NOT IN MY NAME Why should The Hague condemn Orbán? Lőrincz Csaba The Hungarian government plans some risky changes in the law on 15th September. This allows handling the so called migration crisis as a threat to national security. Accordingly, the question arises: Why are those migrants arrested in our country if they mean a threat? However, those law amendments provides the opportunity to punish those, who try to help the migrants. Isn’t it suspicious? Let’s see how takes its effect on a larger period of time. 2nd September The Keleti (eastern) railway station, where the refugees had a transit zone closed unexpectedly. This means that displacing thousands of refugees, who only wished to travel to Western Europe. How interesting, that the Station cancelled all departing trains? 3rd September A train full of refugees went from the re-opened Keleti railway station. The destinations were Szombathely and Graz. Somehow, when the train arrived to Bicske’s Station, not less than hundred police officers forced the travellers to get off the train. A positioned defensive formation stood among the refugees and the train with those, who had not gotten off. On the other hand, water was not available on the train. The refugees begged for water. How could it be on unventilated overcrowded wagons? Was it a mistake, or a well-disguised deportation? Familiar isn’t it? 4th September – The wick already burns As the country was ‘a dark stack’ of refugees, the Hungarian-Romanian match was still held. Why is it interesting? When the football is no more, than a riot covered by a sport event, the question arises: Was it absolutely necessary to take that risk of vandalism? The so called ultras have already shown, how they ’celebrate’. And they also have shown, how they relate to refugees. It was an unnecessary risk-taking under the circumstances, wasn’t it? And the government gave permission, to hold the match. It was pure luck that the vandals didn’t prowled. However, seventeen policemen were injured that night, cars were set on fire as in 2006. 5th September – Without borders?
’At dawn because of intentional unpreparedness of the government the Schengen rules had to be suspended and it could be only handled with the Informal opening of the HungarianAustrian border.’ said the political scientist, Miklós Sükösd. Without the organized procedure of registration Austria had to assume additional risk. Only because of the Hungarian government’s misconduct. Orbán should have known what to do, but instead, he plays ‘Russian roulette’ with the refugees, his own country, and the whole of Europe. A potential motive 2006 was an interesting year. As published information of Wikileaks suggests: Orbán was related to the violent groups. This answers the question why refugees were detained for such a long time! A provoked clash would create an excellent opportunity to advertise a state of emergency. The so called ’poster campaign’ written in Hungarian, confirms this suspicion. Those messages on a lesser-spoken language assume other political will: The incitement to fuel xenophobic sentiments. In this case, the target group is different: the Hungarian people. Such a morbid lab experiment, where refugees and citizens are no more than test subjects. Bizarre additions to the story, the unfortunate girl's case, who was attacked by a prison guard in Szeged (18th July). The motive was that the prison guard thought that her boyfriend is an immigrant. A convincing evidence: The Human Resources Department's Deputy Secretary of State (International and European Affairs) Gergely Prőhle recognized: ’Hungarian society is enormous solidarity with the refugees, and if the campaign posters would have been meaningful impact on Hungarian society, this would not be the case.’ (link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyBbq96mKXk) Political and media rhetoric In terms of politicians and the press communications the phenomenon is referred to as immigration crisis. The term is associated with the pejorative meaning, what the campaign posters suggest. Only the stubborn civil volunteers refer refugees. The fact that they are persecuted in their home countries does not get attention. The Hungarian Catholic Church As the situation of the refugees became critical, Péter Erdő, the Cardinal of Budapest Esztergom said that „if the Church accepts these refugees, they would become (human) smugglers or traffickers”. In the light of the expressed and contrary intent of the Archbishop of Vienna, the refusal position of the Hungarian Church is unclear.
Some religious groups denied Erdő’s position. /Personal comment: I lived my life in the strong conviction that complies with the wrong law is also a crime. Therefore I can’t understand the position of the Cardinal. This mistake – staying idle, when a government restricts the free movement of a people regardless any kind of their affiliation – has been committed once by the Church./ Fidesz and Jobbik The Jobbik is nothing else then the government’s lightning conductor. The essence of their hate campaigns are transplanted consecutively in the Government’s program. Demonization of the concept of liberal, promoting anti-Semitism, accusations of communism and of high treason. And the most important: systematic disregard for human rights. There is no chance to resist. The role of authorities in the persecution of civilians It has been a sort of crusade against the known members of government critic civil society groups. While on the other hand proceedings against members of the government ended without substantive results. As the disregard of the Human Rights is demonstrated. The Hungarian Armed Forces Although, the change of law is not in effect yet, every barracks commanders are assigned to return. Vacations were cancelled. This information came from a trusted source. Of course it is a routine procedure, but the context makes it suspicious. Where the democracy collapsing It is only a matter of time before the country becomes a hermetically sealed shell full of people deprived their rights. Refugees and citizens. This is confirmed by a former statement of the Prime Minister: „This is the last time, when the ’regime changer’ right wing is fought against the post communist left wing. The victory of the Fidesz is finally cut the constant existing structures. I mean that 25 years of my life for this fight. So that it was the time that I with the Fidesz forever entrench our powers without elections and do not have to defend it anymore.” /Viktor Orbán 13th October 2013. Visegrád/ (link to the Hungarian article: http://www.origo.hu/itthon/20130912-orban-25-eves-almabeteljesuleset-latja.html) The forethought has been demonstrated. NOT IN MY NAME
This generated and well timed crisis is our last chance to show the civilized world, that we are not on the same side with our government, with Orbán. Civil volunteers, students, nurses, journalists, pensioners, jobseekers, disabled people, working abroad Hungarians just a few of the groups who disagree with Orbán’s rampage. Not in my name, not in our name. We would like to ask those Western European politicians, who are ready for it, to help us bring Orbán to The International Court in The Hague. We are prisoners of our own country but others certainly do not deserve to share our failure. If we would try to resist, we would be drifting into a Civil War inevitably.
