As the beginning of school emerged, services started resuming and a freshman orientation would soon be held. An opportunity arose for our Key Club to meet up and recruit new faces for Key Club! Our freshman orientation would be held on August 3rd and was titled
“Eaglet Camp.” Before the event, it was important that our club had an updated trifold and presented updated information in an aesthetically pleasing way.
Leading up to Eaglet Camp, we all decided to meet up for a social at Market Street Mansfield in order to eat, create posters, and hang out with one another. We worked diligently to create an informative yet captivating trifold. It was important for us to cooperate in order to agree upon formatting, information, and workload distribution but in the end, it was a bonding experience for our officers Our trifold was made, general ideas were shared, and we were ready for the day to come
On the day of Eaglet Camp, we were to give tours, answer questions, and share information about extracurriculars and clubs. Although it was quite chaotic due to the lack of information given to us by the administration, we gathered our groups and started exploring the school. Walking around the school and watching the freshmen take in the building for the first time reminded me of my previous year and how clueless I was entering high school It was interesting to talk to my new peers about their interests, worries, and ideas and how they compared to mine
Eventually, it came time to walk through all of the booths created by the different clubs and extracurriculars at our school. UIL Academics, Choir, Youth and Government, Yearbook, Bowling, and of course, Key Club! Our trifold was set up, most of our board was wrapped around providing information and flyers, and the entire hallway echoed with voices. At one point, there was a shouting contest among the clubs in order to try and attract more students. The most important thing achieved at this event though was getting students and parents to ask themselves a question, “What is Key Club?” This question creates curiosity and the presence of Key Club in their minds While the event was short lived, it was an important part of increasing bonds between our board and increasing prominence among the new students Meeting new people, seeing more perspectives, seeing our board, and recruitment created a great time for everyone involved.

Webmaster (2021 2022) & Current Vice PresidentAlthough I have been on the officer board since my sophomore year, I did not know much about Kiwanis. Maybe it was because our club was in the process of recovering from Covid, but we did not interact with them that much. With this, we made it a goal to increase our interactions with them.
One of the ways that we did this was by attending Kiwanis meetings every Friday at Market Street. However, this was not always the easiest because the meetings were held at 7 AM. However, our officers still made the effort to attend them. When we arrived, we were met with the smiling faces of the Kiwanis members After intermingling for a few minutes, we headed to the free breakfast buffet. After that, we found our seats, and the meeting commenced. At the last meeting we attended, the Superintendent of our school district was there as a keynote speaker. Additionally, the principals of all of the high schools attended the meeting as well. During this, we learned about the school procedures for the upcoming year. She also talked about her journey of becoming the Superintendent. Even though that may not sound the most interesting, I looked up to her because she spoke of how she was in her junior year of college, yet she did not know which career path to take.
I found this admirable because something that I have been struggling with is figuring out what I want to do in the future. She was the same as me, yet she was able to find a career that she enjoys and is successful in. This helped me realize that you do not always have to have a plan. You may be struggling to figure out what you want to do or how your life will go, but in the end, it will all be okay It is never too late to go after your dreams, and it is okay for your dreams to change over time. I feel as if this was a strange thing to think about at 7 AM, but I appreciated it because it was able to ease my mind.
In all, although we cannot attend the meetings anymore because the school year has started, we will continue to interact with the Kiwanis Club of Mansfield. I went to that meeting not really expecting much, but it ended up helping me a lot
