Member recognition highlights annual gala Each year at the Chamber Annual Gala, recognition is given to Chamber members who donate several hours of their time and energy for the good of the organization. These members attend as many events as possible, are always available when needed and include the Chamber as a part of their daily lives.

Awards presented at the annual gala include Ambassador of the Year, Steve Gouldsmith* New Member of the Year and Volunteer of the Year.

Bob Glaser, Summit Bank of Kansas City, was selected as the Ambassador of the Year. In 2011, Bob recruited 23 new members; and since he began recruiting in 2007, he has brought in 130 new members. He doesn’t just recruit new members-he takes each new member under his wing and mentors them. Bob has attended the majority of events throughout the year, served as emcee at ribbon cuttings, served as chair of the Ambassador Committee and helped

with Operation Thank You and the VIP Reception. He truly exemplifies the meaning of the word ambassador. This is Bob’s final year to win this award, and from now on the award will be given in his honor.

Jon Garlow, Wells Fargo Advisors, was awarded the Steve Gouldsmith New Member of the Year Award. Jon has been very active on the Ambassador Committee since joining the chamber and has assisted in recruiting new members. He is also active with the Chamber’s Young Professionals, attending events as well as donating for their community service projects. Jon attends many of the Chamber functions and has made quite a splash in his first year with the organization.

mastermind behind the efforts for the Chamber’s very successful Dancing with the Chamber Stars event. She sponsored and helped coordinate the Kids Stage at Oktoberfest. In addition her business, Steppin’ Out – the Studio, won the 2011 Res in Motus award in the Vegrandis category.

Phyllis participated in both of the Chamber golf tournaments, legislative day in Jefferson City and volunteered on the Chamber’s service trip to Joplin this year. She is very passionate about the Chamber and attends as many events and activities as possible.

The Lifetime Membership Award was presented to Ken Stremming. Ken has been a member of the Chamber since 2002. He has actively participated in the Governmental Relations Committee and the Legislative Committee, serving as chair of the Legislative Committee in 2008. Ken has been a major supporter and a strategic contributor of the Chamber’s efforts to improve and expand the

Lee’s Summit Airport. He serves as a great resource for the Chamber on health care issues and in identifying and making contacts with speakers when we have held health forums in the past. Ken’s countless hours of service have not gone unnoticed and the Chamber is pleased to honor him with the lifetime membership award. *Two years ago the Chamber renamed the new member award to the Steve Gouldsmith New Member of the Year award. The new name honors former board member Steve Gouldsmith. Steve’s tragic passing in 2010 was an incredible loss to his family, his friends, the Chamber and the community. Steve received the new member award in 2004 and was everything that this award represents.

Bank of Lee’s Summit Selected to Chamber Hall of Fame In 2006, the Chamber established an annual Hall of Fame Award. The criteria for this award includes being a member of the Lee’s Summit Chamber for a minimum of 10 years, showing continuous active involvement through financial and volunteer support and that they are respected throughout the community.

Each recipient has had a significant positive impact and has consistently exemplified the philosophy, value and mission of the Chamber.

The inductee for 2011 is the Bank of Lee’s Summit. As one of the oldest businesses in Lee’s Summit, they are a great addition to the Hall of Fame.

Since new ownership in 2000, Bank of Lee’s Summit joined the Chamber and

has been a strong Chamber advocate.

Several of their staff have participated in various committees since that time.

They have been extremely active in the Education Committee.

Bank staff has served on the task force to interview and help select the Teacher of the Year as well as the recipients of the high school senior scholarships that the Chamber awards each year. They have been very gracious in sponsoring the breakfast for the Chamber’s annual train trip to Jefferson City. Several of their staff have graduated from the Chamber’s Leadership Lee’s Summit program and one has served as LLS Coordinator for the past thwo years. They have been a Chamber Silver Partner since the

inception of the program, providing sponsorship for many of our events.

The Chamber appreciates the strong partnership between our two organizations and are pleased to include them in the Hall of Fame.

Area Chamber Washington DC Fly-in The Lee's Summit Chamber is partnering with the Blue Springs, Grandview and South Kansas City chambers for a trip to Washington, DC, March 2728, 2012. We will meet with our elected officials and department officials to advocate for pro-business policies and address issues affecting small business. Please join this collaborative effort as we deliver our message to our Congressional delegation.

This will also be the perfect time to be at the capitol as the 100th Anniversary of the National Cherry Blossom Festival will just be getting underway.

Highlights of the trip: • Lunch and briefing from US Chamber and other department officials • Tour of the Capitol and dinner in Georgetown • Visits to offices of elected officials and their staff • 100th anniversary of the Cherry Blossom Festival Registration is $300 per person and will cover lunch on Tuesday, Congressional reception on Tuesday evening, and breakfast and lunch on Wednesday. Out-of-pocket expenses will be cost of airfare, hotel, ground transportation and other food and beverages. Airline and hotel reservations will be the responsibility of each individual. Lee’s Summit Medical Center Names New COO Lee’s Summit Medical Center Chief Executive Officer Jackie DeSouza has appointed Lee’s Summit resident Patrick Kueny as Chief Operating Officer of the hospital effective February 13.

“I’m so pleased Pat will be joining the

Lee’s Summit Medical Center family,” DeSouza said. “Pat’s knowledge of HCA’s operations in the Kansas City area and his roots in Lee’s Summit make him an excellent addition to the leadership team.”

Kueny has served for the past five years as vice president of Midwest Physicians, the employed physician group of the HCA Midwest Health System. During his tenure with Midwest Physicians, he led the organization through tremendous growth and expansion.

Prior to joining HCA, Pat earned a master’s degree in public health from Emory University and formerly spent two years with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and eight years with Emory University and Healthcare. He is originally from northern Iowa, and earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa.

He is married to Michele and they have two children, Sean and Clara.

They have lived in Lee’s Summit for five years.
