Position Statement
The performance is a mutual adaptation process between landscape architecture and users. It can be seen as the function of the landscape. There is one thing that diverse materials can change the environment feelings in different situation, which may improve the perception and affect. The situation takes many different experience to users.Through investigating the site ACCA, one interesting finding is the same materials cause the different body feelings when it expose in sunshine or in the rain. For example, sand pavement becomes warm when it under the sun shine, people may feel warm or hot. Being compared to it, when the sand expose to the rain, the temperature is low, people’s body feeling is so cold. Another main point is space organization. One example is Guggenheim museum Bilbao. Contemporary artists produce outdoor installations on site to cope with the space of the Frank Gehry building. This makes the whole site not only focus on the exhibition and collection of art flat, but also enables artists to have more space to create works of art and make full use of outdoor landscape space.

The performance is a quest for a landscape architecture design process. The notion can be seen as the form change of the landscape exterior appearance. By consulting the data, the concept of the overall design of ACCA is to simulate the desert environment. Therefore, the main landscape materials are mainly sand, and the overall form is simple, without too much decoration. There only are three installation in the square. To compare with that, Guggenheim museum Bilbao is different. In the outdoor space, there are different materials of pavement, and two ponds surrounding the building. There also have many installations. However, the landscape only show the design and art, but do not have any meaning. As far as I am concerned, the function of the landscape is as important as it’s beauty. Function is an important part of the connection between the landscape and the user. It should pay attention to the feelings and needs of the people as much as possible. Meanwhile, the design of landscape also need to flow some aesthetic principle. As aesthetic will change with the times, new form of the landscape can keeping up with the times to attract more people's attention. For example, the Guggenheim museum Bilbao represents the deconstructionism architecture, which has wild curving lines. The landscape around the building link the same style with the building and the application of different paving materials and the change of terrain played a good role in guiding tourists. The new form help the new museum attract more visitors and artists, and also make it become the most famous design in the world. However, ACCA's design is not that compelling. Although it uses geometric line elements in its architecture, it is too bland on the landscape and there are no significant features to attract tourists' attention. In addition, the huge square without any change may easy to make visitors lose direction.

After the research and design projects are based on these three principles. Venusta means the beauty, which should consider about the spatial and aesthetic. Firmitas is about the durability, which base on the materials and building soild. Utilita is functionality, which respons to the user's demonds.

Architecture & Landscape Through the investigation of the site, the site quality is analyzed from the three principles of Vitruvius.
Venusta: The structure and landscape structure is mainly geometric straight line, sharp and strong sense of structure. The dark red of the building and the bright yellow of the pavements are visually contrasted, with a strong sense of visual impact.
Firmitas: The main material of the paving is sand, it is not fixed, it will move with the wind, or move with the step of the pedestrian.
Utilita: The square in front of the stadium is open and lacks some

Site Analysis

ACCA is located in Melbourne southbank, near the university of melbourne sothbank campus, and also near the NGV.
University of art and NGV provide provide a strong art ambience for ACCA. ACCA can provide more out door space for out door exhibitions or other art relater activities. The City of Melbourne is enhancing its streets and laneways by upgrading roads and footpaths, landscaping and other improvements. The enhancements will ensure our streetscapes are safe, attractive and prepared for projected population growth.

The first impression for the site must be empty and expose. Bright color pavement and building surface can not attract people' eyes. People go through the site and no one stay for a long time.
Mapping analysis
We collected the data for temperature, noise and wind condition. And also record our body feelings in defferent wheather condition. Through analysis the mapping and evaluate our body feelings, we find that the area will easy to effect by weather. Under the sun, it is hot and dry while in teh rainy day, it is cold and wet. This situation cause people feel uncomfortable.

That may be the reason why there only have little out exhibition or outdoor activities for people.

‘Misty’ have two meaning. One is microclimate, add mist means increase humidity, which provide different micro-climate experience in the site. Another meaning is visual performance, fog create misty feeling for the site, which provide changeable view for the site. Topic: My research question is “How to change atmosphere effect people's activities?” The purpose is that change materials and topographic to create different micro-climate condition in the same area, and provide more experience to people. Significant: The site’s original micro-climate is dry, open and easy to be effected by weather. On the other hand, there are not many activities happen in the out door space. Thus, increasing humidity and using topographic add more shade can certainly change the micro-climate condition, which provide more chance for people stay in the out door space. Different constructer form of materials create more space for people stay and enjoy the site. Outcome: The temperature will decrease in the high humidity and shade area, in the hot summer, it can attract more people stay. In the winter, the fog have high density, which create misty view. However, humidity make the side become colder, people may choose to move rather than stay.

Fog Fog as an atmosphere material will ues in the site. Fog can help to improve the air humidity. In hot summer, fog can help reduce the tempure. In winter, fog will cover moer area cause different view and experience to people. There aer three main way creat fog, one is released from vegetations. Another one is rain water evaporation. Last one is launched by mist device.

Fog density will change in different weather condition. The wind will blow up the fog. During the windy day and rainy day, the fog have low density, the view becomes clear.

Materials
The main material of the site is mainly sand, and sand is easy to change the temperature with the change of climate. Therefore, replace the use of sand in some areas with materials such as wood and concrete that are difficult to change the surface temperature. Hard materials like timber and concrete provide more chance to build different form of space and structure. Soft materials like grass provide more possible for microclimate. Sand keep the original surface quility of ACCA. The combination of materials provides many possibilities for the function and form of the site, enriching the user's experience in the site.

Timber have low thermodynamic constant, thus the surface is hard to change with weather. People can find more place to stay.

The photographs are experiments that report on potential futures ahead, ones that do not fall along the false dichotomy presented in the media that earth can only be preserved or destroyed. The work instead embraces the belief that for humanity to live sustainably and responsibly, earth’s environments, as well as the human body, will just have to artificially evolve together. Through photographs of physical stage models, Lally’s work speculates on the shapes and aesthetics of space including the social and political dynamics that will emerge when both the design of the environment and the human body are recognized as necessarily elastic for humanity to move forward. I prefer to learn the concept and methord about using fog the creat the atmosphere. 56
The ambition of our project is to give back the outdoors to the inhabitants and visitors by proposing to create exterior spaces where the excesses of the subtropical warm and humid climate of Taichung are lessened. This project for me is a good example to show how to creat different atmosphere in same place and how different atmosphere effect people's activities and feeling. In addition, the analysis methord also is something I want to learn.
THE WEATHER PROJECT
THE WEATHER PROJECT James Turrell
The project, which ran for six months and reportedly attracted two million visitors, consisted of monofrequency lights, projection foil, haze machines, mirror foil, aluminium and scaffolding. Members of the audience could walk through a space permeated with a mist of sugar and water, lit by a huge yellow-orange disc.
James Turrell’s Bridget’s Bardo uses the Ganzfeld effect – experienced when looking at a structureless field of vision – together with spatial control and coloured light to produce potentially unsettling experiences that demonstrate the ways in which human perception is faulty.
