Artist Note: My mom taught me how to cross stitch when I was young. We would spend our summers in Sri Lanka with our grandmother and I would do a kid’s cross stitch every summer. My mom makes them as birthing announcements and wedding announcements for her friends and family. I used to think it was such an old lady hobby. It wasn’t until I was in an unhealthy living situation and working through the pandemic as an overwhelmed as a nurse tech that I began cross stitching again for the first time in 10 years. Something so simple about making an “X” over and over again helped me find a peace I desperately needed. It’s one of the reasons I’ll hopefully be an old lady one day.
