hanks for choosing LoveLiveLocal’s CapeMade Field Guide, your handbook to the Cape’s local-made, local-owned products and businesses! Whether you are a year-round Cape Codder, live here just for the summer or are simply visiting our salty shoreline, we hope the CapeMade Field Guide becomes your go-to resource for discovering new places, products and experiences that you won’t find anywhere else. LoveLiveLocal is the work of three local entrepreneurs – Amanda, Jen and Kate – who teamed up in 2013 to share our Cape Cod experiences, including what we love (products and businesses), how we live (day trips, events and activities) and who to know locally. We are passionate about building community by connecting locals and visitors alike with Cape Cod’s artists, artisans, musicians, makers, business owners, community advocates, farmers and others. Their ability to thrive year-round sustains Cape Cod’s unique culture. By keeping your dollars in our local economy, you can make a meaningful difference for our friends and neighbors (learn about the impact of shopping local on page 8). We hope our first-ever CapeMade Field Guide inspires you to think local first and to explore this incredibly special place we call home. Locally yours, Jen, Kate + Amanda

FOUR SEASONS ON CAPE COD

C

ape Cod is a well-known summer hot spot all over the world. Many people wonder what it is like to be on Cape Cod in what we call the “off season” (aka, not the summer). This place

has so much to offer year round, and is (almost) as good in the spring, fall and winter as it is in the high season of summer.

The autumn months are often referred

Just like everywhere else with four seasons,

take long walks on the beach (with our pups!), ride on the less crowded bike paths, and enjoy seasonal hot spots that stay open into the fall.

It is a perfect time to make a weekend trip

(take a staycation!) to one of the towns on the Cape you are less familiar with when room rates are cheaper and it is easier to get a table at a restaurant.

When the temperature drops, it also marks the beginning of the holiday season, which is just as festive and fun as any city. Some of the best local events happen in October and November, such as the Wellfleet Oysterfest, Pumpkin Day at Bourne Farm in North Falmouth, The Vinegrass Music Festival and of course the Cranberry Harvest Celebration.

4

Holiday strolls abound in almost every village and town, local shops and restaurants host events, Provincetown lights their Lobster Trap Christmas Tree, and Falmouth has their Christmas Parade that has been running for over 50 years.

all happen.

There is truly nothing better than summer

The feeling of anticipation for the upcoming

summer season creates a palpable buzz, it is also the time when seasonal businesses take the shutters off their doors and reopen for the season, while new shops and restaurants begin to open up.

From June through August, our sandy shores are firing on all cylinders and the list of things to do is endless. There are lobster roll cruises, dune tours in Provincetown, kayak adventures, outdoor concerts, and LoveLocal Fests. In Spring locals try to enjoy the activities we won’t be able to do during the super busy summer. We go on whale watches out of Hyannis or Provincetown (the whales are much better in the spring!), hit one of the dozens of the golf courses, or go camping in the 1,900 acres of Nickerson State Park.

Fourth of July celebrations take place in almost every village in every town with parades and barbeques, and fireworks displays over the ocean add an element of awe to the festivities.

This is the time to enjoy sipping a Cape Cod

Beer overlooking one of our many harbors, while soaking up the sunshine, and creating memories with friends. These are the carefree moments that make living here so incredibly special.
