Bear Cards - YCN 2017
Concept and Aim When approaching this brief, our aim was to create a magical journey for children to go on with Bear. After brainstorming, we arrived at the theme of classic fairy tales. We want to create a series of funny and engaging cards to expose a new generation of children to these well loved stories, encouraging literacy and education. The story begins with Bear visiting a public library, where he finds a book of fairy tales. He becomes immersed in the stories, reading long into the night. Bear drifts into a sleep and in his dreams he becomes a part of each story and they truly become “Beary Tales.

Illustration Style The style of illustration that we have chosen uses bold, colourful shapes to establish distinct and instantly recognisable silhouettes; while the line work and textures bring the artwork to life, injecting humour and homemade charm. Transforming Bear into different characters gives a element of comedy to these educational collectable cards. Leaving children wanting to know more about each story and making learning fun .

Facts We chose a combination of facts, jokes and quotes in correlation to each story, to entertain children and leave them wanting to find out more. To accompany the facts, we included smaller illustrations to make them more memorable and fun.

Collecting rewards As an additional idea, we came up with a rewards system, similar to previous years. If you collect a certain amount of Bear codes, you can receive a Beary Tales themed sticker book, along with Bear character stickers. This can encourage children to create their own stories at home.
