a word from tbe EDITOR Hello Key Clubbers! I hope your summer '19 has been everything you have hoped it would be— whether that may be racking up on service hours, studying for the SAT, or relaxing on a tropical vacation. Whatever your summer may consist of, I hope it is full of activities that you love. Speaking of activities, prepare yourselves for the month of June because we have lots in store! Be on the lookout for incoming socials (especially for you boba lovers!) and more. As always, if you have yet to sign up for our remind, it will be on the contact information page at the end of the newsletter. KICKING OFF SUMMER BY: ETHAN VU, JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVE

It’s almost been one month since school has ended and I know summer can get pretty boring when you’re not constantly bombarded with projects, assignments, and the everlasting need to be your class valedictorian. But there’s something you can do to fill your schedule and no, it’s not hanging out with your friends or being on your phone all day; it’s being a part of Key Club and bettering the lives of those in your own community! At first glance when your hear volunteering you think, “Isn’t that just free labor?” and in a way, you’re right. But it’s so much more than that because you do get paid for it. You get paid back with the smiles of those you’ve helped and the sense of accomplishment after you’ve done something to back the world a better place. During summer, our community still needs our service even after the school year is over. You can still help out at Allies in Youth or Feed the Kids every week in order to give back to the community and make someone else’s life a little bit better. Even if you don’t want to volunteer at the same places every week, there are still many things you can do to help out like the summer camps at Oliver Nature Park or by simply just picking up litter you see around the

community. Helping someone out or just the community in general doesn’t have to be some extravagant thing that takes time to plan out. Just do what you can to help out and you’ll still feel good after knowing you made the world a better place. Despite volunteering, there are still many other ways to take part of Key Club while not volunteering quite yet. Over the summer, Key Clubs from around the district have planned various activities in order to bond with new officers or recruit new members even. This can range from Legacy’s Zumba classes every Wednesday to the District Council Meeting’s recent Slip-N-Slide Kickball tournament. During these activities, club members are able to meet other Key Clubbers from around their district and learn about ways to make their own Key Club even better, or just having a fun time in general! So with the last two months of summer approaching, go out and help your community. Just know it doesn’t have to be something big or small because any amount helps out your community! Just remember the Key Club motto, “Caring – Our way of Life.”
