More than 100 Women Cruised in for the Leaders of the Pack Conference The Lee’s Summit and Grandview Chambers of Commerce partnered on March 27 to present the Leaders of the Pack Women’s Conference. This half-day event took place at Gail’s Harley-Davidson, 5900 East 150 Highway. Guests enjoyed a catered lunch, three key-note presentations, vendor showcase and a cocktail reception. “We are always looking for new ways to help our member businesses,” said Chrissy Symes, Lee’s Summit Chamber director of special events. “I had heard about a similar women’s event while attending a chamber conference, and thought it would be a great opportunity for our female members. It was also fun to partner with the Grandview Chamber which provided new connections and networking opportunities for attendees.” The conference speakers focused on leadership, work-life balance and entrepreneurship. Both chambers extend a special thank you to the following sponsors:

How to Maximize Your Return on Your Advertising Dollars When it comes to advertising spending, the economy is the elephant in the room. And while it’s easy to understand, given the economic climate, the body of evidence suggests that cutting advertising expenses is a short-term panacea that places in jeopardy what could take years of successful brand-image efforts to regain. Ultimately, cutting advertising temporarily risks more than it might save. But don’t just take my word for it. Here’s what John A Quelch, professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School, has to say: “Economic downturns reward the aggressive advertiser and penalize the timid one; a strong advertising effort enables a business to solidify its customer base, take business away from less aggressive competitors and position itself for future growth during recovery; and that maintaining of “share of mind” costs much less than rebuilding it later on.” The question is not whether or not to invest advertising dollars. The real question is, how can I maximize my return on investment (ROI) for my precious advertising dollars? Advertising ROI is the dollar amount of sales resulting from every dollar spent on advertising. In essence, we need to ensure that your dollars are directed toward the activities that will maximize sales. To that end, we have developed an affordable way for Lee’s Summit businesses to be part of the City’s overall brand advertising program, which currently is being rolled out via magazine, newspaper, television, radio, outdoor and Interactive media. Employing “economies of scale,” co-op partners will find most efficient and effective use of their advertising dollars. This way you can get your message out in front of the right audience, at the right time, at the right price. We will be conducting three co-op advertising information meetings to explain how local businesses can get involved: • April 17 at 9 a.m. • April 17 at 4 p.m. • April 18 at 8 a.m.

Yours Truly,

James McKenna - Community Brand Manager

Shop Lee’s Summit Contest Returns in May After last year’s wildly successful Shop Lee’s Summit contest, the Chamber has decided to bring it back again this May. The contest itself is quite simple, be a Lee’s Summit resident, shop five different Lee’s Summit, fill out and turn in an entry form and you are entered to win $1,000 cash. Weekly prizes will also be drawn from entries. No catches, no spamming, the goal is just to reward Lee’s Summit residents for keeping their sales tax dollars in our city. The contest will run May 1-31, 2013. Entry forms will soon be available at LSchamber.com and at several Lee’s Summit businesses. A form will also be included in the May Chamber Link.

shop • dine • play

Shop Lee’s Summit is a city-wide campaign led by the Lee’s Summit Chamber to educate and encourage our residents to purchase goods and services within Lee’s Summit to improve and enhance the quality of life for all. Just remember, it’s not about how much money you spend, it’s about where you spend it! Shop Lee’s Summit... Everyone wins! Last year’s winner Adrienne Hart was a mother of five with number six on the way. Hart was awarded her $1,000 check on Sept. 29 during the Lee’s Summit Chamber Oktoberfest.
