through interactive games and projected films in the familyfriendly galleries. The adventure playground, Hood’s Hideout, is the perfect place for younger outlaws to let off some steam, and the Terrace Café and

Coffee Shop offer children’s menus. If you venture north of the city into Sherwood Forest this summer, organisers of the Robin Hood Festival, the RSPB, are presenting a series of small events as part of Wild in the Greenwood programme throughout the summer holidays. Little ones feeling brave? Then go even further back in time at Wollaton Hall for dinosaur day out Titus: R-Rex is King and explore it’s beautiful grounds while you’re at it. Yes! Children’s parties are back this summer! Tips to make your little one’s day super special Children’s birthdays are precious, and the memories from happy days, parties and special days out last a lifetime.

From this summer, it feels like we need to make an even bigger fuss to make up for birthdays we couldn’t celebrate last year! Party planner and host, Helen Whatling from the Old Barn at Field Farm, has given us a few tips to make your child’s 2021 birthday one to remember. “I love a children’s party, but it’s not all fun and games. Like any event, the more you plan in advance, the more fun your guests will have, and the more you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the moment with your children.” Set a budget: This will help you decide whether you can afford an all-inclusive deal with food, entertainment and party bags, or you’ll have to do some of it yourself. Ask your child what they’d like to do. Yes, children do change their

minds rapidly, but if they’d love a particular theme, then go for it! Whether it’s Toy Story, cops and robbers, or pirates and fairies, if your child gets what they want, you’re off to a good start. Get help. Ask family to lend a hand on the day, and book some entertainment! 6

We’ve got loads of fantastic entertainers in Nottingham, from football, to magic, slime to princesses – they’ll keep the kids happy while you get to chat to your guests. Don’t go crazy with food. It’s really popular to box or bag up picnic lunches for each child in advance, so no waste! Ditch the plastic. Party bags don’t have to be full of single use plastic – books, crafts and flower seeds are lovely too. But if you’re not ready to party... Cake smashes, like these by Little Jems photography can be a lovely way to celebrate!

We asked you what you love about parties “Singing Happy Birthday and helping my daughter blow out her candles.” Holly, Sneinton “The noise! Happy children having a great time is a real joy.” Sian, Beeston “Pass the parcel, and musical chairs. The classics are here to stay!” Jay, Sherwood Image credits

Your fertility questions answered By Dr James Hopkisson, Medical Director of TFP Nurture Fertility “There are several possible causes for a delay in conceiving either a first, second, or even a subsequent pregnancy. Try not to worry. As many as one in seven couples experiences difficulty conceiving, but 80% will conceive in the first year of trying and by the end of two years more than 90% of couples will have conceived.”

What can we do to support our fertility? “Making sure you both have a

healthy diet and optimisiming your body mass index (BMI), stopping smoking, decreasing alcohol and caffeine intake are all vital steps you can take. All women should be taking folic acid and vitamin D. For men, a Well Man supplement to help sperm function may be beneficial too.”

When should I seek help? “If you are worried about a delay in conceiving,

it’s reasonable to speak to your GP after around six months of trying especially if you are over 35, have irregular cycles or your partner’s history suggests a male factor cause.”

How can Nurture Fertility help?

“We can provide advice, baseline blood tests and formulate a treatment plan. Some people may need specialist care, where either donor eggs or donor sperm is required. At Nurture we recruit egg and sperm donors to help people have families they long for. If you could help another couple become a family through donation, please do get in touch.”

Visit www.nurturefertility.co.uk or call 0115 896 1900 for more information

Struggling to conceive? At TFP Nurture Fertility, we host a variety of FREE information events for people considering fertility treatment. Sessions cover the treatments we offer, the patient pathway, pricing, the donor process and there is always the opportunity to ask questions.
