Originally from Ireland, I began my EFL career in Germany over 17 years ago and have been teaching, researching and writing about language and communication ever since. My main areas of interest include ESP materials development for seminars and in company training as well as curriculum design, programme evaluation and teaching with technology. I have lived and worked in Cologne and Berlin and now live in Hamburg where my main professional focus is one-to-one training within a blended learning framework. I revel not only in the variety and flexibility that this role offers but also in the challenge of providing my multifarious participants with pertinent, customized training. It was through my work with one-to-one participants in Hamburg that I met my Up to Speed co-author, Carole Eilertson. Six rich years of working together provided an excellent ground for collaboration and finally sealed our co-authorship fate!
