We were inspired by so many things while creating this year’s Love Local Gift Guide. The idea of once again being able to get dressed up and celebrate the season; embracing the festive decor that gets us in the holiday mood; and as always connecting with Cape Cod’s deep sense of place that is created, curated and cultivated by the people, organizations and small businesses that reside here.
We hope you find that same inspiration in this local shopping guide, and we also hope you are inspired to shop local for all of the people (and pets!) on your list this holiday gift giving season.
There are hundreds of products in these pages - all sold at locally owned stores - that can give you gift ideas. This is just scratching the surface of what our local stores have to offer. Each one of the advertisers and featured businesses have so much more to offer, so be sure to go check them out (in person is much better, but many of them have great ecommerce sites too!). We also highly recommend heading to as many Cape Cod downtowns as you can to browse the local shops, restaurants, fitness studios and other offerings. It’s a great way to make your list and check it twice, and the best way to invest in your community.

It’s been a long road back to some semblance of normal, and even though it is still so important to continue to take care of each other with regards to COVID-19, it feels like we can now come back together for seasonal celebrations and holiday parties.
Speaking of celebrating, we are taking this opportunity to do a bit of that in these pages. Here you will find us highlighting the people and programs that, like Love Live Local, lend support to our local business community all year round, as well as places and products that add so much color and character to the Cape Cod landscape.
This spread features the forces behind Amplify POC Cape Cod and WE CAN’s small business programs, alongside those small business owners that have benefitted from them. They are all dressed in party clothes from a wide variety of locally owned boutiques, while also exhibiting their own creations.
You will be able to find these organizations and the work of each of these local makers popped up at the Love Local Fest :: Holiday Edition on December 3 from 10am-4pm at the Hyannis Village Green. Not only is this event the ultimate
holiday shopping event, but it is happening at the same time as the Hyannis Village Stroll and Hyannis Harbor Boat Parade where you will find endless amounts of family-friendly fun. There we will also be accepting donations to all three of our nonprofit organizations: Love Live Local, Amplify POC and WE CAN.
We chose the Cotuit Center for the Arts as the backdrop for these festive photos, not only because it is a welcoming hub for Cape Cod’s artists, performers, students, and audiences to create and nurture their art; but also because the gallery exhibit featuring the work of New York City based artist Brian Rutenberg was so bright and bold. Widely considered to be one of the finest American painters of his generation, Rutenberg has a distinctive method of compressing the rich color and form of his native coastal South Carolina into complex landscape paintings that imbue material reality with a deep sense of place.

Since 2001, WE CAN has supported and empowered women going through life transitions and challenges. They serve women of all ages providing unique, free services, referrals and resources to help foster independence and create lasting positive change. Their GROW Program is a facilitated peer mentoring program to empower women with the support and tools they need to be successful in growing their businesses.

Acqua has a curious and adventurous spirit that took her from New England, to California, and on to Mexico before returning to the East Coast. Katy has been a professional ceramic artist for over twenty years. With the ebbing tides releasing gifts from the oceans’ depths and the weather constantly shaping and reshaping the shorelines, Katy is never at a loss for inspiration. Amplify POC Cape Cod is a racial justice initiative to help amplify the businesses owned by people of color on Cape Cod. Amplify also provides training and educational opportunities to enhance economic development among people of color on the Cape.
