Chamber Leaders Honored as Women of Distinction

Throughout history, women have made a difference in the regional and local economies, but paving the way to the top and into leadership positions has taken more than determination and hard work. The Examiner recently hosted the inaugural Women of Distinction awards luncheon on March 24, honoring women who have exemplified tremendous leadership and contributed to the success of the community in Eastern Jackson County. Chair of the Board Vicky Cundiff, Weed Man, and Chamber President Nancy Bruns were honored at the event. The Chamber is so proud and lucky to have two amazing ladies leading the Chamber to higher levels each and every day. Under Bruns’ leadership, the Chamber has grown to 1,000 members, gained financial stability operating on a $1.2 million budget and received 5-star accreditation, the highest designation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Though Bruns is retiring at the end of June, we’re looking forward to the future and the exciting times ahead under Cundiff’s board leadership.

Get on the Map: ‘X’ Marks your Spot! The Lee’s Summit Street Map is still one of the most requested pieces from the Lee’s Summit Chamber by businesses, visitors, tourists, and new and current residents. Even with today’s technology, city maps are heavily used and are often the first form of advertising newcomers are exposed to. And because people refer to maps over and over again, your advertising gets repeated exposure, ensuring name recognition in the Lee’s Summit and tourism markets. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to be a key player on the Lee’s Summit city map that will be distributed for the next few years. Limited space available! 3,000 maps will be distributed through the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce and the City of Lee’s Summit. Contact Darla Hall, advertising manager, at 816.524.2424 or dhall@lschamber.com for additional information or to place an ad.

Member Events & News Freeland Photography and the Legal Center for New Families Kick Off 2016 Cutest Baby Contest Freeland Photography and The Legal Center for New Families, announced that they are again teaming up to present the 2016 “Oh, Baby Cutest Baby Contest,” in search of the Greater Kansas City metro area’s most adorable bundle of joy. The contest, open to legal residents of Missouri and Kansas, will be conducted primarily via Facebook. The winner will receive a free estate plan from The Legal Center for New Families and a free photography package from Freeland Photography. Additionally, Freeland and The Legal Center for New Families will donate $1 per entry for the first 1,000 entries to Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street. DLSMS plans to use the funds to kickstart a public art initiative downtown. “We are excited to partner with The Legal Center for New Families to offer this fun contest. We encourage parents to pull out their cameras to capture the sweet, silly, funny, and downright adorable moments that really show their babies’ personalities,” said Mike Freeland, owner, Freeland Photography. “We are happy that, by holding this contest, we have the opportunity to talk about the tremendous good Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street is doing in our community.” To participate in the contest, parents may upload one recent amateur photograph of their baby—age 18 months or younger—to Freeland Photography’s online entry form, freelandphotography.com/babycontest, by April 28. The submitted photographs will subsequently be uploaded to The Legal Center for New Family’s Facebook page for voting. Voting will continue through noon on May 2, when the top 10 babies with the most “likes” will be named semifinalists and move to the final round of the competition. All semifinalists will qualify for a free mini photo session (valued at $195) and 20 percent off estate planning from The Legal Center for New Families. The mini sessions, held at Freeland Photography’s Lee’s Summit studio, will take place between May 3rd and May 13th. Freeland will, in cooperation with each baby’s parents, select the best of the semifinalists’ photographs, and voting will commence to name the grand prize winner. Visit freelandphotography.com/babycontest for a complete list of rules, prizes, and the contest entry form.
