“LSBM is a wonderful place to study, located in one of the most beautiful areas of London. Class sizes are also quite small which has made it easier to have a better relationship with my teachers and other students. My teachers have been very friendly and supportive in my academic journey. I feel privileged to study somewhere that invests so much in its students.

Welcome to the London School of Business and Management We are a specialist institution located in Bloomsbury, the academic heart of London, delivering full-time undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in Business, Accounting and Financial Management, and Law. In October 2015, we underwent a Higher Education Review by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) and received a commendation for the enhancement of student learning opportunities. Since that time LSBM has undergone two further monitoring visits by the QAA in September 2016 and September 2017, both of which recognised our ongoing achievements. Our outstanding National Student Survey (NSS) results from August 2017 further confirmed the progress LSBM has made, with overall satisfaction levels of over 95% among our students. All our degrees are currently awarded by our academic partner, the University of Northampton.

London School of Business and Management

Welcome

Our partnership with the University of Northampton, and our agreements with Birkbeck College, University of London (where our classes are taught) and University of London (Student Central), put us in a unique position to make it possible to provide our students with a high-quality ‘university experience’ with significant individual support. I have 20 years of experience as a UK university academic; my previous position was Head of the School of Law and Professor of Law at Birmingham City University (2009-2011). All our academic staff have higher degrees (including PhDs) together with practicebased experience to add a real-world dimension to our students’ academic studies. We are committed to the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) which is a government initiative designed to showcase and raise teaching standards in higher education. John Fairhurst BA Pg Dip MPhil MBA Solicitor SFHEA Managing Director and Academic Principal

We also undergo regular independent monitoring by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) to verify our high standards, most recently in September 2017. The results of the 2017 National Student Survey (NSS) were released on 9 August 2017 and LSBM were delighted to have among the highest levels of overall satisfaction among our students of any higher education institution in the UK. We also place research at the core of our learning paradigm to bring the very latest techniques and study strategies for the benefit of our students. The Higher Education Academy (HEA) is the national body for enhancing learning and teaching in higher education. LSBM is a strategic institutional subscriber to the HEA and 90% of our permanent academic staff are Fellows or Senior Fellows of the HEA. Our student body is culturally diverse. We put students at the heart of our decision-making processes by ensuring student membership on our academic committees. Our Student Representatives are key to our development as an institution.

Outstanding teaching The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) is a government initiative that aims to improve and recognise high teaching standards in higher education. LSBM has always been a progressive institution of higher education that is dedicated to continually raising the bar on its teaching standards. We were commended by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) in October 2015 for the enhancement of our students’ learning opportunities. They also highlighted the wide range of effective support mechanisms at LSBM that enable students to realise their academic and personal potential. The goals of the TEF, to improve teaching standards and highlight areas of good practice, are very much in tune with our own ongoing philosophy of constant enhancement. The framework has been designed to assess higher education institutions against criteria including drop-out rates and progression to highly skilled employment. It is part of the government’s plans for raising standards in higher education and aims to give students more information so that they can make the most informed decisions when deciding which university to attend.

In addition to a general goal of raising teaching standards, the TEF is also designed to provide clear, understandable information to students about where teaching quality is outstanding.

We are pleased to be able to share that the TEF Year Two Outcomes were announced in June 2017 and that LSBM was awarded a TEF Year Two Provisional award (the highest award we were eligible to receive). Participation in the Teaching Excellence Framework is voluntary, and LSBM are proud to have placed ourselves in the spotlight alongside other far-sighted institutions of higher education who also look forward to having their high teaching standards assessed and recognised. We embrace the aims of the TEF and look forward to continually striving to improve teaching standards in higher education.

“I’m so proud to be a student here at LSBM - I have made so many special friends. I feel like I’m part of one big family. Our teachers really care and go out of their way to help us. They are always available to help answer questions and are generous with their time.”

Exceeding expectations The Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) is an independent body that is entrusted with advising on and monitoring standards and quality in UK Higher Education. One of its principal activities is visiting Higher Education (HE) institutions across the UK, assessing standards and then publishing its findings. This ensures that potential students can read an impartial and independent review of the institutions in which they are interested, before making an informed decision. In October 2015, we underwent a full review by the QAA, which was published in January 2016, and were proud not only to meet expectations in all areas, but also to be commended for our good practices in the enhancement of student learning opportunities. It is worth pointing out that good practice commendations for the enhancement of student learning opportunities are relatively rare. Out of 164 institutions who had undergone a QAA Higher Education Review and had their report published on the QAA website, only 21 had been commended for the enhancement of their student learning opportunities.* We are one of these 21, which places us in the top 12.8% of institutions with regards to enhancement. LSBM has undergone two further monitoring visits by the QAA in September 2016 and September 2017, both of which recognised our ongoing development.

The latest QAA report (September 2017) reached the following conclusions:

“The team found that LSBM has continued to make commendable progress building on the features of good practice identified in the October 2015 review visit, and that all recommendations had been met with further improvements implemented since the 2016 visit. You can read the report in full on the QAA website here: www.qaa.ac.uk/reviews-and-reports/ provider?UKPRN=10004061 LSBM provides extensive support for the continuing professional development (CPD) of its staff, with all academic staff being supported to become Fellows or Senior Fellows of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). Good teaching practice is identified and shared both through the Teaching and Learning Forum (TLF) and at the annual Teaching and Learning Conference that LSBM has held every year for the last seven years. At an institutional level, the active commitment to CPD is reflected in an extensive range of staff opportunities that include Research Seminars, an eLearning Reading Group, the Teaching and Learning Conference, and over 30 in-house CPD events annually. *as of 21 January 2016

13

LSBM has invested in EvaSys® software to conduct a range of sophisticated surveys on the quality of teaching and learning and to inform further improvements. The Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) also highlighted in a case study that the benefits for students of these measures are demonstrated at the London School of Business and Management by the positive feedback gained through module evaluation questionnaires and meetings of the Student Staff Consultative Forum. In August 2016 The Times Higher Education (THE) website commented:

Sintique Brito Law student

“I wanted to study law at LSBM because they offered a Qualifying Law Degree, in central London, with unique advantages like the CILEx accreditations. LSBM has outstanding student support services and studying law in central London is a wonderful experience. Having lived and studied in various other countries, I can really appreciate the high-quality support at LSBM.”

‘The QAA says that successful reviews of the London School of Business and Management… show that new providers “can, and do, add to the richness of the higher education sector”.’ www.lsbm.ac.uk/headline/ news_detail/62 This richness and high level of student satisfaction is a key component of the educational experience at LSBM that we have been very proud of over the years. We are glad to have our efforts in contributing to a positive academic and social experience highlighted both by the independent Quality Assurance Agency, and by the positive feedback from our past and present students (most recently in our outstanding National Student Survey results, see page 16).

Magdalena Rehakova Business student

“Choosing to study here in central London at LSBM has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! The Business Management course is providing me with key skills in areas like marketing and finance which will help me to work anywhere in the world. Teachers and other staff members are very patient and helpful.

Improving the student experience Higher Education Academy (HEA) We are a strategic institutional subscriber to the Higher Education Academy (HEA). The HEA is the national body for enhancing learning and teaching in higher education. They work with universities, colleges, governments and sector agencies to bring about changes that improve teaching and the student learning experience.

90% of the permanent academic staff at LSBM are Fellows or Senior Fellows of the HEA, which is among the highest percentage of any institution of higher education. On behalf of the sector, the HEA manages the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF), the only national framework to offer professional recognition for teaching staff through continuing professional development (CPD), journals, research and surveys of students’ experiences. It brings individuals and teams together to improve the quality of learning and teaching, shape policy and enhance practice. The HEA also offers consultancy services which help universities and colleges in the UK and internationally to make strategic and practical changes to the way they work.

Our staff development programme includes a target for the achievement of UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) fellowships for all teaching staff through membership of the HEA. Our targets include all members of teaching staff becoming HEA Fellows. LSBM’s Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) supports teaching staff in their development. An annual Teaching and Learning Conference also provides a focus for staff development initiatives. CETL supports and enhances teaching. It supports staff in their applications to the Higher Education Academy. This demonstrates that LSBM is fully committed to constantly improving our teaching standards, staff and student engagement, and this naturally filters down to better courses and a great learning experience for everyone.

16

National Student Survey (NSS) The results of the latest National Student Survey (NSS) were released in August 2017 and LSBM was delighted that the levels of overall satisfaction of our students are among the highest of any provider of higher education in the UK. Following a major review, the NSS was substantially revised in 2017. These were the first major changes to the survey since its establishment in 2005 and allowed greater focus in the survey on student engagement. LSBM has always prided itself on our levels of personal attention and care with our students to ensure student engagement remains high.

The NSS gives students the opportunity to provide us with feedback about their courses and share their experiences of the time they spent studying at LSBM. It enables them to share with us in a very practical way what they liked and what they think could be improved. On the right are the overall student satisfaction levels from the survey.

18

Our overall satisfaction across all courses was 95.2%. This puts us in the top quarter of institutions who participated in the survey. This is a testimony to the hard work and endeavour of all the teaching and professional services staff at LSBM. There are four reasons why LSBM felt so passionately about getting students involved in the National Student Survey, and why we are so delighted to have our hard work at championing student engagement and success acknowledged: 1. Influence It is an influential source of information for LSBM that gives us direct feedback from our student body about how we are doing. 2. Collective voice It gives students a powerful collective voice to shape their course and create positive changes.

3. Best practice There is a wider remit in that the full spectrum of results helps to create a picture of the whole higher education landscape, so that we can learn best practice from other institutions, and improve our courses, even when we are already performing well. 4. Student focused It acts as an effective counterbalance to the idea of ‘top-down’ education systems. Students are at the heart of all we do. Providing a first-class educational experience is our key focus.

We look forward to building on this success in the future with you as our student!

“LSBM has provided incredible social and networking opportunities for me. I knew I had to go into higher education to get a degree and to make important connections. I’m also managing the LSBM Football Society, and am enjoying my time here more and more. Calin Chirigut Business student

“I think it’s great that LSBM supports the Living Wage. I am a second year student and I work a couple of hours a week as a Peer Advisor at LSBM, earning £10.20 an hour, rather than the £7.50 minimum wage (as I’m over 25). I enjoy my work, and the money really makes a big difference to me.”

Tunde Meszaros Business student

21

LSBM’s ethical practices

Our intentions are not only to benefit our students, we also care about benefiting the wider community and acting as an example of best practice. In addition to working hard to continually improve the academic standards at LSBM, we also pride ourselves on pursuing ethical practices. Here are three practical commitments that LSBM has made to do our bit to make the world a fairer place.

Living Wage

In April 2016 LSBM was accredited as a Living Wage Employer by the Living Wage Foundation. The Living Wage Foundation announced in November 2017 that the London Living Wage would increase to £10.20 an hour for everyone over the age of 18. Our Living Wage commitment sees everyone working at LSBM, regardless of whether they are permanent employees, student Peer Advisors or third-party contractors receiving a minimum hourly wage of £10.20. This is significantly higher than the national minimum wage, that was first introduced by the government in April 2016, and which from April 2018 will be £4.20 for under 18s, £5.90 for 18-20 year-olds, £7.38 for 21-24 year-olds, and £7.83 for over 25s. Learn more about our Living Wage commitment here: www.lsbm.ac.uk/living-wage

22

Disability Confident

In 2016, LSBM signed up to the government’s Disability Confident scheme. This aims to help employers successfully employ and retain disabled people and those with health conditions. Participating in the Disability Confident government initiative is a welcome opportunity for LSBM to lead the way in our community. As a result of being ‘Disability Confident Committed’ we pledged to the following: • Ensuring our recruitment process is inclusive and accessible • Communicating and promoting vacancies • Offering an interview to disabled people who meet the minimum requirements for the job • Anticipating and providing reasonable adjustments as required • Supporting any existing employee who acquires a disability or long-term health condition, enabling them to stay in work • Supporting at least one activity that will make a difference for disabled people.

This serves to demonstrate in very practical terms our commitment to fair and open employment practices.

“As the Disability and Wellbeing Advisor at LSBM, my role is to assess and offer support to meet the particular needs of individuals, whether they are staff or students. My main aim is to make everyone feel included and thrive in an equal, discrimination-free and supportive environment.” Learn more about our Disability Confident commitment here: www.lsbm.ac.uk/disability-confident

In August 2017, LSBM was pleased to announce that we have now taken additional steps to become a ‘Disability Confident Employer’. This includes offering at least one action to get the right people for LSBM and at least one action to keep and develop our people. This is all in addition to having a dedicated Disability and Wellbeing Advisor, who works in our Disability Office and is available during office hours to advise staff and students and help them if there are difficulties that can be overcome.

Dr. Nadia Michail Disability and Wellbeing Advisor

“I decided quite late, just after my A-Levels to change my course, even though I had an offer from another university. LSBM gave me a chance to study here and the course has been perfect for me as it has given me a route into studying business. The surrounding areas and campus are simply gorgeous. I’ve met some awesome people, my lecturers are incredibly supportive and I’m happy here.”

Partnerships and agreements UoN Associate Institution LSBM is the first institution that has been granted Associate Institution status from the University of Northampton (UoN).* The University of Northampton is our academic partner and awards our degree qualifications. Our unique designation means that we are key strategic partners and confirms the close relationship that LSBM has with the University of Northampton. There are 8 key benefits of Associate Institution status: 1. LSBM is unique - LSBM is UoN’s first partner to be granted Associate Institution status. This reinforces the strength of the academic partnership and shared vision of both institutions. 2. Enhanced curriculum planning LSBM has committed to additional outlining of developments in our curriculum planning and delivery that will convey even greater quality assurance and enhancement for our students. 3. Engaging students - Details of student engagement and achievement will be placed even higher in the spotlight and reflections on our academic programme will be carried out annually. 4. Constant improvement - LSBM is pleased to commit to sending a representative to attend the University’s Collaborative Quality Forum, both as a mechanism to learn new, cutting edge ways to enhance our courses and also to feed in the developments we have made so that teaching at both institutions can benefit.

5. Ongoing learning - Reaffirming LSBM’s commitment to working towards all academic staff becoming HEA Fellows (see page 15). 6. Collaboration - There are common social values underpinning the relationship between UoN and LSBM. This means there is a desire for more joint initiatives and collaborative projects over forthcoming years. 7. Shared knowledge - There is a commitment to the furthering of the higher education experience for students, in line with our enhanced status, that will enable UoN and LSBM students to work together more frequently on strategic projects, creating more opportunities to benefit students at both institutions. 8. Networking - There will be a provision of staff development opportunities at LSBM that promote teaching, learning, and scholarship. Staff working in both formal and informal ways together, for example in programmes such as Changemaker (see page 30), can help to make an impact and strengthen the relationship between the two institutions. We are naturally excited by the potential benefits of this enhanced (and currently unique) status for LSBM. We stand alone as an Associate Institution both because of our successful ongoing relationship with UoN, and because we are looking forward to building and growing it in those 8 key areas with our Teaching Excellence Framework Gold Award-winning partner, UoN. *Associate Institution status was awarded in July 2017 and is subject to an annual review.

29

When asked about the partnership, Dr. Hastings McKenzie, Dean of Academic Partnerships at the University of Northampton had this to say:

“As the Dean of Academic Partnerships and on behalf of the University, we are delighted to be working with the London School of Business and Management (LSBM), who is our first partner to have been granted Associate Institution status. We are committed to the partnership. Associate Institution status delineates LSBM as one of our key strategic partners, in delivering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

Changemaker

In 2013 the University of Northampton became the first university in the UK to be given the title of ‘Changemaker Campus’ by Ashoka U – a community of leaders and institutions who work to find solutions to society’s problems.

We want to help you to be a leader of the future, and participating in the Changemaker programme will allow you to develop ideas that could make a difference and address a problem in the world through a new social venture.

As such, they are part of an exclusive network of only 37 colleges and universities from around the world that are recognised as Changemaker Campuses, placing them among the global leaders in social innovation with the vision of what education can be.

You will learn to see how theories you are learning in the classroom can work in practice, and you will forge your own links in your chosen field of work. Participation in Changemaker also gives you that sense of commercial awareness which employers value so much.

Changemaker promotes social entrepreneurship, linking social needs to creative business ideas. It gives students the opportunity to work on social entrepreneurship projects here in the United Kingdom and further afield.

As a graduate of the programme, you will be internationally recognised by Ashoka U as a Changemaker who has what it takes to make an impact on society.

Students pursuing University of Northampton degree courses at the London School of Business and Management can benefit from participating in the University’s Changemaker programme.

Support Academic support It is our mission to provide students with an exceptional higher education experience, combined with the full social lifestyle of studying at a university in London. We provide extensive support to help our students achieve success. Personal Advice Network Our Personal Advice Network is one of the ways you can get the advice you need to make the most of your time here at LSBM. We have a network of experienced ‘Success Champions’, who are on hand to help you resolve any issues you might have during your time at LSBM. We make contacting ‘Success Champions’ as easy as sending an email message and outlining the nature of your issue. If they cannot resolve it for you right away, they will signpost you to where your issue can be resolved most speedily. We also have student Peer Advisors available in our Student Hub who are available to help during office hours. Lecturers Lecturers deliver lectures, seminars and workshops, answer questions about their subject, provide feedback and mark assignments. You can approach your lecturer for additional academic support. Lecturers resolve problems quickly or know where to refer students for further assistance. We are proud of the high-quality standards that our academic staff maintain.

The services of our faculty members, many of whom hold a PhD or are working towards their doctorate, are available to students. All of our academic staff are, or are working towards becoming, Fellows of the Higher Education Academy (see page 15), recognising their commitment to teaching and higher education. Our lecturers also have practice-based experience, providing our students with a real-world dimension to their academic studies. Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) PAL is an internationally recognised scheme based on research showing that students benefit academically from peer teaching. Senior students lead study group sessions throughout the year; these are additional to regular lectures, seminars and feedback from lecturers. PAL fosters cross-year support between students on the same course. PAL leaders are second or third-year students and undertake regular training to facilitate weekly hour-long support sessions. These sessions cover lecture materials, assignments, referencing and Turnitin® (the software we use to check for plagiarism). The PAL leaders work closely with an Academic Course Contact who provides them with support, advice and materials to use during PAL sessions.

Julian Owusu Business student (former Ghana U17 international footballer)

“I was a professional footballer making a comfortable living. But, I realised that to achieve my dreams of starting my own business, I would have to quit my football career and study full time. LSBM offered me something different to anywhere else. When I started, I was immediately put onto a Personal Development Plan, which has helped me to structure my life and figure out how to work towards my ambitions. I’m getting top grades and I’m on track to achieve my business aspirations.”

“For me as a mature student, the support on offer at LSBM gave me everything I needed to get back into education. The support mechanisms in place at LSBM are fantastic. Our teachers really go out of their way to help. It’s difficult balancing a job and being a single mum alongside my studies, but I still found time to socialise with my friends.”

The Learning Technology Team

The primary focus of the Learning Technology Team is to enable effective use of technologies in all teaching and learning activity, whilst keeping the student experience at the heart of what we do. The Learning Technology Team is located within the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) and works closely with subject academics to provide training, support and guidance to staff and students on the use of technologies for learning. CETL has a mission to support, promote, and enhance teaching effectiveness and student learning; encourage research of teaching and learning; and communicate the importance of teaching and learning to both internal and external stakeholders. The technologies that we use here at LSBM have been chosen with students and staff in mind. Our Virtual Learning Environment, Canvas, is very user friendly, full of interactive features and can be accessed through an easy to use app. Canvas is available on every browser, from any computer, from anywhere and at any time.

eBooks support our modules and are also available on your phone or tablet device for you to read even when you do not have WiFi. Your timetable, Office 365 Outlook® email account, and Student Self-service Portal (SSP) are also available online so you can access them 24/7 from any device. The SSP is your ‘go-to’ area for all your day-to-day academic support needs. Use your SSP to contact the Learning Technology Team with any questions or problems you have using Canvas or any of our other technologies. The Learning Technology Team are here to support you throughout your studies and enable you to develop your digital skills.

41

Supporting you with technology

We understand the pressures you are under and use technology to provide support whenever you might want it, and wherever you are. What is a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)? A VLE is an online system for delivering learning materials and support. It enriches your learning environment and provides significant, wide-ranging support to meet the needs of each individual student. Our VLE provides • Online lecture slides and embedded resources • Electronic publications and eBooks • Discussion boards to debate academic matters with your peers and lecturers • IT training programmes • Turnitin® to check assignments for plagiarism • GradeMark® to check your marks and obtain lecturer feedback.

Canvas and SSP Canvas is our VLE that allows course tutors to share materials and learning resources easily with their students. Its intuitive user interface means that you will always have easy access to someone who can help you to get the most from your studies. Canvas will give you easy access to your Student Self-service Portal (SSP) which will allow you to get help and assistance at your convenience. In addition, you have access to the Skills Hub of the University of Northampton, which offers: • Academic support with adjusting to academic studies, academic writing, finding and evaluating information, referencing, plagiarism, reflective practice and time management • Films and information about developing employability skills. The material on the Skills Hub complements the services of our StudyPlus and Employability support programmes (see pages 39 and 52).

Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition

The Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition is a multi-stakeholder partnership involving the Member States, companies, social partners, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and educational establishments of the European Union. It is designed to help meet the high demand for digital skills in Europe which are essential in today’s digital society and economy. LSBM has always been at the forefront of digital initiatives in higher education, and our Academic Lead for Teaching and Learning, Geraldine Murphy, whose leadership led us to apply for membership, is helping to shape the teaching and learning vision at LSBM. Geraldine has been a driving force behind encouraging a forward-thinking approach to the important role that Learning Technologists can play in enhancing the academic experience. In January 2018 Geraldine was nominated for the prestigious ‘Academic Award’ at the ‘2018 FDM everywoman Technology Awards’ for her outstanding contribution to technology and science. https://www.lsbm.ac.uk/headline/ news_detail/192 She expressed her delight at LSBM being approved as a member of a high-quality coalition which seeks to further enhance the technological creativity and skills base of our students and the wider community, and had this to say about our membership of the Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition:

Geraldine Murphy Academic Lead for Teaching and Learning

“Digital Literacy is really important to us and this really underpins what we do here at LSBM from our curriculum to our student support. I am so pleased to be a part of such a positive movement. It is important to us that our students graduate with skills and experiences that enrich them and give them a competitive edge in the job market.”

43

The goals of the Coalition are to achieve the following by 2020: • Train one million young unemployed people for vacant digital jobs through internships/traineeships, apprenticeships and short-term training programmes. • Support the upskilling and retraining of the workforce and in particular, take concrete measures to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) who face specific challenges in attracting and retaining digital talent as well as retraining their workforce. • Modernise education and training to provide all students and teachers with the opportunity to use digital tools and materials in their teaching and learning activities and to develop and upgrade their digital skills. • Reorient and make use of available funding to support digital skills and carry out awareness-raising about the importance of digital skills for employability, competitiveness and participation in society.

Subina Gurung Business student

“I was attracted to LSBM by the excellent value for money fees, scholarships and interactive, personalised learning experience on offer.”

As members of the Coalition, LSBM is pleased to endorse and actively work towards the objectives and principles of the Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition Charter, and take pride that we are contributing to boosting digital skills among our students through our proactive approach to technology.

Sara Khan Law student (from Canada)

“For me London is the best place in the world to study and meet young people! There is so much here culturally and socially to do – I’ve met people from my course from all over the world, which can only benefit me in the future. I love the time and support that staff are prepared to give and this has given me greater confidence to achieve better results in my assignments.”

Accreditations: Enhancing your employment prospects We have negotiated extensively with leading academic and independent bodies to gain extra support and accreditations for LSBM students.

This could mean that (with the right course modules and required qualifying employment time) you may not have to complete a two-year training contract to qualify as a Solicitor. Accounting Our Accounting and Financial Management courses have been accredited for seven exemptions by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

Business LSBM are Higher Education Partners with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). UNIVERSITY PARTNER

CIMA is the world’s largest and leading professional body of management accountants with more than 280,000 members and students in 177 countries. The CMI offers Higher Education providers partnership opportunities that boost their offering to students by offering CMI membership benefits that include access to their unique online resource portal.

In addition, we have also been accredited for nine Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) exemptions for our BA (Hons) Accounting and Financial Management degree courses.

With most of our courses, we also offer the possibility of work placement modules, which you will need to arrange yourself, but which we can support you to source. This means that committed students can gain significant work experience before they have even graduated and get course credit for it. Law All of our Law courses are Qualifying Law Degrees. In addition, we are one of a handful of providers in England and Wales to have been granted institutional exemptions for Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) qualifications.

This saves you time and money and will help to fast-track your career progress as an accountant. Note: Total number of exemptions may differ on BA (Hons) Accounting and Financial Management Top-up. See page 104. For more information about: • CMI, see page 83 • CILEx, see page 95 • CIMA, see page 108 • ACCA, see page 109.

Networking and building academic bridges

LSBM has developed a series of relationships with exciting local, national and international organisations. This is part of a process of networking and building wider academic bridges to benefit our students. Enterprise Educators UK (EEUK) Enterprise Educators UK (EEUK) is a national network for enterprise educators which works to support Higher Education institutions to increase the scale, scope and effectiveness of enterprise education and practice.

Our academics have access to an EEUK ‘Toolkit’ of 227 ‘how-to’ guides and case studies that have been contributed by 50 leading educators from 20 institutions. This helps to enrich our teaching, as well as providing links to useful resource materials. Knowledge Quarter (KQ) Knowledge Quarter (KQ) aims to bring together the cluster of knowledge institutions located in the small area around King’s Cross, the Euston Road and Bloomsbury where there is an abundance of world-class universities, museums, libraries, students and teaching facilities (including LSBM).

The opportunities that this affords LSBM includes: closer collaborations on internships and employability; scope for contacting other members to speak at LSBM Lighthouse events (see page 56); access to conferences and workshops at member organisations; and networking with other higher education leaders. The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) LSBM is an active member of the ACU, which has over 500 members and a shared belief in the value of higher education to society.

Dr Joanna Newman MBE FRSA, Secretary General, Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), described the opportunity of the ACU in the following terms at an event at LSBM in July 2017.

“The ACU is the world’s oldest international network of universities representing an incredibly diverse group of global members. The future of the ACU, as well as its past, is its convening power and how we make that convening power work for our members.” These memberships are just three examples of ways in which we help our students and staff to network, engage with the wider community and assist their employability.

“I was working in the NHS and felt that to achieve my career goals, I needed to go and study law. LSBM has given me the opportunity to do this. The classroom is very multicultural and we have a lot of contact with our teachers because of the small class sizes. The facilities are great, we have access to the coffee shops, gym and other social facilities on campus.

Sadia Khan Law student

Zikra Bouhafs Law student (Foundation Year course)

“The Foundation Year course is ideal for me because it has given me a chance to study law and get a Qualifying Law Degree within four years, even though I didn’t take law as one of my A-Levels. I really enjoy studying at LSBM because the lectures are fun and interesting. We get a lot of attention from our tutors – everyone seems to really care about your education. The online resources and library are fantastic – you get all the materials you need to succeed.”

Student Engagement, Wellbeing and Success (SEWS)

The Centre for Student Engagement, Wellbeing and Success (SEWS) is at the heart of LSBM’s mission to transform our students’ lives in order for them to achieve their full potential. This mission is deeply connected to our promotion of kindness, ethical rigour, creativity and accountability as core values within our community of learning. Conscious of these demands, SEWS seeks to deliver a range of services which places the holistic development of all our students at the heart of what we do. By recognising the multi-dimensional nature of the person, SEWS works to ensure that each student becomes an independent and critical learner, constantly encouraged to achieve their potential and contribute to the society in which we live. The Student Engagement, Wellbeing and Success Team oversees your induction. They work closely with academic and other professional services staff to assist students who need support. They also offer a confidential service to help students address personal problems that could affect their wellbeing and academic progress. As your student journey progresses, SEWS aims to develop your skill set through Personal Development Planning (PDP), so that you begin to see clearly the link between self-knowledge, academic excellence, work, service to others and personal fulfilment.

We also encourage our students to get involved in the many events hosted by SEWS throughout the year as a way of developing their academic and employability profile. You can contact the dedicated team at sews@lsbm.ac.uk The Student Success Hub The Student Success Hub is your onestop enquiry centre, which is open every weekday, during term time, to assist you. Disability and Student Wellbeing Our full-time Disability and Student Wellbeing Advisor provides information and advice about specialised support available to disabled students, or those with long-term medical conditions, mental health conditions and specific learning difficulties, including arranging assessments for reasonable adjustments and assisting students with funding applications. We are also active members of the ‘Disability Confident’ scheme that champions fair employment access for disabled people (see page 22).

Employability support

Employability Graduates today face a competitive, fastpaced and ever-changing job market. We recognise the challenges graduates face and we are committed to enhancing the employability of all our students. Personal Development Planning Your employability journey starts with your Personal Development Plan (PDP). Fulfilling and productive careers begin with an understanding of one’s own strengths and capabilities, and, perhaps most importantly, with an insight into what you can uniquely offer to others. By identifying these aspects of your character, personal development planning helps you analyse the challenges you face and create strategies to overcome them in order to reach your goals. When you engage with your PDP you will reflect on everything you do, academic and non-academic. Graduates who have developed transferable skills and gained relevant work experience are better prepared to start their careers and are more attractive to potential employers.

Therefore, your PDP will link into other aspects of our employability service, particularly our work experience projects, so that when you graduate you have a comprehensive set of skills and worthwhile work experience that employers value. Employability service You can make use of our employability service at any point in your studies. The service not only provides information and advice on career options, but can also help you to develop transferable skills, gain relevant work experience and forge links with employers. Our Employability Team offers one-to-one advice on CV writing, job applications and interview techniques. They also host seminars on working within particular sectors, building up your ‘social capital’ and helping you to think creatively when it comes to finding the work you want. Appointments can be made to see a Student Success Advisor through our Student Success Hub. Work experience is essential for securing graduate-level employment and we have built relationships with companies and organisations who will give you meaningful opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge. In addition, we run a number of employability events throughout the year giving students and employers opportunities to meet and discuss the needs of the job market.

LSBM Radio LSBM Radio is an initiative run by the Student Guild. You can enjoy interviews with staff and students, get news on opportunities inside and outside of LSBM and engage in the debates taking place on our discussion panel. LSBM Radio shows are available on demand so you can download them and listen in when it suits you. SEWS Café Every Monday, during term time, LSBM students can attend informal sessions at our 99 Gower Street building at one of two times (subject to change): • Session 1: 11.30 - 12.30 • Session 2: 13.30 - 14.30.

Daniel Meresanu Business student

“I was really happy that I could get onto a degree course without any formal qualifications as I didn’t complete high school back home. I was admitted after passing an English test and interview. The lecturers are interesting people with a lot of professional experience in business, and my course fees are really good value compared to friends I know at other universities.”

The Cafés are informal gatherings serving tea, coffee and cake, and they provide an opportunity for students to make connections with staff and learn about the whole range of support activities we have in place. The aim is to create a welcoming space where students will feel supported to ask for help and guidance. There is also a fun side, with socialising and games such as quizzes and puzzles with prizes for the winners! If you have any further questions about SEWS Cafe, or the ways that SEWS (Student Engagement, Wellbeing and Success) might be able to help you, then you can email them at sews@lsbm.ac.uk

LSBM Lighthouse is the brand used to deliver a series of events and projects that promote employability, enterprise, internationalisation and community involvement. It officially launched on 4 October 2017 with an event which explored, ‘How is the world changing and how can I change with it?’. However, the external speakers part of the programme has already been active at LSBM since early 2016. A key idea behind LSBM Lighthouse is helping students to harness their LSBM experience and aid them to develop networks which support their success and wellbeing as well as the success and wellbeing of others. An important part of LSBM Lighthouse is our external speakers programme which centres on talks by insightful and inspirational speakers from a variety of interesting backgrounds. This movement to inform, educate and inspire our students with great speakers has resulted in events that have: • championed entrepreneurship • enhanced our students’ knowledge of leading professional bodies • shone a spotlight on social issues • allowed our students to become inspired by hearing first-hand from leading industrialists and charities. The external speakers programme focuses on transferring knowledge; building trust; establishing networks; and encouraging students to play a helpful, creative and worthwhile role in the world. The Lighthouse brand is the latest innovative LSBM initiative in a well established tradition of offering outstanding events to engage, inspire and inform.

Cal Courtney Director, Centre for Student Engagement, Wellbeing and Success (SEWS)

The four pillars of LSBM Lighthouse There are four main pillars to LSBM Lighthouse that extend our intended reach way beyond the original seeds of the idea, which was inspiring talks by great speakers. These are as follows: 1. External speakers programme You can read write-ups of past events and see a list of future speakers on our Lighthouse page here: www.lsbm.ac.uk/lighthouse 2. Artist in Residence programme This is being led by Cal Courtney, Director, Centre for Student Engagement, Wellbeing and Success (SEWS).

“Our Artist in Residence programme at LSBM works hand-in-hand with students, not just to create art, but also to lead a dialogue on what it is to be a creative person. Fiddian Warman is our Artist in Residence. He is the founder and director of the Society of Digital Artists (SoDA) and has designed and delivered an enormous range of creative projects. Learn more at: https://www.lsbm. ac.uk/december-2017 This is a unique project that is aimed at encouraging students to develop their creative skills and understand the process of generating original ideas which have value.

3. Supporting innovative external events This included supporting ‘Social Storm’ in November 2017, an experiential learning opportunity for students to collaborate nationally on finding innovative solutions to global issues through a curated hackathon during Global Entrepreneurship Week. As well as the ‘Social Enterprise Festival’, which takes place over 3 days across London in Spring 2018, we regularly participate in seminars across the year with academic partners. 4. The Bloomsbury Leadership Forum This brings together local community and business leaders to discuss their insights in a small seminar format with discussions to be published by LSBM under the banner of the Bloomsbury Leadership Forum. For further details of any of these programmes, see the LSBM Lighthouse page of the website. www.lsbm.ac.uk/lighthouse

We look forward to welcoming you to a future event!

Student Guild Student representation is an essential part of guaranteeing a great student experience for everyone. The Student Guild is the official representative body for all LSBM students. It is funded by an annual grant from LSBM, but operates completely independently. The Guild provides impartial advice and guidance to students, raises student concerns with LSBM staff and works collaboratively with the LSBM senior management and leadership team to give students the best student experience possible.

In November 2017 the outstanding work of our Student Guild was highlighted at the prestigious ‘International Higher Education Annual Conference’ when we won the ‘Excellence in Student Community’ award. This award recognises the important part that building a student community (through our Student Guild and professional services staff) has played at LSBM, and the value that we place on the work of our Student President, PALs (see page 36) and the Student Representatives (see page 61) who support him. You can learn more about the ‘Excellence in Student Community’ award here: https://www.lsbm.ac.uk/ headline/news_detail/186 The Student Guild is led by the Student President, who is elected each year by the entire student body.

Delon Jones Student President Delon Jones is the current Student President. You will be seeing a great deal of Delon during your first year at LSBM as he supports and builds upon the various projects which the Student Guild has introduced. Delon had this to say about taking up the role of Student President at LSBM:

“As the President of the Student Guild, I am grateful to be a part of an institution that both respects and supports its students and helps them to achieve their best.” Delon can be contacted at president@lsbm.ac.uk

59

The Student Guild oversees a team of trained Peer Advisors who provide a signposting service to their fellow students. LSBM students are enrolled as Associate Members of Student Central (see page 33), thus ensuring they can enjoy the benefits of belonging to the wider Bloomsbury student population. They also offer a range of exciting societies which include law, business, accounting and football societies, as well as supporting charities. While the Student Guild is led by the Student President, it is managed by the Student Guild Manager. In November 2017, Shola Fiberesima was appointed to the role and her main focus is on ensuring that the strategic priorities set by the student body are delivered and that the system of student representation is healthy and thriving.

Shola Fiberesima Student Guild Manager Shola can be contacted at guild.manager@lsbm.ac.uk

“I am passionate about ensuring that students enjoy a holistic academic journey, which goes beyond the lecture room. I aim to work alongside the present Guild team and other members of LSBM to achieve this. The LSBM Student Guild also have their own website which you can find at www.lsbm-guild.org

60

Aniqa Mahmood, Business student (Student Representative, from Norway)

“My course was perfect for me as a student looking to complete my degree quickly and progress my career. It’s great value for money and LSBM provide scholarships to Norwegian students, which really helped. The course is challenging, but I’m really enjoying it. I’ve made so many friends here.”

61

Student Representatives

Student representation and a strong partnership between staff and students is the basis for a thriving academic community. The Student Guild manages the democratic system of student representation to ensure the student voice is heard and incorporated at all levels of LSBM’s management. At the start of each academic year, students elect Student Representatives. Each week they attend drop-in sessions where they can report any problems they or their fellow students may be experiencing. Twice each semester, Student Representatives attend the Student Staff Consultative Forum (SSCF). The SSCF gives students the opportunity to contribute to developments and enhancements in the areas of institutional policy and strategy as well as sharing their views on the day-to-day running of the organisation. Becoming a Student Representative allows you to develop your leadership skills and gives you the satisfaction of knowing that you are doing your bit to make sure you and your fellow students receive a high-quality educational experience. If you think you would like to serve the wider academic community of LSBM as a Student Representative, please put yourself forward for election. You will receive information on elections during your first week of term and the Student Guild runs training workshops for those elected. LSBM staff work with the Student Guild to make sure the Student Representatives are well supported during their terms of office and that no undue administrative burden falls on their shoulders.

The student voice is of fundamental importance to the success of LSBM and students sit on a number of other important committees and working groups, including the Academic Committee, the highest academic decision-making body within LSBM. For more information about becoming a Student Representative, you can email sews@lsbm.ac.uk

International students

Studying in a foreign country can be daunting. Our experienced staff assist with academic and practical matters such as finding accommodation, registering with a local doctor (GP), opening a UK bank account, and applying for public transport discounts and council tax exemption. Studying in the UK may be different to what you are used to Learning is assessed by means of assignments, reports, dissertations, presentations and examinations. The emphasis is on independent learning, but our students are fully supported throughout the study process by our staff. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) Immigration to the UK is regulated by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). EU/EEA students

The government has announced that EU students applying for a place at an English university or further education institution in the 2018 academic year will continue to be eligible for student loans and grants, and will remain so for the duration of their course. This decision means that students applying to study in 2018 will not only be eligible for the same funding and support as they are now, but that their eligibility will continue throughout their course, even if the UK exits the European Union during that period. In addition, to provide further help, LSBM launched a scholarship which is available to EEA and Swiss nationals (who do not require a Tier 4 visa). This will entitle them to ÂŁ3,000 per year on any course (provided their attendance rate is above 80%). For more information, see: http://www.lsbm.ac.uk/eeascholarships LSBM students and new starters in October 2018 who are EU nationals will be entitled to Student Loans Company (SLC) funding for the duration of their studies. EU nationals who have been in the UK for more than five years will also be entitled to apply for a maintenance loan.

Prospective students applying to study at LSBM in 2018 will have the same visa requirements, access to SLC funding opportunities and will not have the terms of their funding changed if the UK leaves the EU during their studies.

Introduction: Going deeper

LSBM is proud of the exciting courses that we offer. We are specialists in three areas of academic study: 1. Business Management 2. Accounting and Financial Management 3. Law. This focus on just three areas means that where other higher education providers may offer a generalist course provision, we choose to specialise and go deeper. There are a number of benefits of this approach for students who study their degree with us: 1. We attract the best teachers

Foundation Year degrees Being able to study Foundation 4 Year courses in each of our specialist subject areas (with only limited qualifications) empowers students to study for a degree by easing them into the study habits needed to succeed at degree level (see page 68). 1 Year Top-up degrees We offer 1 Year Top-ups in both Business Management, and Accounting and Financial Management. This means you could complete your degree in one year, provided you have a relevant Level 5 qualification. Innovative 2 Year courses You can study 2 Year Accelerated courses in Business Management, Law, or Accounting and Financial Management. This can save you a whole year (or two, compared to Foundation Year degree) of studying, course fees and living costs. Traditional 3 Year courses, but with fewer modules and fewer semesters Offering 2 modules per semester and 2 semesters per year means that our modules go deeper into the subject areas than other providers.

Specialists We are specialists in each of the areas we teach, and so we naturally attract the most talented teachers who want to explore their subject areas with students who are looking to leave with not just a degree, but a depth of knowledge of the subject that few of their peers will enjoy.

3. We give you more support to help you succeed

Better qualified teachers with an active research focus 90% of our permanent academic staff are Fellows or Senior Fellows of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), and we actively encourage everyone to pursue academic research. You are therefore taught by experts in their subject areas.

Academic innovation Our innovative programmes such as StudyPlus enhance your skills and maximise your abilities.

2. We offer innovative course structures In the pages that follow you will find course structures that set us apart from our peers, notably:

Great support Our focus on high-quality specialism means that we are able to offer more individual academic support, smaller class sizes and help to our students.

Professional exemptions We offer significant exemptions on most of our courses, including CIMA, ACCA, and CILEx exemptions. This can save you time and money and improve your employability (see page 47). Greater access to opportunities Having our campus in the heart of London gives you access to unique academic and social opportunities.

“LSBM is an innovative, exciting and unique place to work and study. I joined in May 2014, having worked within the higher education sector for over 20 years, the majority of that time in large public universities, Anglia Ruskin and King’s College London. As a small, personal higher education institution we can deliver validated degrees that are designed to best allow our students to succeed to their full potential. Our outstanding Quality Assurance Agency annual monitoring report and National Student Survey (NSS) results are a testament to the high standards, quality of teaching and levels of support that we provide throughout all we do at LSBM.”

The Foundation Year advantage

These courses stand as a practical application of our commitment to widening participation, and are guided by four values: 1. Accessibility and supportiveness Providing equal and fair access to higher education for those who can demonstrate the ability to succeed.

Our innovative and ground-breaking 4 Year Foundation Year courses are designed to ease you into studying and progress you quickly to the high standards we expect from our students. This is a great option for those students who are fully committed to succeed, but who may lack the formal qualifications that other, less support-oriented higher education providers, require. The Foundation Year option is available for each of our specialisms, as follows:

• BA (Hons) Business Management including Foundation Year (4 Year)

• BA (Hons) Accounting and Financial Management including Foundation Year (4 Year)

• LLB (Hons) Law including Foundation Year (4 Year).

2. Excellence and ambition Continuously improving and enhancing our students’ educational experience. 3. Serving Promoting an inclusive servant-led community within which all our students and staff actively serve the needs of others. 4. Openness, transparency and honesty Operating ethically and with integrity in all our dealings with our students, staff, academic partners and external stakeholders. We are committed to providing fair access to higher education for those who demonstrate the ability to succeed on their chosen course. Through our Admissions Policy, and its application, we focus on those with the ‘potential to succeed’. Our standardised entry requirements for all of our Foundation Year courses are 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 (or Grade C) or above, or equivalent Level 2 qualifications, including English Language (for all Foundation Year courses), plus Mathematics (for Accounting and Financial Management only). However, applicants without formal qualifications may be admitted by passing admissions tests. We want you to succeed and we believe in giving you that chance by offering the Foundation Year programme.

69

“Our Foundation Year is a vibrant community of students whose varied life experiences and aspirations make for an exciting and thought-provoking learning environment. The course is designed to provide learners with the skills, knowledge and confidence they require to succeed on our undergraduate degrees in Business, Law, and Accounting and Financial Management and the professional world beyond. It gives our tutors great satisfaction to create the roots from which students can flourish, and we take pride in making sure that we are always available and attentive to the needs of every individual on the course.

Anna Krajewska Course Leader, Foundation Year

“I’m in the second year of my Business Management course, and am enjoying it and getting good grades. I’ve made special friends and find myself very at home in London. The course has been fun – the modules are interesting and I’ve already gained skills which will help me to secure a job when I graduate. I can’t praise the teachers enough, they are so attentive and professional, but also treat us like friends.” Zulal Turkoglu Business student

The research advantage There are many benefits of studying at LSBM, and our strength in research is one of them. This impacts directly on students as our academics seek out new and better ways to engage and teach our students.

Asif Sadiq, Course Leader, BA (Hons) Business Management (1 Year Top-up) had this to say about the research focus at LSBM.

We are an institutional subscriber to the Higher Education Academy (HEA), hold a Research Seminar Series during the academic year, and also organise an annual Teaching and Learning Conference.

“It is always our goal to constantly innovate in our teaching methodologies so that our students see immediate benefits in the classroom.

Our 7th conference took place on 4 July 2017 and served as an exploratory platform for sharing ideas, research and experience with professionals from across the Higher Education sector. It offered great opportunities to extend professional networks, forge new collaborations, broaden core expertise and, most importantly, foster reflection on improving current practices of teaching and learning. We are proud of being an institution that champions research among our staff. We aim to make sure it is relevant and that teachers can learn and engage with it so that our students can benefit from those new insights. As part of this process we encourage our academics to write for leading academic journals, publish books, and participate in case studies. We also actively encourage our academics to attend and present at pre-eminent industry conferences because it is essential to our staff and students that we remain at the cutting edge of what is happening in the subject areas we teach.

I look forward to sharing new ideas and methods with my peers and am proud to be part of a burgeoning academic research community at LSBM. Education is dynamic, fast-paced and constantly changing. Through our ongoing commitment to keeping our staff at the forefront of research and innovation, we are pleased to be able to offer students, across all our disciplines, a holistic experience that embraces real-world insights learned from research.

The CILEx advantage There are three routes available to progress your legal career: 1. The Bar route - Become a Barrister 2. The Legal Practice Course (LPC) route - Become a Solicitor 3. The CILEx route - Become a Chartered Legal Executive (and also have the subsequent option to become a Solicitor). All of our law courses are recognised by the legal professional bodies as Qualifying Law Degrees (QLDs), which exempts graduates from the Academic Stage of Training for students seeking to qualify as a Solicitor or Barrister of England and Wales. This means you are already covered for the first two of these ‘traditional routes’ to pursue a legal career. The legal landscape however, is now changing, and the opportunities that are available for those who qualify via the Chartered Legal Executives (CILEx) route are ever-expanding and compare favourably with the other two routes. Learn more at www.cilex.org.uk Our graduates who complete required modules in their final year will be exempt from two CILEx qualifications: the CILEx Level 6 Diploma in Law and Practice; and the CILEx Graduate Fast-track Diploma. Students who complete our Civil Litigation and Client Care module, plus one of four other practice-based modules, are eligible for admission as a Graduate Member of CILEx.

This opportunity will save our graduates one year of additional study. With CILEx Graduate Member status, our students will also be able to use the designatory letters GCILEx. London School of Business and Management graduates with CILEx Graduate Member status could immediately work in a law firm in roles such as a Trainee CILEx Lawyer, Paralegal or Legal Clerk. After completing three years of qualifying employment in a law firm, they will be admitted as a Fellow of CILEx and a Chartered Legal Executive. Fellows can represent clients in court if they qualify as a Chartered Legal Executive Advocate. They can also dual qualify as a Solicitor, without having to complete a two year training contract. If you want to qualify as a Solicitor, then as a Chartered Legal Executive you can claim automatic exemption from the need to have a training contract, after completing the Legal Practice Course (LPC). This accreditation from CILEx is just another way in which we are enhancing our law students’ learning and employment prospects. Note: CILEx regulations apply.

Comparing Certified and Management Accountants

One of the key considerations you will face when looking to pursue a career as an accountant is which route to take into the profession. You will find that with many undergraduate accounting degree courses you will face a stark choice, even before you have begun your studies, as to whether you wish to become a Management Accountant or a Chartered Certified Accountant (also known as a Certified Accountant). The main difference is that a Certified Accountant primarily focuses on the numbers in a business, and is often responsible to a wider audience, for example the shareholders, or undertakes audits. Management Accountants tend to be more proactively involved in the day-to-day running of the business, and are often used as a strategic resource to allow decisions within a company to be based on financial facts and how they may impact the wider business. Both can be exciting career paths, but they are different.

At LSBM, we believe that this is a choice that is better made after you have more experience of your accounting studies. We want you to decide once you have all the facts. For that reason, we are one of a select group of providers of higher education who have arranged for accreditations with both the leading body for Certified Accountants (ACCA), and Management Accountants (CIMA) for our students. The benefits to you are substantial. It saves you time and money and means that the choice of your accounting career path remains firmly in your own hands.

The CIMA advantage UNIVERSITY PARTNER

All of our Accounting and Financial Management courses have been accredited by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). They can take advantage of CIMA online communities and free resources, including career support services such as: interview tips; CV support; discussion forums; graduate vacancies; networking events and employment skills classes. CIMA prepares people for a career in business. It teaches skills for strategic advice, managing risk and making key decisions, with a syllabus designed to deliver a strong understanding of all aspects of business so members can contribute in many areas of the organisations they work in. Because all of our BA (Hons) Accounting and Financial Management courses are accredited by CIMA, our graduates will be granted exemptions from up to seven CIMA papers, as follows:

BA2

Fundamentals of Management Accounting

BA3

Note: exemptions for the BA (Hons) Accounting and Financial Management (1 Year Top-up) are dependent on modules taken at Levels 4 and 5. In addition, CIMA regulations apply.
