This book is dedicated to my Portland aunts and uncles: Lily, George, Dick, Sandy, Judy, and Hiroshi. These family members are an important part of my many Portland memories.
Introduction The challenge of Paul Butzi’s SoFoBoMo (Solo Photo Book Month) was to create a photo book from scratch within 31 days. All photography, writing, and book creation had to be performed within that window. Most of us photographers were wondering how we were going to pull off this feat. And yet we did. And it was tremendous fun (and work). I delivered Portland: A Love Letter. Mission accomplished. Yet, while I accumulated and processed hundreds (er, thousands) of photos within the 16 days I photographed, I discovered many subsets which could merit their own book. One such set was the limited number of monochrome photos I created along the way. Hey, I still have six days left over from my 31 day allotment. How about a second book? It would be simpler, of course. Just photos. Recycle my existing layout. Why not? SoFoBoMo is about speed, impulse, fun, and delivery. Let go. Let fly. So here is my second SoFoBoMo 2008 book – assembled in the span of a few hours using the scraps from the cutting room floor of the first book.

This book was created using Adobe InDesign CS3 under Mac OS 10.4 on the Apple Power Mac G5. The font Minion Pro is used for all text.
About Me Photography suits me, in spite of the fact that it wasn’t until March 2007 that I decided that photography might be something I could do well and consequently should start taking seriously. I’m an artist in general – but also a technogeek, as I make my living as a software developer and IT enterprise architect. For me, photography shines brightly at the intersection of art and technology. I’m also a writer, although I don’t get the chance to write much for myself. My poetry days are largely behind me, and I haven’t had a chance to work on my novel. I write a lot of technical documentation at work, and I maintain a personal blog, so my keyboards get plenty of exercise.
