About Wheeler Avenue Inner City Visions In 1976, Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church in Houston, Texas created the Wheeler Avenue 5Cs, Inc. (WA5Cs) formerly known as Central City Comprehensive Community Center. Designated by the IRS as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization in 1979, its name was changed to Wheeler Avenue Inner City Visions (WAICV) and it serves as the social service provider for Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. WAICV provides outreach services to the Third Ward community and focuses its efforts on three programmatic service areas: ex-offenders, homelessness and prenatal education. WAICV has a proven track record of developing, implementing and sustaining social projects that include job and life skills training for ex-offenders; mentoring programs for ex-offenders, inner-city youth and seniors, drug prevention for at-risk youth, transitional housing for homeless women and children, and prenatal education for African-American women. One recent project is the renovation of the Madge Bush Transitional Living Center in Houston’s Third Ward.
Madge Bush Transitional Living Center Completed Renovations
Madge Bush Transitional Living Center On June 25th, 2010, a Grand Opening ceremony marked the completion of the renovations of the Madge Bush Transitional Living Center (MBTLC), a haven of shelter, safety and support for homeless women and their children. The renovation project for the 16-unit property was developed and implemented by Wheeler Avenue Inner City Visions (WAICV) and included new furniture, attractive landscaping and artful detail on the fencing. The grounds are secure, yet provide a peaceful setting for women who are working to better themselves – both for their sake and for the sake of their children.

In addition, it offers transportation for doctor and grocery store visits; life skills training in financial literacy, preparing for interviews, parenting, and nutritional classes which also include elements of how to shop for the right food; and a computer lab to aid in their job search and educational pursuits.

Sponsorship Opportunities
A Word from the Chairman On any given night in America, anywhere from 700,000 to 2 million people are homeless. In my opinion, it is not acceptable for children and families to be without a roof over their heads in a city as great as ours. Although the recession has hit close to home, impacting several families in the Third Ward Community, we must change our attitudes and provide a helping hand. As a longtime leader and advocate for the poor and underprivileged, Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, and its nonprofit agent, Wheeler Avenue Inner City Visions (ICV), continues to be a source of support and encouragement for those who have been most affected – the homeless in our community. We invite you to join us on May 23, 2011 to raise funds that will support programs and operations of ICV’s “Homeless No More” Initiative. We will host our 1st Annual Golf Tournament at Sugar Creek Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas. Proceeds from this event will support the highly acclaimed Madge Bush Transitional Living Center, Wheeler’s newly renovated 16 unit complex located in the heart of Third Ward that provides stable housing and counseling to homeless women and their children. As advocates of the “Homeless No More” Initiative, I, along with Co-Chairs Charles and Alberta Rencher, encourage you to play a key role in the tournament by becoming a Sponsor. With your support, we can continue to eradicate homelessness in our community. Please review the Sponsorship Form (opposite page) which provides information on the various levels available and the benefits associated with each.
