Welcome one and all to the season of sizzling bratwursts and sounds of oom-pah! Transport yourself to the heart of Munich with all the excitement of this wundervoll fall festival in downtown Lee’s Summit.

OKT OBER FEST

Grab your lederhosen and dirndl and head to downtown Lee’s Summit to join 70,000 festival goers for this annual fall festival. Enjoy German meals and dancing, live entertainment, Kids Street, arts and crafts, the Biergarten, carnival, Sportzelt, contests, home brew tasting and much more. There’s no cost to attend the festival.

GRAPE STOMP Head to the Biergarten at 7 p.m. Friday to catch the action with emcee Codie Allen, 106.5 The Wolf. Participants will stomp grapes with their bare feet in a race to get the most juice. Winners will be crowned in the men’s and women’s rounds as “King & Queen of the Vineyard.” Special thanks to Stonehaus Farms Winery for the grapes. PEOPLE’S CHOICE HOME BREW TASTING Head to the Biergarten from noon-3 p.m. Saturday to taste the refreshing creations of our local home brewers! Attendees are invited to sample over 40 different brews and vote for their favorite brewer. The cost is $20 per person in advance (while supplies last) or $25 per person the day of, based on availability. Registration includes a tasting glass for sampling as many beers as you can in three hours (home brews only). Purchase your glasses at LSoktoberfest.com. Come. Drink. Vote! SAM ADAMS STEIN HOISTING COMPETITION Think you’ve got what it takes? Test your strength at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Biergarten. The object of the game is to hoist a full liter stein longer than anyone else. Competitors must use only one hand and steins must be held at arm’s length without spilling. One male and one female winner will be crowned and will receive an etched Sam Adams pewter stein. There is no fee to participate; must be 21 or older.

FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS KIDS STREET sponsored by Shining Light Music Head to Kids Street for crafts, games, mini golf, a petting zoo and a whole lot more. What’s better? It’s all free! Also back by popular demand is the Rootbiergarten. Kids 12 and under can enjoy their own bubbly beverage at no cost, thanks to our sponsor Cross Creek at Lee’s Summit. Keep an eye out for Sluggerrr, who’s taking a break from the Royals to be on Kids Street from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday. Pony rides also are available for a small fee. HANDMADE ARTS & CRAFTS FAIR The juried Arts and Crafts Fair features local and regional artists displaying unique handmade crafts, collectibles and original works of art. Vendors showcase their talents for the public to view and purchase. SPORTZELT sponsored by Rob Ellerman Real Estate/Prime Lending Sports fan? Make sure to stop by the Sportzelt and catch up on all the big games. With big screen TVs, a bar and some tasty food, you won’t miss a minute of the action. BABY CONTEST sponsored by The Goddard School Grab your little ones and enter into the baby contest at 11 a.m. Saturday. Dress them up and let them show off to win prizes. Pre-register online for $5 per baby; day-of entries cost $10. CARNIVAL Tickets can be purchased at the ticket booth and cost $1 each, 40 for $35 or 80 for $60. Each ride takes 3-4 tickets. The carnival remains open from noon-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30 for wristband day–$24 per person, all you can ride!
