Lee’s Summit Airport Inducted into Chamber Hall of Fame

Assistant Airport Manager Joel Arrington & Board Chair Tyler Morehead

In 2006, the Chamber established the annual “Hall of Fame” Award. The criteria for this award includes being a member of the Lee’s Summit Chamber for a minimum of 10 years, showing continuous active involvement through financial and volunteer support and being respected throughout the community. Each recipient has had a significant positive impact and has consistently exemplified the philosophy, value and mission of the Chamber. The Chamber congratulates the Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport! The Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport has been a member of the Chamber since 1981. In addition to being a huge community asset, the airport has supported the Chamber in a number of ways. Airport Manager John Ohrazda is an active member and former chair of the Lee’s Summit Visitors Council, and can be found at Oktoberfest all-weekend long serving as tent manager on SE Main St., as well as on the Oktoberfest committee. The Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport also has been an avid supporter of Chamber publications and the Community Marketing Program. Ohrazda’s hard work has recently paid off with the addition of new hangars and extended runways, and it seems that more growth is on the horizon for the airport in the coming years.

Thank you to our sponsors!

Chamber Member Award Recipients Honored at 2018 Annual Gala Each year at the Chamber’s Annual Gala, recognition is given to Chamber members who have donated much time and energy for the greater good of the Chamber and the community. These members attend as many events as possible, are always available when needed and include the Chamber as a part of their lives on a frequent basis.

Lifetime Member Award

ROBY LITTLE Retired

Roby Little is the retired director of Lee’s Summit CARES (LSC), a local nonprofit serving Lee’s Summit youth. Under Little’s leadership, LSC proved to be a great partner of the Chamber by donating not only time and energy, but also by sponsoring events and playing a key role in a number of community initiatives. She served on the Chamber’s Visitors Council for years and also chaired the 2018 Gala Task Force alongside her pup, Pippin.

New Member of the Year

ALYSSA SHARP Mize Houser & Co.

Alyssa Sharp, a CPA with Mize Houser & Co., joined the Chamber and jumped right in to taking advantage of her membership. Sharp spends time attending Membership Committee meetings and working to retain members, as well as serving as a mentor to new members. She attends many Chamber events, including Chamber Young Professionals, monthly networking events and ribbon cuttings where she has also served as emcee.

Mentor of the Year His outgoing personality is part of what makes Jeffrey Williams, Heritage Companies, a great mentor. He’s always willing to take on new members and go the extra mile to make them feel welcome in the Chamber. Williams has been an active member for several years, participating in the Business Development Council, Health & Human Services Committee, Board of Directors JEFFREY WILLIAMS and last, but certainly not least, as a Heritage Companies caddy at Cocktails & Caddies.

Ambassador of the Year Julia Hampton recruited 7.5 new members in 2017, also gaining her a spot in the 2017 Chairman’s Club. She has been a member since 2002 with her accounting firm Julia E. Hampton, CPA which won the 2014 Business of the Year award in the five or less employees category. She participates on multiple Chamber committees, including the Ambassadors and Truly the Best Task JULIA HAMPTON Force. Hampton also is a member of the Julia Hampton, CPA Leadership Lee’s Summit Class of 2018.

Volunteer of the Year Vicky Cundiff, Weed Man CFO, is an extremely involved member who can be found at nearly every Chamber event, big or small. She serves on the Oktoberfest and Governmental Relations committees, Annual Gala & Golf Task Forces and also served on the Executive Committee for several years, including as Chair of the Board in 2016. More than that, she’s behind the scenes helping with the dirty work and heavy lifting at events, and with a smile on her face. She is a huge advocate of the Chamber, and our community as a whole. He passed the CPA exam in 2002, with the sixth highest score in the state of Missouri. In 2002, after serving as Director of Finance for a large national construction company, Allee decided to focus his professional practice on the area of small business taxation and individual financial advising. years of experience in helping clients save the maximum amount of tax legally possible while achieving their most important financial goals. Additionally, Allee has owned and operated a popular bar/restaurant for the past five years, which he recently sold to join Julia E. Hampton, CPA, PC full time. “Eric’s experience has given him a unique insight into the special issues our small business entrepreneur clients face every day,” Hampton said. The Raymore expansion will offer the same, full-service accounting options as her original location in downtown Lee’s Summit, where Hampton has been in business for 16 years. Allee will handle individual tax preparation, business bookkeeping, taxes and payroll, tax consulting and IRS issues. “We’ve been looking to expand for a year,” Hampton said. “With the growth and great schools in Raymore, we are thrilled to now be a part of this community.”

Missouri Innovation Campus selected for KC Business Journal’s Capstone Award The Missouri Innovation Campus was among 25 Kansas City area construction and real-estate projects to earn Capstone Awards from the Kansas City Business Journal. The Capstone Awards will be presented at a March 28 reception in Overland Park.

The facility is funded thanks to a 2015 no-tax-increase bond issue as well as a unique partnership with higher education. Under the plan, LS R-7 is paying for approximately 40 percent of the new school with UCM paying the remaining 60 percent. The R-7 School District is the sole owner of the school with UCM paying its portion through a lease agreement.

Winners were selected in nine categories, and the Missouri Innovation Campus was one of four metro-area projects honored in the community impact category. The Lee’s Summit R-7 facility was the only Lee’s Summit project to be honored with a 2018 Capstone Award.

Summit Technology Academy is a unique high-school program that prepares students for careers in areas such as engineering, computer science, health care, human services and digital media technology. The MIC program is a progressive collaboration between the LS R-7 School District, MCC-Longview and UCM.

The Missouri Innovation Campus houses the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District’s Summit Technology Academy and Missouri Innovation Campus programs, as well as graduate and undergraduate programs within the University of Central Missouri (UCM) Lee’s Summit facility.

Taste of Lee’s Summit Set for March 3 The Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation will host the 19th annual Taste of Lee’s Summit on March 3 to raise money in support of excellence in education in our community. This year’s theme is “Celebrating 25 Years of Giving,” a salute to the Foundation’s birthday. The event will begin at 6 p.m. at The Pavilion at John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit (adults 21 and over only). Advance tickets are required.
