Chamber Board Member Named Among Top Kansas City Businesswomen The Kansas City Business Journal announced the area executives and entrepreneurs making up the 2015 class of Women Who Mean Business. The honorees span industries from tech to construction and include small business owners and corporate executives supervising large departments. Vicky Cundiff, owner of Weed Man, has been included on this list. Vicky is Chair-Elect on the Chamber Board and also serves on the Truly the Best selection committee, Golf Task Force, Oktoberfest and Health Care committees. She participated in the 2013 Dancing with the Chamber Stars and has volunteered for many events throughout the years. To be eligible for the honor, applicants must be engaged in for-profit business and be an entrepreneur, a top-ranking corporate woman in the Kansas City region, a partner leading a practice group or serve on an executive committee. A panel of judges that included previous Women Who Mean Business honorees selected this year’s class from more than 130 applicants. Judges considered applicants’ past accomplishments, plans to grow their companies and community involvement. The Business Journal will profile this year’s honorees in a special section in the August 28 weekly print edition and at a luncheon the same day at the Overland Park Convention Center.
Is Your Listing Correct? Make sure to check your information It’s time to make sure your membership listing is correct as the Chamber begins the process of compiling information for the 2016 Membership Directory. Please watch for your verification form to arrive via e-mail to your primary business representative in August. You are strongly encouraged to review the verification form, note any changes and return it to the Chamber office. As with any business listing, it is extremely important that your information is accurate. This is also a great time to review the list of categories to make sure your business is listed under the ones that best describe your business. Please contact the Chamber office with any questions about the Membership Directory. 220 SE MAIN STRE ET • LEE’ S SUM MIT, MISS OUR

A Peek at the 2015 Cocktails & Caddies Tournament The Chamber held its 6th annual Cocktails & Caddies Ladies Golf Tournament, sponsored by Lee’s Summit Medical Center, on July 10 at Teetering Rocks Golf Course. Ladies assembled teams of three and then bid on their fourth player, a male caddy, in a live auction. The afternoon was a warm one, but players cooled off at snack and beverage stops sponsored by Budget Blinds of Lee’s Summit, Liberty Mutual and T-Bones Deli and Meat Market. The ladies of Goe Pink with Plexus scored first place in this year’s tournament.

Member Events & News Lead Bank takes the point in switching to new ‘.bank’ Lead Bank will be one of the first banks with a presence in the Kansas City area to make the switch away from “.com” and onto a new “.bank” domain. On May 14, the new “.bank” domain became available for financial institutions. The domain includes several improved security features, including requiring verification that the entity holds a bank charter. That’s a feature that directly addresses the growing threat of cybercriminals setting up fake bank website pages to entice people into giving up personal information. “We believe we need to be responding to cyber threats with everything we can to make sure our experience with clients is as secure as we can make it,” said Josh Rowland, vice chairman of Lead Bank. “Only verified
banks can get access to the domain and it has security protections related to encryption, which all makes it more secure.” Thousands of banks across the nation have applied for the new domains, but virtually all are still in the verification process. So far, one of the only local banks approved to use the domain is BankLiberty. However, they are not currently using that domain. Lead Bank, based in Garden City, Mo., should be shortly behind. Rowland said he decided to become a pioneer for the new domain, because it aligned perfectly with a company review of all its digital processes, as it prepares to open its newest branch in the Crossroads Arts District this summer.
Lee’s Summit R-7 students will soon receive Google Chromebooks as part of Connect2Learn program Through the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District’s new Connect2Learn program, each student in the district will receive his/her own Google Chromebook this fall. Local businesses offering public Wi-Fi are likely to begin seeing these student devices in facilities by late August. This Chromebook rollout supports school district priorities and is an important step toward further developing engaged learners and meeting the district’s mission to prepare each student for success in life. Additional access to digital devices increases equity among all students and helps support the way students learn and teachers teach. Within this innovative learning environment, students can better engage in learning.

Through Connect2Learn, students will have access to this powerful learning tool both at home and at school, regardless of family income or ability to purchase the digital devices. As part of this one-to-one initiative, R-7 schools will continue to provide guidance and supervision to help students learn to appropriately and safely use technology tools. Instruction on digital citizenship and proper use of technology will continue to occur at each school and every grade level.
