Location:
Monday, September 13, 2010 Bay Oaks Country Club 14145 Bay Oaks Blvd.
Houston, Texas 77059 Schedule: 1:00 p.m. Shotgun Start All proceeds from this year’s golf tournament will benefit the following programs of the National Kidney Foundation Serving Southeast Texas: Kidney Early Evaluation Program - K.E.E.P. | Our free kidney health screening program, Kidney Early Evaluation Program (K.E.E.P), is designed to provide testing and educational information to prevent or delay kidney disease and its complications. We screen individuals with risk factors for kidney disease such as diabetes, high blood pressure and anemia. Camp Shining Stars | As one of the only six camps in the US, and the only in Texas, we provide a unique summer camp experience young patients suffering from kidney and urological diseases while serving their medical needs such as on-site dialysis. Funding for Camp Shining Stars is entirely supported through the generous donations from the public.
• Kidney disease is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States, behind heart disease, cancer and strokes. • Kidney disease is a terminal illness, and there is currently no cure. The only hope for survival is a kidney transplant; and the critical shortage of organs that are available for transplantation means a death sentence for most kidney patients. • There are over 2.4 million Texans who have kidney disease and must rely on an artificial kidney, called a dialysis machine, to sustain their life. • The average life expectancy for someone on dialysis is less than 7 years. • For those living on dialysis, the treatments are painful and timeconsuming (patients spend 4 to 5 hours per day intravenously attached to a machine). THE SOLUTION
• The National Kidney Foundation Serving Southeast Texas is dedicated to the detection, treatment, prevention and eradication of kidney disease. • Chartered in 1964, the National Kidney Foundation Serving Southeast Texas is committed to the education and prevention of kidney and urinary tract diseases, and the awareness of the need for organ donation.
