How overcome mental health disorders through photography

PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY

Here is a showcase of photographs that I have taken as a photographer to display the hidden emotions within various mental health disorders such as depression and anxiety.

Within my FEP I have conducted various research to enable me to have a better understanding of the short- and long-term effects that these disorders have on an individual differently compared to others.

Mental health disorders are commonly popular between older teenagers and young adults. This is why I have focused on this age group, to enable me to create a message that not everyone is perfect and, that we all have hidden emotions and disorders that are not considered 'normal' in society and are not talked about or expressed.

The various photographs highlighted within these two genres of photography can be represented differently depending on the audience and how they interpret the image. However, the photos with the mobile phone help represent that the person is hiding their true emotions and personality behind a screen due to the way society has portrayed a woman's body and mind, to fit their standards to create a 'normal' and 'perfect' image.

The photos with the clown makeup show that people's true emotions and thoughts are being clouded by society's expectations and that if you are different, you are looked upon and called weird and a clown for not fitting in.
