We are proud to say that we are the largest student fundraising section in the country, and this is down to the amazing experiences we offer you. As you’ll find out in this magazine we provide countless opportunities, whether you want to do something small like our campus Colour Dash, or a greater challenge such as climbing Mt Kilimanjaro or dog sledging across the Arctic circle, it’s safe to say we have something for you! I don’t want to sell any of the events short by giving you one line descriptions here, so take a look at this magazine and choose the challenges you want to complete!

I am delighted to write in support of Loughborough Student Rag. Every year Loughborough students raise over £1 million pounds for good causes. This is a phenomenal sum of money and as a result Loughborough Students’ Union leads the country in terms of the amount raised and the support they can give to worthy people and organisations. But Rag is about more than simply raising money. The projects that Rag run will give you the opportunity to do new things, develop new skills and make new friends. Whether

it is standing on a corner shaking a bucket to raise money for the Poppy Appeal or climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, two examples of Rag activities, your contribution will not only make a difference to the lives of other people but you will have a great time and make an important contribution to one of the things that makes Loughborough University a special place. I wish Jonny King, Rag Executive Officer for 2016-17 and his team every success. Everyone that contributes to Rag can make a difference and I hope that you will do that too. Professor Robert J. Allison Vice Chancellor and President Loughborough University

Have you ever climbed a hill? Been to the top of the London Eye or the Shard? Or even looked out the top floor of a sky scraper and through, jeezz what a view. Why not top all of those past experiences by taking it to the next level and climbing to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, standing at 5,895 meters it is the tallest free standing mountain in the world. It might not be the most technical climb, but it certainly is a challenge, some often find the fundraising the hardest part of the trip, however not to worry, this year the Loughborough students taking part in the once in a life time experience have raised an amazing ÂŁ146,591.50 for the selected charity. This is down to the constant support available to students from team leaders and the charities themselves.

Well why not sign up to the Everest Base camp trek with The Children Society, standing at 5,360 metres you’ll be in left speechless by the surrounding scenery. Don’t worry if you think that you’ll struggle with altitude, there are plenty of days for you to acclimatise and enjoy the relaxing Nepalese lifestyle. If that’s not enough to convince you why not hear it from a past Loughborough student who completed the trip! “Everest Base Camp is by far the best thing I have ever done! The trek is a challenge and the Himalayas are phenomenal, never have I felt so in awe at the sheer size of these mountains. The feeling of reaching Base Camp after 9 days trekking is incredible but the stops along the way give the trip character, whether it’s picking up souvenirs at Namche Bazaar, washing in the river at Periche or teaching card games to your Sherpas, there is so much to this trip to enjoy!” Jenna Holmes

Following the success of last years trip we are re- running this unbelievable trek. Find yourself trekking through the amazing scenery of Western-Uganda, hiking through forests, up the sides of mountains and even crossing lakes in traditional dug out canoes. Along with all of this enjoy a day searching for the last remaining Silver back mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. A great addition top this trip is your work with the local Ugandan communities. You will spend some of your time transforming a field into a school playground for local children to enjoy for many years to come.

PARIS (L2 P

Three days. Two wheels. The time of your life. From one iconic city to the next you will cycle approximately 240 miles through the heart of London, over steep hills, through the French country side and down the cobbled streets of Paris. Day one you will have conquered some of the steeper hills, made it through London and down to the ferry port where you will sleep overnight. Day two is incredibly picturesque and you will enjoy the long winding roads, tiny villages and wonderful weather. Day three will be the last and best day, managing to locate your way around the busy, narrow streets of Paris and finishing underneath the Eiffel tower! You have a dedicated team, a top night out in Paris and probably some interesting tan lines too. Every penny raised will go towards helping the 8000 women and 400 men each year that are affected by breast cancer. You could be the next Wiggins, or just have learnt to take the stabilisers off, this trip is for anyone.

Prepare yourself for the ultimate thrill that you can’t experience at any fairground ride, 13,500ft straight down. The ultimate test of courage. Whilst attached to a skydiving instructor, you will jump out of a plane two and a half miles above the ground and reach terminal velocity before the parachute is pulled and you can glide safely down to the ground. When you are in the gliding part, if you look around you see the amazing views that the county of Nottinghamshire can give you and gain a unique viewpoint of the countryside and surrounding towns. This is really something that a lot of people have on their bucket list so this event is strongly worth considering. This event raises for Breast Cancer Now which is an outstanding cause which wants to end breast cancer completely by the year 2050.

COACH. CITY. HOSTEL. RAISE. This pretty much sums up a Rag raid! Intrigued? Well, our aim is to allow you to explore new cities, experience exciting nightlife, and meet new people, all whilst spectacularly raising money for some fantastic charities! About 50 students go on every raid, with you all put on a coach and sent any part of the country, ranging from London, to Manchester, to Cardiff – whether this will be raising while donning a tutu in a tube station, wearing a banana costume at a football stadium, or running round the streets of Manchester dressed as Alice in Wonderland! Don’t want to dress up? Then you don’t have to, with many students often opting for a free, simple, but effective charity t-shirt to draw in the donations! Last year alone, we raised a whopping £146,282.71 on raids!! It’s an unforgettable experience which your university life, just cannot go without! Name a few out of the many, many charities we raise for? Cancer Research. Royal British Legion. Breast Cancer Now. Meningitis Research Foundation. St Mungo’s Broadway.
