Improve your drilling operations.
Drilling operation integrity assessment During drilling operations, you are faced with the challenge of working efciently and safely – not just today, but also in the long run, achieving an efcient, safe and competitive drilling operation, which requires the right balance between People, Systems and Equipment (PSE).
2 | Lloyd’s Register
Lloyd’s Register can help your organization attain an efcient, safe and competitive drilling asset by optimizing the interaction between these three critical elements; the people, the systems and the equipment. Lloyd’s Register’s PSE assessment and gap analysis provides insight into your risks in these areas and the interfaces between them.
Competency assessments
People, systems and equipment are heavily interrelated. All three elements require equal attention so the right balance between them is achieved. A brand new rig with an incompetent crew will not achieve its targets. Equally, a brand new rig with a top-range asset management system and competent people will not achieve its targets if all three elements do not work together.
Human error accounts for too many drilling accidents. Lloyd’s Register is helping companies identify areas for improvement among their drilling teams through our competency assessments.
Skilled workers are the backbone of any successful drilling program. Lloyd’s Register is taking the lead to help ensure oil and gas workers have the knowledge to operate safely and efciently.
Through self-reports and in-person assessments, Lloyd’s Register determines the knowledge level of critical operational personnel following the methodologies of ISO 10667. This information can be used to shape training programs to help teams operate at their highest level.
Lloyd’s Register competency assessment program can get your company back on track and compliant with government regulations to help you continue with what really matters: drilling as safely and efciently as possible.
Our team evaluates the following: • basic skills, knowledge and workmanship • Technical knowledge • Technical skills • Human factors such as: • Working to procedures • Management capability • Communication and interaction ability • Recognizing and managing poor performance • Maintaining good work culture and attitudes • Documenting maintenance tasks • Instilling a culture of checking and verication

Inspections, surveys and assessments Lloyd’s Register inspection services can help you reduce downtime by improving the reliability, safety and environmental impacts of your drilling programs, so you can continue with what really matters – drilling as safely and efciently as possible.
Compliance survey We can carry out a compliance survey to verify that a drilling unit is fully compliant with relevant local and international safety and operational standards. For contractual matters, a certicate of compliance can be issued on request.
With vast experience in inspecting rigs used in mining, coal seam gas, conventional onshore, geothermal and offshore, we can provide you with an indepth indication of the technical state of your proposed drilling rig.
Value assessment Based on the new prices of major equipment, we apply a methodology recognised by major banks and insurance companies to dene the depreciation percentage of your equipment and provide you with an accurate estimate of your asset value.
Full rig condition survey If you plan to contract a drilling rig or commence a new drilling operation, our full rig condition survey can give you accurate insight into the maintenance and working condition of the equipment and systems on any type of drilling unit. Selection survey We can assist you in the search for a new drilling rig with visual selection surveys, which give you a snap shot of the condition of your short listed rigs, and advise on the best option for your campaign based on your requirements.
4 | Lloyd’s Register
We have inspected more than 90% of the rigs in the world.
Acceptance survey We can conduct an acceptance survey to help you verify your new or refurbished rig is t-for-purpose and complies with the required standards and contractual agreements. The survey is conducted using our acceptance guidelines programme, which includes the testing of all equipment and systems to verify their condition and performance. Dropped-objects survey We can help you increase the safety and reliability of your rig by identifying objects that are at risk of falling from the derrick or other raised structures.
