Tableaux
Year 13 really enjoyed becoming characters from the nativity in the Christmas Tableaux. Wearing the costumes, including beards for some and grey face paint for others, was as popular as ever.

Trips Cranedale
The second weekend after halfterm, the year 12 geographers visited the Cranedale field studies centre in Yorkshire. They were working on their rivers study which will be used in their January exam. The food was excellent and amazingly the only rain we saw was on the journey home!
Junior Ski Trip
Just before Christmas a group of 25 girls visited Montgenèvre on the junior ski trip. The snow conditions were excellent and this enabled the girls to enjoy some really good skiing every day. Fortunately they still had some energy left at the end of the day to take part in a wide range of Après Ski activities too.

Trips Salamanca
Some of our girls took part in a Spanish homestay trip to Salamanca in October half-term. During the trip they had the chance to taste the local tapas and enjoyed a day out to Segovia.
Poland
During the October half term 30 girls from years 12 and 13 visited Poland with the RS department. Many beautiful places were visited in Krakow including a number of Churches and synagogues. The visit to the salt mines was spectacular and the final day was spent at Auschwitz and Birkenau; an experience which will live with everyone in the group for ever.

Sport
Sporting Achievement
It has been a productive and successful term in the PE department. Both the cross-country and tennis teams progressed through the county and regional rounds to qualify for the National Schools’ competitions, where the former was placed in 19th position and the latter finished in 4th place. The U16 netball team have improved tremendously; they won their county tournament and now represent Leicestershire at the East Midlands regional event in January. In the Independent Schools’ Cup competition, the U19 and U13 netball squads have reached the last eight teams in the country. The U18 hockey squad should also be congratulated on their success in the National Schools’ competition; they progressed to the last eight in the midlands, a level that has not been reached since 2003. Lastly, an orienteering squad has been formed; in October they won the British Schools’ score championships and in November they were placed in 13th place overall at the British Championships.
