Horace Mann Elementary School As an award-winning public elementary school in the nation’s capital, Horace Mann serves an incredibly diverse, multi-national student population. A lively place of learning, Horace Mann celebrates curiosity, creativity, and connection, bringing together both a global and local community of learners. Horace Mann has been recognized five times as a National Blue-Ribbon School, a widely recognized symbol of exemplary teaching and learning, and a distinction that only a handful of schools nationwide have achieved. Every year, we rely on the generosity of parents, community members, and local businesses like yours to support our school. Like all public schools, we make the most of every hard-earned tax dollar. Through the fundraising efforts of our Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), we are able to fund additional resources that benefit our entire school community. PTA members, partners, and sponsors have a direct impact on the students’ educational experience – most notably by ensuring that every class has not one, but two, highly qualified teaching professionals. Burning Mann The annual auction is Horace Mann’s signature fundraising event of the year, and its success is critical to the ongoing operations of the school. All money raised at the auction is used directly to support the education of our children and to maintain Mann's exemplary standard of excellence. For the annual auction of the 2018-2019 school year, we are taking our inspiration from the annual gathering of Burning Man, which describes itself as “a culture of possibility.” So many of the principles of Burning Man align perfectly with those of Horace Mann – ideas such as "radical" inclusion, self-reliance, and self-expression, as well as community cooperation, civic responsibility, gifting, participation, immediacy, and leaving no trace. All it takes is the smallest tinder of imagination and a little encouragement to ignite a dream, so this year we are celebrating the creative spark of the Centaurs! Why Sponsor?
