Paradise Park Celebrates Anniversary with Twenty Days of Giving For 20 years, families have created memories at Paradise Park, one of Kansas City’s premier family entertainment centers. To celebrate their special anniversary, the park decided to give back to the community through 20 Days of Giving. From June 11–July 5 (excluding weekends and holidays) anyone who brought in nonperishable food items received a $5 discount on a Max Pak pass. T:3.32 in
Also during this special celebration Paradise Park welcomed local non-profit groups to hold fundraising events at the
park. A portion of the proceeds raised that night was donated to the host non-profit. “We’ve always made it a priority to give back to the community that has supported Paradise Park for 20 years,” said Jon Ellis, president and CEO, Paradise Park. “20 Days of Giving is our way of saying thank you, and we are proud to provide a family-friendly venue that entertains and educates.” Paradise Park is the only facility in the Midwest that offers a children’s edutainment center and a family entertainment center at the same site.
Family entertainment was the main focus when Jon and Juli Ellis opened what was formerly known as Putter’s Paradise in 1992 with two 18-hole miniature golf courses. Today, Paradise Park has added many indoor and outdoor attractions to its family entertainment center including batting cages, a hayride trail and campfire area, go kart track, an expanded game room, rock climbing wall, bumper cars, cafe and Kansas City’s first foam factory.

City’s Civic Leadership Award Recipient: Susan Coffman The City of Lee’s Summit announced recently that Susan Coffman is the recipient of the City’s 2012 Civic Leadership Award, presented by the West Gate Region of the Missouri Municipal League. Mayor Randy Rhoads selected Coffman as the recipient of the award that she received on July 19 during the Civic Leadership Awards Banquet held at the Adams Pointe Conference Center, Blue Springs. Individuals were honored from 21 other cities as a part of the West Gate Region of MML, which consists of member municipalities in the metropolitan counties of Jackson, Clay, Platte, Ray and Cass. The following was read during the banquet about Coffman, who was described as a person with a passion for community service. “Susan has lived in Lee's Summit since 1978 and has consistently been interested in the well-being of the children and families in this community. After 36 years in the banking industry, she retired allowing her to become more involved in the community. That passion led her to Lee’s Summit CARES, where she currently serves as a program coordinator and chairperson of the Holly Festival Committee to benefit the DARE program. She is a founding board member of the People Helping People Network, which links volunteers with people in need. She is involved with the Lee’s Summit Ethics Committee; the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District, the Lee's Summit Chamber of Commerce; Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street Inc. and is secretary of the Lee’s Summit Noon Rotary Club. She is co-chairperson of the City’s Human Services Advisory Board and was a participant in the Visioning Team for the City’s recent community-wide strategic planning process, Lee's Summit 360°: Charting Tomorrow, and is serving on the group’s Implementation Committee. Susan Coffman is married to Bill Coffman, has two stepchildren, and four grandchildren.” For more information about the award and Ms. Coffman, contact the City’s Administration Department at (816) 969-1010.

Sales Tax Holiday August 3-5 Parents of school-aged children in Lee’s Summit take note and get ready to save some green. The Sales Tax Holiday is just around the corner. Beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 3, and running through midnight Sunday, August 5, school apparel, supplies and many electronics will not be subject to city and state sales tax. This is the sixth year that the City of Lee’s Summit will participate in the Sales Tax Holiday after the City Council overwhelmingly approved their participation in May of 2007, thereby waiving the city sales tax on those eligible back-to-school items. This means that items such as articles of clothing, supplies, computers, computer software and computer peripheral devices, and other electronic devices will receive the tax break.
