INSPIRATIONAL PERFORMANCES Our calendar of musical events for 2018-19 sees several well established Loughborough traditions for outstanding musical performances refreshed and energised with some new events that also promise exceptional opportunities for our young musicians.

While Lunchtime Live, SoundBites and our Faculty based concerts give performance opportunities for huge numbers of soloists and ensembles, our immense Spring Concert at De Montfort Hall will be of epic proportions this year, with Sixth Form soloists performing concerto movements as well as a huge performance of Vivaldi’s Gloria. Featuring an orchestra of pupils and staff, the performance will also showcase a large scale chorus comprising our combined Senior choirs, Year 7 pupils from all three Senior schools and the Loughborough Singers.

We are delighted to be able to welcome some of the country’s leading musical experts who will be offering an Enhanced Music Programme of workshops, masterclasses and lectures to interested and enthusiastic musicians. Access to all these events is open; offering these experiences to all pupils and parents is a key part of our mission to promote excellence for all. This year sees the introduction of our new look Loughborough Music Competitions. Open to young musicians from the Loughborough Schools Foundation and beyond and featuring expert adjudicators, the various competitions run through the year.
Do come along and celebrate what our young musicians are doing where you can. Watching them grow and develop is truly inspirational.

Matthieu Leger is based in Loughborough. Since graduating with a first-class honours degree from University College Falmouth, he has gone on to have successful exhibitions across the UK. For his work at university he was awarded the Sir Richard Ford Award, a scholarship to study from the collection at the Prado Museum in Madrid. He has also been the recipient of various prizes; the Trevor Thomas prize at the Leicester Open 26 exhibition (2014) and the Nottingham Castle Open Exhibition (2015), where he was awarded both the Nottingham Society of Artists Prize and the John-E-Wright Prize. Matthieu’s work explores ideas around construction and deconstruction, with a focus on what it means to be painting and image making in the digital age. Matthieu will be continuing his practice and teaching alongside department staff as artist in residence in Loughborough High School art studios from September 2018 to July 2019.
