bringing the world’s best music to Akron and NE Ohio
tm Dear friends, Have you noticed Tuesday Musical’s new logo? A globe patterned with music notes, the logo illustrates our focus on bringing the world’s best music to Akron and Northeast Ohio. This ambitious focus has made Tuesday Musical an anchor arts organization in Akron and one of the oldest and most-respected organizations of our kind in the United States. Global greats in our series over the past 130 years have included Vladimir Horowitz, Imani Winds, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Itzhak Perlman, Marilyn Horne, James Galway, Jascha Heifetz, Renée Fleming, Augustin Hadelich, So Percussion, Vienna Boys Choir, Wynton Marsalis, Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, and so many more. Just as important, our vibrant Education and Community Engagement Programs expand access to world-class musicians for students and adults throughout the region— inspiring current and future generations of music lovers. Last season alone, these educational programs reached more than 5,000 people of all ages. This season, expect more great music and musicians from around the world: Quebec’s Les Violons du Roy and Israeli pianist Inon Barnatan, Lawrence Brownlee and Eric Owens, Calidore String Quartet, a “Russian Mastery” program, Canadian Brass, and more. We are thrilled to share uniquely commissioned new music by our inaugural composerin-residence, Gregg Kallor, and also Andrew Norman who is writing a piece for the Escher String Quartet to premiere here — before it premieres at London’s Wigmore Hall and elsewhere. We are committed to programming that is artistically excellent and significant, and we’re looking forward to sharing more of the world’s best with you!
Jarrod Hartzler Executive and Artistic Director Expect great music!

Les Violons du Roy with Anthony Roth Costanzo, countertenor E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall, Akron
Quebec’s favorite Taking its name from the renowned string orchestras of the French kings, Les Violons du Roy is at the heart of the music scenes in Montreal and Quebec City, where it has been in residence at the Palais Montcalm since 2007. Often using copies of period bows, Les Violons du Roy specializes in the vast repertoire of music for chamber orchestra. This concert spans works from Handel to Glass. Vocal heights and depths Two international superstars and good friends join forces for a special duo concert ranging from opera to spirituals. The Chicago Tribune observed that their Lyric Opera performance “had the assembled opera aficionados and newbies all but dancing in the aisles.” From premiering a song cycle centered around black male experiences in America to performing on the stages of the world’s leading opera companies, Lawrence Brownlee has ushered in “a new golden age of high male voices” (New York Times). A Youngstown native, he’s also a champion for autism awareness. Bass-baritone Eric Owens — called an “American marvel” by the Chicago Sun-Times — has created an uncommon niche for himself in the ever-growing body of contemporary opera works. In 2017, Musical America named him its Vocalist of the Year.
