ome say, “Look forward and keep your eyes fixed on the course ahead.” But, throughout the Scriptures, the Lord pleads with His people to remember the great things He has done. The road behind us is a vivid testimony of His faithfulness. The Little Rock Christian Academy Annual Review is an opportunity to capture His faithfulness and to set our eyes on the course set before us with confidence that He is doing great things and will do even greater things just as He has done over the past 42 years. 2017-18 was a monumental year for our school community. We ran to the name of the Lord; we ran like horses - with enthusiasm, confidence, perseverance, and purpose. Yet, we did not put our confidence in our own horsepower or our accomplishments. We placed our confidence in the Name of the Lord. And, we will continue to do so. As you examine this summary of our stewardship before the Lord, take note of two big deals: • Tuition is directed to salaries and operating costs, providing a value proposition comparable to the best Christian schools in the country that cost even more. • The excellence that our Warriors are experiencing is magnified by hundreds of gifts each year – large and small. Building projects are funded through gifts and not supported with debt. We are so grateful! Thank you for caring about Little Rock Christian.

CORE VALUES

LOVE Have you walked into the elementary this year? When you walk through the door you will see the words, “Welcome to the House of Love.” In 1 Timothy, we are told that the goal of our instruction is love. That love stems from putting others before ourselves. Learning begins with relationships, and relationships are based on love. In elementary, our teachers seek to allow the Lord to love through them in the best interest of their students. The greatest gift we could give a child upon leaving the House of Love, is that they know how very much God loves them, how much we love them and that they love learning. - Ann Chami, Lower School Principal

PARTNERSHIP Through the interview process, the partnership between home and school is established. The home and school agree to cooperate in advance for the mutual interest of the child. As a Christian school, we are an extension of Christ’s church and the Christian home. LRCA is stronger because of this partnership that we refer to as the Golden Triangle. This partnership is especially important in the middle school years. Middle school years are characterized by growth and change, and students have unique emotional, social, spiritual, and academic needs. The home, school, and church working together to teach, understand, and nurture the whole child is critical in helping students navigate middle school. Ecclesiastes 4:12 reminds us that “a cord of three strands is not easily broken.” - LeAnn Murry, Middle School Assistant Principal

ANNUAL REVIEW

TRUTH Truth is defined by a deep sincerity in action, character, and utterance. Within the junior high, our teachers dedicate their lives to actively shaping the lives of early adolescent students...a life stage plagued by fluid friendships, social media pressures, and rapid identity changes. Through all these earthly distractions, our students begin to form a deeper reliance on Jesus. His truth shines through the cloudy cultural pressures placed upon junior high students each day. In Romans, Paul states, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.” We believe that the culture established within the House of Enthusiasm provides a biblical worldview in all content areas. This culture, interwoven with devoted teacher mentors, provides the perfect conditions for renewal of minds. - Tyler Eatherton, Junior High Assistant Principal

EXCELLENCE Excellence is often equated with perfection. However, such a view can be damaging in that it defies a proper understanding of the nature of man and of this world. In contrast, excellence is to be pursued, grounded in our identity in Christ as Peter reminds us, “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us to His own glory and excellence . .” What does excellence look like in the high school? Though it may look different in specific departments and disciplines, there are tenets in teaching and learning that cross the boundaries of excellence in all disciplines. Excellence in the high school is evidenced in authentic teacher/student relationships based on love and respect, deep thinking in all subjects and disciplines, well-planned lessons that are engaging, relevant, and point towards truth, and classes that are rigorous and fair. We continually pursue excellence by helping teachers and students grow and flourish academically, relationally, and spiritually. - Dr. Justin Smith, Upper School Principal ANNUAL REVIEW

“Because you said yes, all of our lives have been transformed.”

L

ori Sawran tells the story of one family, her family, that has been transformed through the LOVE of Jesus Christ because of the faithfulness of the Little Rock Christian Community…its leaders, teachers, parents, students, and partners…

Brett and Rowan Sawran were enrolled in fourth and fifth grades at LRCA in August 2015. Having moved to Little Rock from out of state, Daniel and Lori had noticed the Warrior baseball team praying on the field. The Sawrans’ were not a typical family desiring a Christian school; however, they soon found themselves surrounded by a community who was committed to providing the children with a challenging education and saturating them in truth. Their family was changed forever when, through the warm embrace and faithfulness they experienced, Daniel was finally able to see and recognize a difference in those who believe and follow Jesus Christ. Daniel accepted Christ as his personal Savior, and their family was transformed through the power of the Holy Spirit. The Sawrans’ credit a multitude of teachers, coaches, friends, and leaders at LRCA, as well as Fellowship Bible Church, for embracing and loving their family. Daniel and Lori were married on March 3, 2018, surrounded by their new community.

a letter from Cin dy McL eod, Dir ec tor of A dva ncem en t Dear Friends, Wow! What a year. It’s been proven again and again for over 40 years – Warriors Give! The power of that giving started a school in 1977 with a mission that remains the same today. Then, at the turn of this century, Warriors gathered in a circle to pray on land that would be built into the current campus of Little Rock Christian Academy. And, Warriors continued to give. We have experienced this year the joy of philanthropy. A spirit that can only be explained by the goodness and sovereignty of the living God who works in the hearts of His people to accomplish His purpose. In this newly styled Annual Review, I hope you sense the impact of your gifts. You may have given toward tuition assistance to allow students to learn and pursue truth. Or possibly you’ve given to Warrior Blitz to provide for new engineering curriculum or an Octoball Pit. Your passion for teachers may have inspired you to give toward their continued professional development. Your gifts, no matter the size, are building LRCA. But, more importantly, your gifts are developing Warriors. Yes, we have experienced a tremendous year of Annual Fund and capital giving. Students are enjoying the provision of remodeled spaces and a new Indoor Athletic Training Facility. As we circled once again to pray over the campus at the grand opening of the new building, we declared our belief that God is in the business of changing lives. The work of preparing young people for a beautiful future continues. THANK YOU FOR GIVING! Cindy McLeod Director of Advancement

Little Rock Christian Academy is RISING to new heights‌literally.

W

ith an unforeseen level of philanthropy from anonymous donors who believe in the mission and have a desire to strengthen programs for our students, the Indoor Athletic Training Facility opened in August 2018. Its size is visually noticeable to the greater Little Rock community. Its space provides protected training areas for football, soccer, wrestling, cheer, baseball, band and PE classes. With the addition of offices, meeting spaces and a Warrior Store, the overall impact of the facility touches current families and alumni while appealing to prospective Warrior families. Construction on Warrior Arena, Phase II of Warriors Rising, has begun, and it is scheduled to open for the 2019-2020 basketball season. This 1,500-seat competition arena promises to host exciting basketball games. Also largely funded by anonymous donors, Arena construction begins with no incurred debt. Contributions to Phase II will provide for innovative classroom and lab spaces in that structure, adjacent to the high school. High on the hill at the north side of campus lies 18 acres, also donated to LRCA for expanding educational space as we move into the next decade. The Board of Trust is praying, researching and seeking wisdom regarding the timing and plan for Phase III of Warriors Rising. The blessing of these magnanimous gifts has set in place broad borders and a promising future for current students and generations to come. Indeed‌God has provided a magnificent campus!

imilar to Warrior athletes, the Warrior Club, is committed. This athletic booster club relentlessly pursues the goal of supporting 38 junior high and high school athletic teams and four competitive spirit squads. Little Rock Christian athletes are trained to strive for excellence and do the most with what God has given them. Warrior Club works to provide the equipment and facilities that these athletes need. Volunteerism, branding, spirit, encouragement, caring, planning, funding, and a fantastic golf tournament are all part of Warrior Club’s game plan. They encourage athletes and coaches, celebrate the victories, and partner with the school to develop men and women of God. It’s not all fun and games. Warrior Club is serious about funding the equipment and facilities that make LRCA a top competitor in numerous sports. Money raised through Warrior Store sales, the annual spring golf tournament, concessions, ticket sales, sponsorships, and the sale of advertising spaces at athletic facilities all goes back into the needs of athletes of all ages. Committed…Christ-centered…Competitive. Leaders who serve the team, school and community. It’s the Warrior Way.

PTF - PARTNERSHIP IN ACTION

T

he Parent Teacher Fellowship partners with Little Rock Christian to continually better the school for learning and growth. PTF encourages fellowship and supports families by hosting various activities throughout the year. School-wide events bring all age groups together, while building-specific endeavors are tailored toward age-appropriate interests. Classrooms are stocked and faculty encouraged throughout the year. Teachers and staff enjoy delicious meals beginning with professional development meetings in August, and continuing on through Christmas and February’s Teacher Appreciation emphasis. Common areas of all buildings and Warrior Hall also benefit from the enhancements provided by PTF. In 2017-18, PTF funded over $109,000 in professional development, curriculum and equipment for education. They also participated in the renovation of the high school food service area, the purchase of a school bus, and several other items. Fundraisers such as Warrior Blitz, Wild about Warriors, Kroger cards, Box Tops for Education, and Amazon Smile, as well as corporate sponsorships, make available the funds for PTF’s budget. Partners are much more than volunteers. They are truly extraordinary! True partners like PTF come alongside faculty and leadership to own the challenges and victories of educating students Pre-K through 12th grade.

LINDA CASSTEVENS - GARY B. ARNOLD ENDOWMENT FUND

J

ohn and Amy Daniel are parents to four Warriors: Alex (2010), Regan (2012), Cole (2014) and Cade (2019). Excellent education is a core value for the Daniel family. Supporting teachers is a passion for Amy and John.

They have witnessed a master teacher in action for years. Linda Casstevens, Amy’s mom and an elementary teacher in Texas, has dedicated her talent and skill to the development of hundreds of students. In honor of Linda, and with a desire to equip Little Rock Christian Academy faculty with the requisite skills for the challenges of 21st century teaching, John and Amy have invested financially to establish the Linda Casstevens - Gary B. Arnold Endowment Fund. The interest from this endowment will provide professional development and support for faculty. They also hope that it will inspire other Endowment gifts toward this goal. “We hope that this is an initiative for other people to come on board and support our teachers and the investment they make in our young people.” – John Daniel

LRCA B oa r d of Trust Dear Warrior Family, What a difference a few short years makes! Just look back at pictures of your children from two or three years ago. It is really quite amazing to watch a young person grow up – in their appearance, their ability, their faith, their judgment, awareness, responsibility, and sensibility (some faster than others!). Some phases of this transformation seem to happen rapidly while others move more methodically. The same is true of our school. Just take a quick look around the campus. How quickly was our physical appearance changed by the blessing of the recently completed Indoor facility? Just as important, changes in curriculum, teaching methods (including experiential learning) and resources are being added consistently to create the most conducive learning environment for your student. Your contributions to the Annual Fund are fueling new initiatives and making a difference in LRCA’s pursuit of excellence in all aspects of the educational process. With the rapid pace of change in the world today, your Board of Trust is continually mindful of the need to both plan for the needs of the school today and to prepare for the school of tomorrow. The process is challenging and exciting. Not a board meeting goes by where we don’t thank the Lord for His blessing on this school and ask for His guidance and wisdom for the days of change ahead. Thank you for your support for Little Rock Christian Academy and its mission. It is truly a great time to be a Warrior! Partnering in His service, Tommy Vaughan Chairman, Board of Trust
