You Do Want My Love

Almighty and everlasting God, as I am told, You hold me in the palm of Your hand, and so I come to be. But somewhat puzzled, I confess, how hard it is to feel You present through the thrum of humdrum life. And yet I yearn to cling to You— cannot not yearn—whom I cannot see or touch or tell into Your ear that secret love hisses in me.

I yearn to cling to You in love but cannot find the hold.

Yet You are kind, Lord— You let me live, a smeared and trembling mirror of Your power at work creating yet another man, shining with light and joy but shaking with the holy fear that You do want my love—and always will.

Well, glory be to You, Father, I say, and to You, His Son, in whom I do delight, and to You, their joyous Spirit, and I mean to make this holy shout forever, and now for now. Amen.
