Loyola Library-Tech News October 2013
Celebrate Reading with YALSA’s Teen Read Week
Teen Read Week originated in 1998 to promote reading among teens. Always held in the third week of October, this year’s theme is “Seek the Unknown” to celebrate the more adventurous genres: mystery, fantasy, science fiction and action-adventure. This week, YALSA needs your help! Vote for your favorite 2013 teen titles through October 19th. Vote here!
The library has a new website! Visit http://loyolalibrary.weebly.com for library news, information, reviews, events and contests, and more! The link is posted on the Library-MediaTechnology Moodle page.
Love reading, watching films, or listening to music? Interested in sharing your exceptional taste with the Loyola community? Get involved! See Ms. Schombs to publish your reviews on the library website.
“Seek the Unknown” Events in Your School Library
“Seek the Unknown” Raffle at the Circulation Desk: Enter your name, the title of your favorite mystery / fantasy / sci-fi / adventure book, and tell us why you love it! 3 winners will be chosen at 3pm on Friday, October 18. Prizes are gift cards to Barnes and Noble or iTunes—you choose. YA Book Swap: Spread the reading bug! Bring a book you wish to share to the library on Monday, October 21st to swap for a new read. Book Trailers: Get creative! Using Animoto, iMovie, or another video creation software, create a book trailer for one of your favorite books. A book trailer is just like a movie trailer— provide a sneak peek of the book and tempt others to want to read it. These should be 30 seconds to a minute long. Send the link or video file to Ms. Schombs at jschombs@loyola-nyc.org by Monday, 10/21. Your book trailer will be posted to the library website. Candy prizes to those who submit videos.
New Graphic Novels Find these titles and more on the red GN cart near the fiction section.
