Dummy Book Response The feedback from my dummy book was very helpful since I was struggling with many ideas with layout and text. I included several layout variations and text in different font, colors, and locations to find out which options had the best response. Overall it was well received, but some specific areas received more attention. My chapter “Evolution had the most comments and suggestions from my peer-reviewers. The concept of having chapters in my book was praised in general, but the chapter on evolution had two different layouts for chapter-title pages and two layouts for spread types, and none of it was considered particularly successful. The problem was a the lack of clarity provided by the images as they were presented (no obvious family connection). The great part about that was that I was able to get some ideas on how to really improve that section of the book. I have a new title page for that chapter and a new design layout, and both communicate the concept of generations over time. The text was well received, particularly the inclusion of stories/quotes. I plan to add more throughout the book in different chapters, as long as it has some pertinence to the chapter topic. The text in chapter titles had some problems when black text was used, so the color may change from one chapter to the next in order to increase visibility. I plan to bring some consistency
between the cover of the book and the chapter titles by the placement of the text, but at this time I don’t see any way to unify them through image layout. Images for certain chapter title pages are best presented in specific ways that other images aren’t. Overall, this was a positive and productive exercise that has really improved my book.
