COMMENCEMENT 2010 Loyola University New Orleans cordially invites you and your family to ceremonies honoring the 2010 candidates for graduation from the College of Law. This year, the Graduation Mass will be held on campus in Holy Name of Jesus Church. The commencement ceremony will take place in the Morial Convention Center Conference Auditorium, located along the riverfront in New Orleans’ Warehouse District.

FOR G RADUATION All eligible candidates for graduation will be automatically registered for participation in commencement ceremonies based upon their response on the application for graduation. If your intentions have changed since you applied for graduation, you must notify Kathy Gros in the Office of Student Records at (504) 865-3237 or via e-mail at kgros@loyno.edu before April 9, 2010.
G RAD FAIR Information regarding graduation regalia is available through the bookstore. Costs for regalia (cap, gown, hood, and tassel) are included in the $250 graduation fee. In addition to the cap and gown, which graduates may keep following commencement, this fee includes the graduate’s diploma, diploma cover and lifetime transcripts. The 2010 College of Law Graduate Fair, which is a “one stop shop” for all graduation needs, will be held Wednesday, March 10 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Broadway Activities Center. Students who plan on graduating this May are asked to attend the Grad Fair to order their regalia, a requirement for those participating in the commencement ceremony. Additionally, Grad Fair attendees will be able to verify the status of their graduation application with Student Records and meet with representatives from Financial Aid and the Alumni Association. Personalized graduation announcements, class rings and formal graduation photographs will also be available for purchase. Graduates who are unable to attend the Grad Fair are asked to contact the bookstore at (504) 865-3262 or via email at dhaydel@loyno.edu regarding regalia and announcements. The deadline for ordering regalia and personalized announcements is March 26. This is the absolute deadline. Any regalia orders placed after March 26 will incur a late fee. Regalia will be available for pick up in the dean’s suite May 10 – 11.

G RADUATION MASS The College of Law Graduation Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 11, at 5 p.m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church on the university’s main campus. All graduates and their families are invited to attend.

Candidates participating in the Mass must report to the arcade located on the Thomas Hall side of the Marquette Horseshoe at least 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the service. In accordance with custom, all candidates are required to wear academic caps and gowns without the hoods throughout the ceremony. Official Graduation Mass marshals will be on hand to assist with the procession. When directed, please proceed to the pews on the right or left as indicated and stand facing the center aisle until the celebrants have passed. Families and guests should be seated behind the area reserved for candidates. Seating is first-come, first-served.
MASS PARKING All Loyola parking lots will be open and free of charge on May 11 to accommodate guest parking for the Graduation Mass and Dean’s Farewell Party. Guests may park either in the Marquette Horseshoe, West Road Garage, Freret Street Garage, or the Mercy Hall parking lot. Police officers will be on hand to help direct traffic. Only vehicles with a disabled license plate will be allowed to park in those spaces designated for disabled parking on campus.
D EAN’S FAREWELL PARTY Dean Brian Bromberger will host a reception immediately following the Mass and Graduation Class Photo Tuesday, May 11, on Loyola’s main campus.

LAW C OMMENCEMENT C EREMONY On Wednesday, May 12, 2010, no later than 4 p.m., all candidates for graduation should report, already robed, to the Convention Center Conference Auditorium entrance located at Hall I of the Morial Convention Center, 900 Convention Center Blvd. (See map.) Please do not bring alcohol, cameras, balloons, purses, or other personal items to the graduate entrance. From there, you will be directed to the gathering area for graduates, which is located on the second floor in Rooms 283-284. At the gathering area, graduates will be given instructions regarding the procession and ceremony. Official university ceremony marshals and representatives from the College of Law will be on hand to assist. Candidates for a doctoral degree should wear their tassels on the left throughout the ceremony. 6

After the processional, upon entering their designated rows, candidates should remain standing until all candidates, faculty, and staff have taken their places. The order of proceedings will be printed in the commencement program. The presentation of degrees will be administered by the dean and associate dean who will instruct candidates to rise at the appropriate time. Presiding marshals will direct candidates to proceed from their seats to the stage. As each name is called, the candidates will proceed to center stage and receive their diploma covers from Dean Brian Bromberger and University President Kevin Wm. Wildes, S.J. Candidates are asked not to exit from the center of the stage and should remain standing at their seats until all their fellow graduates have received their diploma covers and the officials have taken their seats. All participants should remain in rank throughout the entire ceremony. The event is scheduled to last approximately one-and-one-half hours. Actual diplomas will be mailed to graduates no later than June 18, 2010.
G UEST ARRIVALS All guests attending the College of Law commencement activities may enter the designated parking areas beginning at 3 p.m. The doors to the Convention Center Conference Auditorium will open at 4 p.m. The processional will promptly begin at 5:45 p.m. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
LAW C OMMENCEMENT PARKING Parking for guests attending the commencement ceremony will be available in the surface parking lots across the street (Convention Center Blvd.) from the Hall I/Conference Auditorium entrance to the Convention Center. The cost for parking is $10 per vehicle and is payable in cash only upon entering the parking facilities.
HANDICAPPED D ROP O FF/PARKING Handicapped drop off is located in the covered driveway in front of Hall I. Handicapped parking is available in the surface lots across the street (Convention Center Blvd.) from the Hall I/Conference Auditorium entrance. HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBILITY/S EATING The Morial Convention Center Conference Auditorium is wheelchair accessible. Handicapped and wheelchair accessible seating is available on the mid-house (MH) level of the auditorium. If you require handicapped seating, please ask Convention Center personnel for directions to the closest available elevator and handicapped seating upon your arrival. The Convention Center does not provide wheelchairs for transportation to and from handicapped seating. For those who require a wheelchair, it will be necessary to bring one with you.
G RADUATION D ISTINCTIONS All candidates for graduation participate without consideration of their final semester grades. Therefore, the commencement program will list distinctions based upon the previous semester grade point average.
LOYOLA STUDENT WITH N O TRANSFER WORK For the cum laude distinction, a student’s cumulative average must be 3.4; magna cum laude, 3.6; and summa cum laude, 3.8.
LOYOLA STUDENT WITH TRANSFER WORK For transfer students, the distinction will be based solely on the Loyola cumulative grade point average. Cumulative average must be 3.4 for the cum laude distinction; magna cum laude, 3.6; and summa cum laude, 3.8.

OFFICIAL COMMENCEMENT PHOTOGRAPHS Official commencement photographers will be on hand at the commencement ceremony to photograph each candidate as they receive their diplomas. Photographs can be viewed and ordered 4 – 5 days after the ceremony at: http://orders.gradphotonetwork.com. Graduates will receive an email once the photos are available on the website, along with their pin number, which will allow them to view their individual portraits. A proof order form will be sent out approximately 1 week to 10 days following graduation. This form may be used to order official photographs by mail or fax. For faster service, order online 24/7.
