EXPLORING THE OUTER CAPE

TRURO flies under the radar, but has several natural attractions and businesses that should not be missed.

With more than half its area taken up by the Cape Cod National Seashore, it is easy to find a spectacular beach overlooking the Atlantic Ocean on which to spend a few hours relaxing or taking in nature: Ballston Beach, Longnook Beach, Head of the Meadow Beach or High Head Beach. Or go to Corn Hill Beach, Cold Storage Beach, Fisher Beach on the bayside for great views of Provincetown.

For even more exploration of the great outdoors, take a paddle down the Pamet River and into Pamet Hollow, hike on Pilgrim Spring Trail, or climb up to the Jenny Lind Tower or Bearberry Hill Eastern Summit for some spectacular views. Salty Market, High Tide Kitchen and Days Market shouldn’t be missed for picnic supplies and sustenance on the go. Be sure to stock up on some artisanal chocolate, small batch foods, and gifts at Chequessett Chocolate.

Complete your Truro landmark bingo with a trip to Highland Light and the Highland House Museum, and a stop for wine tasting and touring the grounds at Truro Vineyards & South Hollow Spirits. Take something home from the iconic Jobi Pottery or hard to find seasoning and kitchen essentials from Atlantic Spice Company.

Payomet Performing Arts Center brings in critically acclaimed musical talent, theater and circus arts from far and wide in a rustic setting. Before taking in a show, grab dinner overlooking the ocean at the Top Mast Cafe, some Mediterranean fare at Terra Luna, Italian and seafood at Montano's, innovative New American cuisine at Blackfish, or tacos and wings at Captain's Choice. Save room for treats at Savory & Sweet Escape.

PROVINCETOWN, the outermost town on Cape, boasts the world’s oldest art colony, larger than life events and culture brimming with pride.

If you’re looking for food, drinks, shopping, art, people-watching or entertainment, make your way to Commercial Street. Perk up with coffee from Wired Puppy, 361 Espresso Bar, Kohi Coffee Company or The Blue Monkey. Wet your beak and have a bite at the Nor’East Beer Garden, The Squealing Pig, Spindlers, Patio, Strangers & Saints. For waterfront dining and drinks, head to Fanizzi’s, Bubala’s By The Bay, The Mews, Sal’s Place, The Club, Bayside Betty’s or The Canteen. For food without the booze, don’t miss Spiritus Pizza (cash only!), Provincetown Fudge Factory (best peanut butter cups), Kung Fu Dumplings, Pop + Dutch, Far Land Provisions, Perfect Picnic and the East End Market. For watering holes without frills, belly-up at The Underground or The Old Colony, a beloved local dive. Just off the main drag (pun intended) find Provincetown Brewery and Liz’s Cafe Anybody’s Bar.

Bars with live music or drag shows are easy to find here. For brews and tunes head to Waydowntown, Tin Pan Alley, Porchside Bar or the newly renovated Governor Bradford. Atlantic House, aka A-House, is three bars in one - the Little Bar, the Macho Bar, and the Big Room, each with their own theme. Find your favorite drag performers at Pilgrim House, The Crown & Anchor, Post Office Cafe, The Art House and more. Don’t come fancy, just come dancey to Tea Dance at the Boatslip

Shop to your heart’s content at Mad As A Hatter, Respoke, Plush, Roots Home, Heavy Petal, Utilities, The Captain’s Daughter, Tim-Scapes, Anchor2Anchor, Provincetown Bookshop, and Womencraft, or indulge in herb at Haven, b/well, or Hennep Provincetown dispensaries. Gallery hop at Rice Polak, Art Market Provincetown, Bowersock Fine Art, Frederick Studio, Schoolhouse, Gallery 444, Thanassi and many more.

Explore landmarks like the Pilgrim Monument and Museum, Race Point Beach, Province Lands and Long Point for epic views and adventures.
