Branding for the build environment
EGD helps define how people experience, understand, navigate, and interact with their environment.
Experiential graphic design conveys information and messaging in an engaging and memorable way; no matter how great a message, if it is presented to you in a language you do not speak, the message is lost. Experiential graphic design plays a vital role in bridging the gap between the built environment and the project mission. Our team facilitates the connection between people and places through placemaking, storytelling and wayfinding.
LS3P offers full in-house Experiential Graphic Design (EGD) services which include branding and graphics
integrated with the architectural and interior design. When EGD is incorporated into the project from the beginning, our team can help design the mission of the space from the earliest stages of the project. We embrace a holistic approach to branding and graphics which will integrate with the interior design, architecture, and program to communicate your unique vision and culture.
what are experiential graphics?
Our overarching and hands-on design approach capitalizes on existing cultural assets of the building’s end users as the inspiration, with the intention of creating spaces that promote social and environmental wellbeing.
Experiential Graphic
Design activates, informs, and organizes the way we live, work, play, & learn.
simplify
Through EGD, we can provide solutions to large spaces such as K-12 campuses or hospitals by creating an intuitive wayfinding system which minimizes the need for an overly complicated signage package. This strategy creates a cost benefit for clients while making the space intuitive, efficient, and welcoming.
reduce cost
Applied wall graphics are also cost-efficient options for creating experiences within our spaces, especially if the client is already considering a standard wallcovering.
The investment a client makes in the added cost of custom graphics is invaluable in the functionality and experience it provides to their user’s experience.

TO MOVE...
Wayfinding is an alternative and holistic approach to traditional signage, conveying information through concept, theme, or mood of the space. Simple additions of carefully designed wayfinding strategies create an allencompassing sense of place for the user while helping them navigate through the space.
TO TELL...
A significant common thread across all cultures is the practice of storytelling. Stories have the ability to relay history, create empathy, and convey a vision.
Through storytelling, we first determine the driving vision and values of the project, and design visual aids to tell that story. We focus in on the visitors’ journey and direct them within the space through the collaboration of the design team (architecture + interiors), creating a sense of place and setting the tone for an immersive experience within the space.
TO ARRIVE...
Feeling welcome and having a sense of belonging is not innate. Our mission is to help build a connection from the values and mission of the people who own the building or space to the people who will inhabit it.
EGD is a way to create a sense of arrival and inform placemaking. Placemaking is how we connect people to place and create a sense of “you are here”
Our Experiential Graphics team works hand-in-hand with the design team from start to finish.
We will hold a Graphics kick-off to meet with you and our project team to understand you as a brand, your building, and needs.
We work closely with the architectural and interior design team to ensure that the graphics package is fully integrated and responding to the built environment.
what is the process?
educational opportunitues
Experiential graphics can inform our users about the purpose, vision, or intention of their environment. It can be used to tell the history of the namesake of a building or pay homage to a building’s nearly 100 year history or even a scavenger hunt of interesting facts on a wall graphic for elementary students to find.

Complex environments rely heavily on wayfinding. For example, healthcare campuses and facilities create a unique set of challenges for wayfinding as they are often large and include multiple buildings. A wayfinding system that incorporates the use of visual cues such as color and symbols allows patients, family, and staff to find and travel to their destinations within the building easily. This is a critical component in the patient experience as they’re often under stress. Creating a simple and intuitive wayfinding system relieves stress on the patient, visitors and directly impacts the patient experience.

navigating spaces
Easily understood and intuitive wayfinding systems are essential to our environment as they allow users to easily navigate and understand their space. This is achieved through the use of signage, color, text, and imagery.

Through wayfinding the vision was to create a system of navigation that was based on the values of DHHS, which are centered around individualized, holistic health. The look and feel needed to remain mature, exciting, and memorable to serve both purposes.

Broadstone Optimist Park is a multifamily development in Charlotte, NC. Its path from the garage, down the breezeway, and through to the leasing office provides a visual wayfinding to lead potenital tenants down. The design also continues to the exterior with a large wall mural of steel workers on scaffolding and plays with the releif lines in the precast.
