NEW STAFF SPOTLIGHT
LIESL BEGNAUD Recreation Coordinator –Adaptive Recreation
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
A native of Colorado, I am a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist with a love for adaptive and Paralympic sports. I have worked with persons with disabilities for the last several years including Paratriathlon athletes and veterans with paralysis. This past summer I worked with adaptive recreation opportunities in Ft. Collins leading adult social programs, providing inclusion support and teaching swimming to individuals with different abilities.
What are you most excited about in your new position as Adaptive Recreation Coordinator?
As the Adaptive Recreation Coordinator, I have the opportunity to connect people with disabilities with recreation, leisure and play activities through the Parks & Recreation Department. I’m excited to build and expand an adaptive recreation program that is inclusive and accessible to all people.
What does accessibility mean?
Accessibility can be defined as whether someone with a disability can access, experience or interact with something. Accessibility means breaking down barriers in our communities – and the wider world – to ensure everyone has opportunities to live, learn, work and play in their community.
