Meanwhile, the budget-tuned 1275cc S-Class has undergone a revamp over the winter too, so look out for a crop of newcomers running with green windscreen headers and door squares, and carrying race numbers in the #700s.

Chairman’s Chat Words of wisdom from the man at the top.
R
eturning back to November of last year, we had a well-attended AGM and Technical Discussion at our regular location in Luton. As well as some lively discussion on several of the technical issues and a presentation of our 2016 race calendar, we also voted in the Committee for the current year. The only change to the 2015 Committee was the stepping down of Gareth Hunt as Mini Se7en Drivers’ representative. I would like to thank Gareth for all of his work on the Committee. I would also like to welcome Darren Thomas onto the Committee, as Gareth’s replacement. If there are any issues at the circuits, please initially approach the appropriate Drivers’ rep. before talking to the MSA officials. In January we had our first Awards evening at the Stratford Manor Hotel, near Stratford-uponAvon. It was a resounding success..... excellent service, good rooms and breakfast and we all enjoyed the band! So we have decided to return in 2017. It was nice to have our first Mini Se7en Champion Bob Fox as our invited guest of honour. The stories that he was telling us on our table were quite fascinating........ especially the tale about racing in a collar and tie! I was also pleased, as I’m sure all of the Membership was, to see that Graeme Davis was awarded the Fred Jackson Memorial Trophy {Club person of the year}. Well deserved Graeme.... a big thank you for what you have done in 2015. The race calendar for 2016 is as

exciting as usual. Colin Peacock has produced the best that he can arrange with the race organisers. For me, I’m looking forward to most of the venues, especially Cadwell Park and Zandvoort. As I couldn’t make the fantastic weekend last year in the Netherlands, this time I have
pencilled in the weekend to visit the home {for 37 years} of the Dutch Grand Prix. I’m sure most of us ‘racing’ fans will remember seeing the tragic footage of David Purley trying to save the life of Roger Williamson at the 1973 Grand Prix. 50 Years It seems amazing that we are about to start our 50th year since the Club was formed, the first race being at Brands Hatch on Sunday 17th 1966. This and other facts and figures with associated photographs, along with later years, have been painstakingly recorded by Richard Williamson in the excellent Mini 7 Racing Archives. at the Club awning at all race meetings. Also the 2016 regulations will be available at each race meeting along with the 2015 Pitlane review. To celebrate our Golden year, a new and exciting range of merchandise {clothing, umbrellas, mugs...... even a Mini 7 Racing Club Teddy} is available on our excellent Club Website. A big thank you, to Dan Wheeler, for organising this for the Club. I would like to thank all of our sponsors for their continued support; these will be indicated on the new 50th anniversary podium backdrop. Finally I would like to thank love:mini for the excellent newsletter..... if you have any articles to submit {building your new car, your past racing history etc} then please contact Craig McBeth. Also to the volunteers at each meeting, that make this Club so successful, yet again another ‘thank you’. If anyone wishes to lend a hand at race meetings, in whatever form it may be, please let one of the Committee know. I will be at the first round if there are things that you wish to discuss or you have a suggestion that might make this Club even better....... until then, I wish you all an exciting season, with more highs than lows. See you at Castle Combe

Mini Se7en News
What’s in store for the 50th year
T
his year’s Mini Se7en Club Championship is set to be extra special as it marks a significant milestone for the club - 50 years since the first Mini 7 Club championship race in 1966 - and to celebrate you can expect to see some very special things.
Firstly, there is the exciting news of returning champions and past racers taking on the current defending champions, pitting new vs old. The Club has also been invited to take part in a couple of special extra events, separate to the race calendar. There’s the Coventry MotoFest on June 4-5, and the exciting repeat of the overseas trip to Zandvoort in Holland, that went down so well at the end of last season.
This has had the effect of extended the race season a little longer, which is always a good thing. Some of the circuits we will be racing on this season are allowing us to use the GP layouts so that is another little treat. Extra support is coming from Mini Magazine this year which is supporting us with articles on the club’s rich history and heritage. Look out for features on our drivers and other articles. Generally we are going to be more organised, with a more professional image and setup. There’s anew podium backdrop, regular newsletters courtesy of love:mini and there will be some landmark celebrations along the way.
Bill Sollis returns Double Mini Miglia and Se7en champion Bill Sollis is set to make a welcome return to the Miglia grid for rounds one and two at Castle Combe on 28th March. “Mentally I never really left Minis or the Mini 7 Club,” says Bill. “I’d always be checking TSL or Motoring News to see the race results, and I’ve been saying I’d make a comeback for a long time now.” The car I’m using was actually built by Tony Ward in the mid‘90s, around the same time as Peter Vickers’ car. Tony raced it maybe 20 times and I took it

Finally, no anniversary would be complete with some memorabilia to commemorate it, and thanks to Dan Wheeler’s Dread we have some awesome new threads on sale at the circuits and also online. With all of this set for 2016 - it looks like everyone’s in for a really good year - let’s hope the track action is as exciting... it usually is!! Happy 50th Anniversary!!

Mini Se7en News new merchandise range for 2016
T
he Mini 7 Racing Club is pleased to announce a new licencing arrangement. Joining other famous motor sport brands, Dunlop and Honda, the club has teamed up with Dread to create a new, exciting range of merchandising from baseball caps to waterproof track side suits. Alongside the items featuring the contemporary club logo, there are also some alternative products celebrating the original club logo. The plan is to keep the range fresh by adding new products and deleting the less popular items as we go forward. Mike and Alan will carry a few of the items at the circuits, but for the broadest range we would encourage you to think about placing all your orders from the website. Thanks to this arrangement, we can now look forward to a smarter, more Mini 7 branded, paddock in 2016. Finally, a big thank you to Dan Wheeler for his support for the club in launching this new range. Please take a look in the next few days, the range is now available to browse and purchase online. http://www.dread.cc/shop/category/mini_7/

has ambitions to become a full blown street racing venue in future years. In 2016 the BARC will organise a sprint event on its one mile circuit, with three to four runs for each driver each day. It will be a multi-class event and the organisers are looking for around five to six cars across our three formulae. There is no entry fee to consider at this stage, and there may be flexibility to accept more than five to six if it proves popular. Please email Colin on colinmpeacock@hotmail.co.uk if you want to participate. At this stage we need firm commitments only please, not ‘maybes’. https://coventrymotofest.com

he Dunlop2006 10 Years backed series Ago visited the 1.85-mile Wiltshire venue on 1 May for its now regular Monday Bank Holiday fixture. n invite from the BRSCC (SW) to join the Rover Racing Weekend on 14/15 September saw the then Unipart-DCM sponsored Challenges convene for round 10-of-12 in the National series. Another gloriously dry event brought out the crowds and the entries for twin 10-lappers. A whopping 31 cars tried their luck in Miglias, and in an awesome, ding-dong battle, Richard Wager timed his last-lap move to perfection, crossing the line just 0.15s in front of Bill Sollis, with champion-to-be Stewart Drake grabbing
third from poleman Peter Baldwin also on the last lap. In fifth, Ian Curley established a new lap record (1:10.62) for the older 1.84-mile circuit, with Mike Jackson completing the top six, ahead of the likes of Chris Lewis and Myk Cable. David McGuinness was leading novice. Pole position had been the preserve of Rob Selby, but a huge opening lap shunt at Avon Rise brought out the red flags and necessitated a restart, minus Selby. Also missing from the grid were Ben Owen and Mark Sims who had both rolled heavily after a coming together in qualifying, the latter briefly knocked unconscious. In the competitive novice section, Jason Ford got the nod over Paul Woodbridge, although their overall positions were reversed at season end.

here were two visits to Combe, both meetings again run by the BRSSCC (SW), the first on 31 March for National round 2-of-15. From two-dozen 998cc Miglias, the Findus-backed car of Chris Lewis emerged in front after 10 laps of close action around the drying 1.84-mile track, leading home younger brother Jonathan by 0.1s once closest challenger (and Lewis racing teammate) Russell Grady had gone off. The Yorkshire-based duo shared the fastest lap, with the younger having started from pole. Gerald Dale completed the podium, ahead of Driver of the Day John Bailey who rose from 20th on the grid. Graham Chivers (Zanussi ‘Appliance of Science’-backed machine) and Bev Comber completed the leaderboard. In the 850cc Se7ens race Gary Hall emerged in front by 1.3s at the flag, having edged clear of Steve Mole (fastest lap)

Of note in the 22-car entry were Bryan Slark race-testing a customer’s engine, and Tina Cooper in her second season. Hall had set the fastest race lap before retiring from the runner-up spot, likewise DNFs for Jackson and Davis. So wet was the Miglia race later on that the 24-car field was restricted to just five laps, during which time the other brother pairing, Richard and Tim Wager, managed to usurp the top two positions, the former making good use of pole position to keep the spray behind him, and the latter nearly collecting an abandoned car when off-course at one point! Grady had been with the leaders but dropped out, as did Chris Lewis, while best of the rest was Mark Jones (Slark) ahead of Comber, John Davies and Danny Allpress (69 Club). Ben Dutson and Graham Penn came next, with novice of the season Alan Jackson (Mikal Mini) in eighth, Graeme Davis in 10th and Ralph Budd (Costabomb Mini) a DNF among the 25-car entry. On to round 11 and unseasonal wet weather marred the Historic Race Day on 25 August.
